About
Our passion for quality ingredients began from an early age whilst growing up on farms around South Africa. From Somerset West, Magaliesburg to eventually Baynesfield & Vryheid in Kwa Zulu Natal. We feel blessed to have experienced nature and its bounty all around our beautiful country. We took it all for granted as children, yet today it's our sole focus - sourcing locally and building strong relationships with our farmers to bring the best ingredients to our kitchen and your plate. We have both spent time globetrotting and working in restaurants in London, Scotland, France, Portugal & Italy, yet the Outeniqua Mountains, the wild beaches around George and the Little Karoo on our doorstep were far too enticing... And so we decided to begin our journey at 101. Our philosophy is to keep it Simple, Seasonal & Social! Hope to meet you soon! #Happychefs Jeremy & Ben

This has been a favourite lunch place of ours for some time, a perfect cross between suave and casual. The menu is not extensive but varied and interesting. Two craft beers from Cederberg brewery were on tap. We chose the risotto with bacon and the tandoori chicken curry with tamarind potatoes and parathas (a tasty alternative to rice). Both meals were superb, authentic, meticulously presented and full of flavour. The cherry on the cake was a personalised message on our takeaway box by our lovely waitron Marie! She was so bubbly and enthusiastic and really made our latest visit something special. This place is really worth a call!

An amazing evening at this incredible restaurant. A lovely ambience and service was fantastic, food seriously delicious, we had the seafood curry, oxtail ragu and Thai chicken curry that were all outstanding (Michelin star worthy) Portions were beyond generous, fantastic value for money. Desserts were also amazing. So worth the visit, we will definitely be back. One of my best meals ever.

We were looking for a place in George to grab dinner and decided to give 101 Meade a go - and boy, were we glad we did! The service is fantastic, the atmosphere is cosy but professional, the decor is beautiful, and the food is presented and executed with care and love. Order anything you feel like and wash it down with some of their house-made mint lemonade. We had an excellent seafood curry, packed with delicious, fresh mussels, prawns and calamari. It was served with trimmings of sambals, poppadoms and rice. The other dish we had was fillet, roasted bone marrow and rustic chips. Maree looked after us and was incredibly accommodating and friendly. She checked on us regularly and made sure we were happy. She even sorted out a takeaway lemonade for us! I highly recommend this place.

We four elderly gentlemen lunch every month at a different venue in and around George. Today we were at 101 Meade Street. As we love our wine we bring it ourselve and today that was the best part of our meal. Three of us had the paella and mine host the ribs. Good fare, but for me there was something missing!!. Perhaps I just need more calories, but I longed for the crispy bread and soft butter that we were used to in what we sometime refer to as" the good old days". Am I speakling out of turn? With the price of a good meal at a restaurant, a little"mop up"bread would go down well with me?

The menu is different and interesting and the food is well presented and good this is reflected in the prices . Compared with other Restaurants the wine is expensive and is not served at the correct temperature. The service needs a little improvement.

My fiance treated me to dinner at this fine and elegant establishment. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed very good service even though the restaurant was fully booked. Excellent choices on their menu and a nice touch with the chef popping around to ensure that all customers were enjoying their meals. Highly recommended.

Although it was a spur of the moment stop in George, and this was rather late we had no booking. The guesthouse owner suggested it. The manageress welcomed us and although the restaurant was booked up, she made a plan, we did not wait long, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant is rather large and can accommodate many. The food arrived after a comfortable waiting period, and it was absolutely perfect, the vegetables were cooked to perfection, the rest of the food was really good. Definitly worth it .

So Fancourt warned us that their dinners weren’t up to scratch. So we booked at 101”s where my wife and I had eaten before. We weren’t let down and returned twice thereafter (once for dinner and once for a light meal before flying). Food was good although we were cleverer the second time around. The portions are big and dessert glorious so have a starter or main course and then dessert. Menu is small and changes often. Chef suggested we pop in for a light lunch - so we did - got my wife’s order wrong and fixed it in 5 minutes. just so professional. And we bought another photograph from them. It’s like a must stop if you are in George!! And our waitress Aphiwe (sp) was really fun and professional!!

Moved to George and after lockdown the first restaurant to visit. It was a fantastic experience and the Sunday lunch the best in a long time. The attention to detail and the service was excellent. Went back for lunch and ordered Fish as mains, the portion was minute and very disappointing. On Saturday we were a group of five that went for breakfast and the food and the service was absolutely pathetic. They only had 1 glass of orange juice available, one omelet and the scone I ordered was as hard as a rock. There was no attention to detail. A great disappointment!

Had a fabulous dinner during our holiday. Service was very good - well trained staff and good wine list. Can recommend the roasted tomato and pepper soup, tofu potstickers, seafood and lamb curry. The only downside was that we sat at the back in the function room with very little ambiance compared to what the rest of the restaurant offers.

My husband took me out for dinner for my birthday. From the moment we entered we were received with a warm welcome by Managers on Duty Paula and Gershwin. Our very friendly waitron Mark looked very well after us. he could answer every question we had regarding menu items and even recommended a few things. Such efficient and superb service we received from this gentleman. the managers were always in sight and came to check on us. When we ordered the dessert they put a candle on my creme brulee how sweet was that. The chef on duty, Jonathan also came out and made his rounds checking on every table if all was in order with the food. This was my first time at 101 Meade and they will definitely see more of us. Well done to the team their service overall was impeccable.

Thanks to the 101 team for an excellent Sunday roast this past Sunday. The three course menu is well priced, the portion size good and meal very tasty. The restaurant was very busy which is always a good sign and testament to the good fare. All the best Chris and Alyson.

My husband took me to this restaurant for my birthday on this cold and rainy evening. The cosy but elegant atmosphere was very welcoming and I had the best steak I ever tasted in my entire life. The chefs Amber and Lee came to our table to thank me for the compliment, as our excellent and friendly waiter Renchia, told them what I said about the steak. This added a lovely touch to an already splendid evening and I will recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking excellent food, excellent service and a cosy but elegant atmosphere.

We arrived on holiday on the 23rd December and our Christmas Eve dinner was booked at 101 Meade. It was beyond fantastic.... I popped in again for lunch a week later and had the Bourbon glazed sirloin beef strips on griddled turmeric bread. We finished with a dessert from heaven. Again fantastic...Mark our server was attentive and pleasant. 101 is a must stop for any travellers to George. Simply superb food and way above the competition if you can call them that. ILALI (101's sister restaurant) in Wilderness has an awesome vibe and I can highly recommend the thin base pizzas. Decor is stylish but relaxed. Well done to all the staff and owners. May you grow from strength to strength..cant wait to see you all again. Hello to Gershwin too....

Our favourite restaurant in George! Fine dining without ridiculously small fine dining portions. Your experience starts with meeting Gavin the awesome car guard who really is a huge asset to 101 Meade. Maree was lovely and helpful to assist us with vegan options and her humour of explaining curry heats added to our evening. Definitely will be back
