Had two fantastic meals here whilst visiting George. The homemade Lasagne my husband had on our first visit was so good we booked again so I could have it.
My Tuna Steak with salsa and crushed potatoes was also superb.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area - you will get a warm welcome, great food and service

We found La Capannina on our last visit to George and liked it so much we went again (twice) on this visit. You can sit on the open window terrace, which can be closed off if it’s too windy or cold, or inside - your choice. The menu is wide and varied. One of us is a vegetarian (just no meat or fish) and we had no trouble finding plenty of dishes to suit. The pasta is magnificent. The staff were helpful and attentive. We will be going again in November on our next visit to George. Highly recommended.

We googled Italian restaurants in the area and decided to visit. We were staying at Oubaai Hotel.
This was the nicest meal we had in a week - will visit again when we go back to George.
Well done!!!

Made a reservation for dinner but when we got there they didn’t have my name in the list. Fortunately they had a table for us, but it was close to the entrance and definitely not what I expected, given that I booked early. Both food and service were very average. As they do not serve a bread basket for the table, we ordered a garlic focaccia and caprese salad to share for starters. Our mains were lasagna, cannelloni, spaghetti bolognese and ravioli. The focaccia was hard and dry (terrible), and the caprese salad, made with small cherry tomatoes, definitely not value for money. My lasagna was tasty and the small side salad that accompanied it excellent, but all other dishes well below par for a good Italian restaurant. Overall a fairly disappointing dining experience.

We had hIgh hopes for this restaurant when we called in during the day and booked a table as it seemed very friendly. However it was disappointing once we were there.
The food choices were comprehensive and the quality was very good. However the service was poor. We ordered a garlic bread to share as a starter and then a pasta dish each. From ordering we waited ages. Another couple came in 30 minutes after us but were served their food earlier than us. We were waiting nearly an hour for the garlic bread and we asked about it twice and both times the waiter said it was ‘just coming’. We couldn’t understand how it could take an hour to cook garlic bread. Eventually the waiter arrived with our food but not the starter but the pasta dishes. I said we hadn’t had the starter yet and then he admitted that he had forgotten to put the order through for the garlic bread!!!
There were no apologies from him but someone came out of the kitchen and did say sorry. Another table also had been on the receiving end of mistakes and they were given a free course by way of an apology. We were offered no compensation or any discount.
Food is good, but customer service needs a lot of improvement

Our family visited La Capanina before 12pm for a brunch, something hot as it was a bit cold and rainy outside. I asked for Cuppacino and was advised by the waitress that she cant make the beverage to good taste. I asked for normal coffee, upon tasting it was horrid. She offered to make a new cup, I said no thank you and they still made it anyway. Still tasted horrid. And paid R30 for it. The pizza ordered Don Toby a mushroom bacon olive and avo pizza, was filled with lumps of big bold sliced raw mushrooms bit of cheese and no bacon. There were bits of ham here and there, about 1 to 2 blocks on a slice. Same with the whole olives, Basically making it a raw vegan mushroom pizza. We really didnt enjoy any part of our meal and were dissapointed to walk away hungry. Please advise patrons that your pizza might be different than they expect, not all ingredients will be in equal parts, its more a mushroom pizza with a taste of the rest, and if one says no thank you dont go ahead and do it anyway and charge them.

Restaurant was very busy but staff were friendly and helpful, although the food took longer to arrive than we would have wished. Two of our dishes were good but two of us had the Ravioli Melanzane and thought the flavour bland, if not a bit tasteless. Nice atmospsher and an enjoyable evening and experience. Recommended.

We have eaten at La Capannina for the last 15 years, but our latest experience was extremely disappointing. The one main course was a pizza, for which we waited approx. 45 minutes. We were then told that the pizza orders catered for the take outs at a certain time in preference to the attendant patrons. No apology was forthcoming for the delay. This was wholly unacceptable. When the pizza finally came, the base was soggy, uncooked & wholly inedible. The other meal was no better than average, La Capannina has now been totally removed by us from the restaurants to eat at in George. In particular, better pizzas are available elsewhere.

We were made very welcome and well looked after. The service from Danial was very good and efficient. We both had different Pasta dishes and they were equally very tasty and ample. We have visited before and will continue due to the very good food and friendliness of the personnel.

A lovely cosy intimate or family-friendly restaurant that smells of Italy the moment you walk in.
With a vast wine list, and fabulous food choices from pastas to pizzas, seafood to house specialities (I can vouch for the lamb shank and eggplant parmigiana) anyone’s taste is catered for even if you’re not in the mood for the usual carb-heavy Italian menu.
The service is fast and friendly, and the portions are generous.
An unforgettable end to a forgettable 2021!!

My husband has always told me about "the restaurant with the GREAT pizzas in George". He hasn't been here for 15 years. Today we popped in for a quick visit. Still great. 🙂 The pizzas are immaculate and served by friendly staff. Really worth a visit.

Delicious, freshly prepared food - especially the gourmet Tomato Soup - thank you and compliments to the Chef Rikus.
Knowledgeable and pleasant staff who are very familiar with the menu and highly attentive to guests.
Without hesitation, the best place to eat in George - especially on a Monday night!

It is sad that a once excellent restaurant can degrade to a second hand cafe. The food was average to poor, the service good and only two tables were occupied.
I know that one should not eat in empty restaurants, but it was unimaginable to me that it could become so bad since our last visit that I did not listen to my eyes.
One of us is suffering today from diarrhoea from the steak he had.

It is not our style to respond to reviews as follows, we do believe that the customer is always right. However in this instance we take the right to defend our establishment from individuals who are unfair and take it upon themselves to attempt harming a business, possibly for their personal amusement.
We are baffled that you found our food average to poor and did not relay this to the waitress who asked you if everything was to your liking. Instead you chose to write the above damning review.
In conclusion La Capannina continues to be popular with local and visiting customers, our many current 5 star reviews speak for themselves. We encourage you to take note of your heading and conclusion.

From the moment we arrived throughout our hurried meal till going out the door we received friendly faces. Remarking on that we were told "we like to have customers" we certainly felt that.
We received a complimentary snack of spicey butternut soup - this was simply delicious.
The restaurant was clean and neat, as well as the restrooms!
We had a pizza, which was 100% delicious. This was not a commercial, fast food chain pizza.
We will certainly be back.

It's all in the name!
La Capannina literally means home.
Celebrating both my boys birthday every single staff member celebrated it with us tonight. It was the most amazing heartfelt experience they have ever had. Exceptional service from Steph and team who have gone above and beyond. We had a variety of dishes including the best pizza and pasta in the Garden Route prepared to perfection and Creme Brulé that melts in your mouth. Chef Rikus is truly a master of flavours and quality in taste and presentation. Coupled with service excellence you know coming to La Capannina you feel like everything is done with pleasure. The best waitresses and the friendliest with a passion for hospitality!
