The food and service has taken a very steep dive since I was last at Deacon Bistro. Our tea arrived luke warm, so we asked for some more tea that was hot. I ordered the Beetroot and Feta Salad. The lettuce was all chopped up,...and covered with very thin slivers of carrot , cucumber and some beetroot. It was all topped with a thick green herb dressing, which was revolting!! Pity it was not served separately!!! The plate was just plonked down in the middle of the table, and not served to me. On paying, the waitress asked if I wanted my change, and I said yes. Then she asked me what was wrong with her service, as she wanted to improve. When I told her that to begin with she had brought luke warm tea, she immediately said it wasn't her fault, as it was given to her like that!!!More

This was the most amazing experience! Everything from the beautiful gardens and tasty food to the exceptional service! I have been here numerous times and have been blown away each time. The staff are always very warm and welcoming. Our waitress last night was excellent...and offered quirky banter and really made our night special. Hats off to Rob the restauranteur, you have done and excellent job at turning an old building into work of art and your influence is highly noticeable.More

I've only ever been for breakfast, but it was really good - great vegetarian option available. The coffee is sublime and the service is really good.

What a lovely setting, great food (interesting menu - not the same food as everywhere else) and great ambiance. Service was also good. Highly recommended

A very nice restaurant, nice outdoor sitting, also inside is beautiful. Set in a nice old garden. The food is great and they have a good variety in wines (as everywhere in SA). Young friendly service. Absolutely worth a visit!

Awesome coffees, breakfasts, cakes and light meals in a beautiful garden setting with stunning mountain views. A ‘must visit’ in George.

Firstly, in December I tried to book a table for breakfast at the end of January and was told they were too busy to take my reservation. That I should contact them after Christmas. Not a good start. Having then contacted after Christmas I received...no reply and had to chase them for a booking. The finally replied apologising and offering a booked table for 3 people, although apparently they normally only take bookings for ten or more. It was my daughters last day in SA and she had a flight to catch at 14.00 so we booked a table with plenty of time to spare. We waited about 30 minutes to give our food order, nothing complicated, but with the Eggs Benedict to have no hollandaise. And so the wait began. Our waiter told us about half an hour later that the breakfasts were being dished up and would be with us in a couple of minutes, but 20 minutes later there was still no sign. Eventually they arrived, but with the eggs Benedict swimming in hollandaise. It took another 20 minutes thereafter for the replacement to arrive on an untoasted and flavourless muffin, and even then it was only because I'd had to go and find the manager and explain my daughter had a flight to catch, so understandably we were in a rush. Her meal was removed from the bill, but I have to say, it left such a bitter taste in the mouth, that her last experience of SA was of poor food, and even poorer service. Very disappointed!More

We passed The Deacon Bistro on Saturday and decided we should try it out. So today we were in the area again and we’re so glad we remembered. Had a great chicken wrap and beef burger. The Apple and orange freshly squeezed juice was delicious....So we’ll become regulars here when in George.More

We liked the layout of the restaurant inside, it’s very nice sitting out as well but today the weather was rubbish.we received a pleasant, warm welcome and were served by efficient helpful staff. We had a trio of scrambled eggs which was novel and very...good, the other two in the party had eggs Benedict which was also very good. It was a very good breakfast and would recommend giving it a tryMore
