We had a good evening here on the second attempt - it was fully booked on the first night so we booked for the following evening. It was evident on that second night that bookings are essential as we saw several people turned away. It was disappointing that the venue was not actually a French Bistro, which is what we expected, but a Tapas bar. That said, the variety of tapas was good and we thought it good value for money

Absolutely superb food and service... a lovely wine bar tucked down a street. The waiters and waitresses were friendly, funny, professional and just brilliant. The food was superb. We were recommended 4/5 different tapas dishes to share between us but we ended up with 6 because the mussels were out of this world as were the pulled pork fajitas. The food was just so tasty. Really recommend this restaurant if you are in Cape Town ;-)

We thoroughly enjoyed our tapas dinner at this wine bar and bistro. We asked our lovely waitress what the most popular tapas are and she suggested a couple. The fajita was fabulous and we both really enjoyed the risotto. My husband didn’t like the gnocchi as much as I did but he loved the French fries. We were full with sharing four tapa orders. The white wine - the local Chardonnay that the owner makes was outstanding. We bought a bottle to take with us on our cruise. The Pinot Noir was fine too but the Chardonnay was really great. This place is reasonably priced and the staff is very attentive. We may have to go there again since we liked it so much.

Had an amazing dinner here at the Bouchon wine bar. Stan was our server he provided us with wonderful recommendations the tapas were perfect sized and there was so many different options. Ambiance was also great with plenty of wine options. Would definitely recommend for a trendy dinner spot with different tapas options.

Food is amazing here, would definitely recommend this place. We went on valentines evening and so they were very busy however this didn’t affect the level of service we received or the food. They also had a great selection of wines. The service was brilliant, felt like they couldn’t do enough for you. Already want to go back!

We were there on a Monday night so the restaurant was quiet. But the service was warm and prompt, and the food was exquisite - we enjoyed a variety of tapas, each option delicious and beautifully presented. I’d highly recommend it.

Upon arrival we had already felt out of place. We were seated at a table right by the door on a very chilly 10 degree night in Cape Town along with a breeze. We asked to move and seemed like this request was just too much effort. We were moved to a slightly better location. Already not impressed with the service we enquired about the tapas special - It was not explained to us and we were just thrown into ordering. Food was great cannot fault that like it was so good I wanted to shed a tear haha! We just wish that the service level was up to par with the food and atmosphere. After a heavy bill of nearly R1000 we left unsatisfied and probably will not return.

I found the restaurant through reviews on this site and am so glad I did as we would never have found it ourselves. The bistro is dark and atmospheric and the atmosphere was buzzing on a busy Friday evening. The restaurant apparently only books a table once per evening so there was no rush to eat as long as food was ordered by 10pm. The menu has a wide range of tapas plates although I would say that the portions were larger than traditional tapas. The choice is large and it was difficult to narrow down our choices. Every dish was delicious and both the wine and food were very reasonable priced. Graham our waiter was friendly and helpful when we asked for his suggestions.

The wonderful venue and ambience was not equalled by delicious food. Firstly the must choose 3 dishes per person element is confusing. If 7 people want to sample the one dish, then the portion is simply too small for sharing. The 3 dish concept works well for two but not for large groups. The food is good, sometimes tasty but not amazing. The dish we most favored was the mushroom gnocci. The octopus dish came filled with potatoes and two tiny pieces of octopus. The waiters explanation was that they had a table that wanted endless portions of the octopus so they ran out!!!! Really? So we got potatoes. The pommes frites were wonderful, and the bbq ribs were good flavor but just a big bone with very minimal meat. It's also a wine bar but the wines ordered from the menu weren't in stock.

First point (to be fair) the food is very good. Everything we had was tasty and the wine selection was good. But: This was our final meal after 10 days in amazing Cape Town and I have to say it was a low point to end on. The standard of service everywhere else had been so high and here it was mediocre. The staff seemed pretty nonplussed about customer enjoyment and somewhat distracted overall. We were seated near the door and mentioned several times that it kept being left open (creating a draft on a rainy night) but staff did little to respond. We weren't the only table to feel this as I saw others ask to move. We also ordered two first dishes that came we toast (the terrine and the camembert) but when we asked for extra bread to finish the remainder of the dishes we were told that was impossible as a failed bread delivery meant supplies were scarce. It took complaining to the manager to get a few more slices. Overall, it was quite a disappointing end to an amazing holiday in Cape Town, where there are so many other restaurants going above and beyond.

Favourite new restaurant in Cape Town. The service is perfect, not intrusive but friendly, the atmosphere is perfect - no loud music and able to sit and have an audible conversation. The food was delicious especially the steak tartare. Can't wait to return!

My wife and I decided to celebrate our 9 year wedding anniversary at this special place! We had high expectations and truth be told we were not disappointing! All covid protocols followed to the tee. Warm welcoming and promptly taken to our table in a hidden away little romantic corner. We started with the Edamame Beans done in a light soya and garlic sauce which just got the taste buds started! The service and flow just seemed seamless. For mains we had the Slow Roast Lamb Jus with home made gnocchi & pecorino shavings , Steamed Boa with Sticky Beef & Asian green Salad , Baked Camembert with Honey glaze ( Left out the crispy bacon as me wife is a vegetarian) , Pomme Frites that is twice cooked and Garlic Ailoli . We ended the evening off with the dark chocolate brownie with a generous portion of homemade vanilla ice cream. A truly unforgettable evening and cant wait to return to try the new menu Chef Nic has in mind! Highly recommended!! Well Done Team Bouchan , keep it up!!

Food was excellent! We tried 9 different tapas items and all were delicious. I loved the ribs the most. The service was prompt and they served the items in 3’s so the food didn’t get cold. The atmosphere is quaint and by the time we left the restaurant was full. If your looking for something a bit different in Cape Town I’d recommend you stop in. The prices are also very affordable.

There were six of us on a group tour of South Africa and we decided to try this wine bar that serves tapas for dinner. We were pleasantly impressed by the treatment received, a reserved room in which we could taste two of their wines plus an infinite number of tapas for a more than modest price. They make the offer of three tapas at 295 rand, about 15 € for more than large portions. Recommended if you pass through there. We stayed at the hotel Taj nearby, with a walk of Max 10 minutes you can easily reach.

This place is a gem. A must if you are visiting Cape Town! We had the queen prawns and beef Keftedas, the sauces are to die for and they have a a few other superb tapas. The menu is A le carte and the wine selection is really fantastic and with a side of oysters is a absolute delight. We are definitely returning. Great ambience for couples and amazing service!
