This was our first visit. We found the entry stairs a bit steep for our older knees but the restaurant was worth the climb. We sat on the verandah in a pleasant breeze. The restaurant has plenty of tables both inside and out. The staff...are wonderful. We enjoyed their version of the Sth African staple: the Braai Board. The menu is reasonably broad, with a drinks menu to match.More

Racism, Interracial Couple 🇿🇦🇳🇱 What a disturbing/Disgusting behaviour of your French Greedy Door Mans. Apparently from Congo. My black wife based in SA with our children, have gone through the most, Why do we have to pay your door man for entry ? But not...the actual entrance fee ? We were charged R50 for entry plus 300 to a door man, some French door man says to my wife my sister you know moss. My wife was confused and asked what do you mean ? He started laughing and stopped her up until we paid the 300. But my wife kept asking why do we have to pay you ? but not the entrance fee ? Then the door man responded by saying, it’s the private party, but continues to say I can make a plan for you guys…. I then asked the people infront of us if they were part of the private party and they said NO and they knew nothing about it….But they were let in with no questions asked.., The door man saying to my wife oh nice have fun and enjoy yourself and kept on saying to me, my boss how are you? I’m standing there waiting but everything was confusing, as we are seeing every other couples/ peoples ( none black) going in with no questions or payments apart from the entrance fee to the Caucasian ladies charging, and most of the people went inside were Caucasian people. Will “RACISM ever end in South - Africa ?! My wife was furious as she recalls where is the Country coming from, the Segregation/ Oppression etc…. Disappointed.More

Right there we were pissed off! we left angry and upset, are there still RASIST PEOPLE on earth? my friend cried so bad about this whole situation, we will come back and involve social media for such discrimination! Your door man is incredibly rude. You dont work in hospitality with that kind of attitude especially when welcoming paying customers into your restaurant. Will definitely never return. I have never ever been spoken to like that by staff.

A very happy thank you to Michelle, the most wonderful manager, for making my beautiful sister’s Bachelorette such a ball! Village is Cape Town’s “go to” for a good night out! But I must say, Michelle made it extra special for us. The dancing is...great and the food is wow, but it’s the people that make you love it even more! Thank you, Michelle, for going out of your way, to make the night extra special! I choose Village every time!More

We had a cool evening at Village idiot. It started at the booking stage, when the lady booked to tables for me to be sure I would be satisfied with our table. When we arrived, I was impressed by the atmosphere of the place. Oldies...and vintage items are used to decorate the place. The leather couches and the soft lighting give a warm ambiance. We have been offered a free wine tasting and had the Thursday special which was quite a good deal. The meat was good, but we were a bit disappointed by the fish and chips. We had an excellent evening there...More

Decent club, but cost 100rand per person to bribe the bouncer to get in. Then got cornered after leaving the toilet 3 hours later by 1 member of staff who kept closing the door eveey time i tried to leave. Then was joined by 2...other members of staff, but managed to scramble out the small toilet area to the main area. Waited for them outside to be falsey accused of being with another male in toilet (after money). I was really confused as the bouncers accent was really hard to understand, but he was the same one we bribed to get quick entry. Verdict: decent tunes, beware of the staff. From a brit.More

A friend of my daughter recommended this Bar and we weren’t disappointed. Very lively friendly atmosphere. We went earlish on a Friday night for something to eat and got a table very easily but other tables were reserved so I’d recommend booking. We had a...starter & main each and a couple of cocktails and the bill was just over 550 rands (£30) so we found it amazing value for money. I would definitely recommend The Village IdiotMore

While we did not get to have a meal at the venue, we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, the ambience and the "vibe" of The Village Idiot. Would love to go back and this time around, have one of the meals everyone is raving about.

I agree with Sue. It is casual, but at night you might want to ditch the beachwear.
