This was recommended by our guest house. It is tricky to find if you are looking for a restaurant as it is inside a shop/ boudoir/ gallery. It serves authentic Ethiopian cuisine on tables spaced between African art and decor and you eat it with your hands using a sponge looking bread. The waiter was very helpful helping us to choose- My choice was quite limited due to my onion allergy. The food for my wife and son came on a platter similar to a thali we had in India with this weird looking bread that looked like a sponge. They tell me the food as lovely but thought my chicken with spinach was the nicest. It was an interesting experience with different spices that I have not come across in a eccentric setting.

We love the environment since the moment we went in. The owner was super nice to show us the place and crafts around (it’s like a museum ) and then he offered us help to try different Ethiopian food (it was our first time to try it). They Have plenty options for vegetarian people as well and all the food was nicely served and really tasty. If you want to try something different, it’s the place to visit in Cape Town.

It was first Thursday in the city bowl exploring the art scene with friends and ended the evening, and our memorable trip to South Africa at the exotic and extrordinary Madam Taitou. It was our first time eating Ethiopian cuisine and couldn't have been a better introduction, hosted by Solomon Yigsaw, who also took time to show us the venue, packed wih African crafts, including several amazing Raffia cloths. We were a table of six and shared an amazing mixed platter of several meat and vegetable stews on a base of the famous injera bread, that we all shared in the middle of the table.

My husband and I came here for dinner and it did not disappoint. It was our first time eating Ethiopian food so we were a little hesitate, but the food was delicious. We were seated upstairs in the birds nest, it was an experience we won’t ever forget. We ordered a platter for two, which had lamb, beef and chicken with veggies. The unique thing about Ethiopian food is you eat with your hands but the injera (like a light bread similar to roti) helps you scoop the food making it easy to pick up and eat. The service was excellent, I highly recommend this restaurant, it was delicious and definitely a unique experience!

This is an amazing Ethiopian cuisine restaurant on a happening street in CapeTown Long Street. We were pleasantly surprised by the aesthetically stunning interiors of the place, with plants, books, handcrafted artefacts and the wonderful smiling staff who accommodated us even though we arrived without a booking. The food was delicious, especially the shredded Chicken Mota and Lamb Tibs. We dined on our first night here and then had to repeat the experience again so we repeated our last night here as well . Great value for money. Highly recommend this experience to anyone who visits Cape Town .

Ethiopian cuisine is one of my favorite in the world. I'm a vegetarian and Ethiopians do amazing things with vegetables and lentils. I was excited to visit this place based on its reputation but have to wonder how many people who come have had Ethiopian before. I ordered a veggie sampler and found that most of the dishes were underwhelming. These are standard Ethiopian dishes like Shiro that I've had all over the world. While the food was not bad, it was certainly not on the same level as some of the best that I've had. That said, I would still send people there for the ambience and the experience. It's like walking into a museum with art and artefacts from floor to ceiling. There are also semi-private eating nooks built up, down, and around the restaurant. Some of them you reach via a small ladder or a staircase. It truly is something to see and for those who have never tried Ethiopian, it will be a real adventure. My meal was very inexpensive and was served quickly.

I had lunch with my wife and 7-year-old daughter here. This was a few minutes' walk from the Holiday Inn Express hotel we were staying at. We had lamb tibs and another meat dish, misto. It was a fantastic filling meal, and it did not take long to serve. Along with two iced teas and Ethiopian coffee, the meal only cost R383 or around EUR 20. Service was friendly and efficient. The interior is lavishly decorated and makes dining here all the more worth it. The restaurant was not busy around 12:30 p.m.

Authentic place in Capetown city centre with unique atmosphere. The very cosy and colourful place, where you don't want to leave. Attentive and friendly staff will tell you the composition of dishes and how to eat them :) Definitely one of the impressions of the city and the region as a whole. I recommend it for a visit!

What a place!!! In the middle of a very difficult city as Cape Town you will find a small relaxing place which gives many different feelings. The location has definitely its own soul. Is difficult to understand at first where you are but it’s an explanation of emotions. The food is extraordinary, we had the vegetarian and vegan sample of all different dishes. Everything was really perfect, service included. The price was perfect! We spent for two people with beers, huge main dishes and coffee not more then 500/600 zar. Wish to go back once.

We had a great experience here sampling the vegetarian menu. It's expected to eat with your hands but cutlery is available 😋 we loved the food and flavours. Nice ambience and friendly staff, with good service, and a good selection of wine and spirits. Would 100% recommend this place to sample Ethiopian cuisine especially if vegetarian. This was one of our highlights when on honeymoon!

Do yourself a favor and visit this place. The atmosphere is amazing, the dining experience is incredible, the food is packed with flavor! We went on a Cape Town food tour and were recommended to check this place out by our guide. Our expectations were high and it did not disappoint! We especially loved the Lamb Tibs with Spinach and Couscous, the Kitfo and the Veggie Sampler!

This is the type of restaurant that you either love or you don’t. My partner absolutely loved it, the decor and ambience, it’s authentic look and feel. I know it’s me, but when food is delivered to be eaten by hand I have to ask for plates and cutlery.. again, sorry it’s just me! My partner thought the food was amazing, I thought I’d was so-so. I’ve given a score of 4 because my partner loved it … everything about the experience .. she would go back again and again.

Visited the place for dinner. We were explained the menu in detail and we decided on Lamb Tibs, Mota Chicken and Misto. I appreciated the fact that they ask patrons to eat with their hands. The food was delicious and very homely. Would love to visit again.

This restaurant came recommended to us from our food tour guide. Our guide is a huge foodie and said this is one of his favorite places. The service was great, atmosphere unique, and food incredible. This was the first time our teenager has tried Ethiopian food and she loved it. Must eat while in Cape Town.

Not only the ambiance and decoration was a 10/10, but also loved the food and staff. It was our first time experiencing Ethiopian food, but it was delicious and staff was really helpful. Liked the fact that vegetation option could also be ordered vegan.
