I was pulled in by the artistic writing of their logo. What a pleasant surprise. We just required a small bite and split the beef sandwich she recommended. It was so good we left with a brownie and muffin for later. Shaved cured beef, crisp, fresh artisan bread, cheese, ginger, rocket (greens-arugula), tomato, onion, and a balsamic based sauce. Delicious. Seek her out. You won’t be disappointed.

We strive for fairness and objectivity here on TripAdvisor, but that may not be possible in this case. I have perhaps too much a sentimental attachment to this place, but here goes… What I’m comparing it to: cafés/coffee shops/brunch spots in major cities. If you’ve never been on Cape Town’s Long Street, it is a fairly long stretch of cafés, bars, shops and things in between lying between The Southern Sun Cullinan Hotel (where I stayed) and Table Mountain. Most bars and restaurants utilize their upper balconies as well, allowing the views and opportunities to take in the city in a way that Hemingway and Henry Miller would have appreciated. One of these such establishments is Loaves on Long… While I spent 10 days in this city, I unfortunately did not discover this place until Day 9, which was particularly annoying since it was geographically closer than any other place I spent time in during my stay. I came here during the daytime—perhaps just past 70 degrees Fahrenheit, no wind or rain and the most ideal of days. I walked in to chocolate cookies, brownies, muffins and extensive coffee/latte menu (there’s quite a coffee house scene in this city). It was only then I noticed an “upstairs” with an indoor seating area (hard wood floors) that allowed a lot of sunlight and an outer balcony. I sat outside… I sat outside for a while, looking for excuses to stay longer. A mocha, a brownie, a sandwich, etc. I wondered in a strange way I had bothered to eat lunch elsewhere during my days there. Even from the top of Table Mountain, no view surpassed this one in terms of being a window to how the city functioned. I wondered in a strange way I had bothered to eat lunch elsewhere during my days there. Was the food great? No, but it was pretty good, and that was enough given the setting. The following morning, I was scheduled to leave on a bus to take me to the airport at about 10am. I took a final walk and ended up here. I had the same server as the previous day—he was a little surprised since I had previously told him that yesterday was my final day, but I now told him I had time for one more visit. It was a weekday, and thus there was still somewhat of a rush hour traffic passing through Long Street. Everything was the same as the day before—nice weather, no wind or rain. My last time there was the same as my first time there, and perhaps it will be that way when I return there someday.

My boyfriend took me for breakfast for my birthday to the newly opened Loaves by Madame Baker in Salt River, as we had been wanting to try it for a while and it is a short walk from where we stay. It was lovely that they allowed dogs on the veranda, and my doggie could sit by my feet as we sat and sipped coffee and watched the bustle of the industrial and rapidly developing Salt Orchard pass by. We arrived at 8am and the plan was to have a light breakfast and coffee before work - but I was so disappointed to hear that they didn’t have croissants as they were not baked yet, and my second choice - muffins - were still in the oven! We ended up sharing a sandwich (which was yummy and satisfying but nothing phenomenal) and leaving a bit bummed that we did not get to try any other baked treats because we were too early.

Stopped for a late lunch when they were cooking over coals out the front. It was a great stop, great fresh bread and a nice cheap eat. Nice relaxing atmosphere

Very nice coffee and breakfast though should've asked how I liked my eggs; not everyone is a fan of sunny side up! There is a short term parking spot outside for you to catch your uber when relaying on WIFI like I was

Convenient central location for lunch. Delicious sandwiches nicely presented. Bresaola and aromatic chicken were both super. Tea also in good sized pots.

We had a great lunch here , salads and amazing sandwiches. They are a bakery and the bread is really delicious. I had wished we were self catering as I would have bought a few loaves! The bread is light and tasty. Our salads and sandwiches were superb. Nice people serving too.

We popped in here for breakfast after spotting the tempting menu a couple of days before. We both had an americano and the protein pancakes. The coffee was very good - smooth, flavorful and not sharp. The protein pancakes (freshly made), accompanied by blueberries and mascarpone cream were delicious and quite different from your standard pancake (I think they were made with desiccated coconut and ground almonds). The only negative I would say is there were perhaps a tad too sweet. The service was prompt and very friendly. Definitely recommend for a relaxed breakfast in Cape Town.

My favorite breakfast place on Longstreet for over two years now. Once I discovered this gem I have made many returns. Eggs are cooked to perfection, staff is friendly and genuine. Note that they recently changed the Upstairs layout. Upstairs is only opened for dinner, ground floor for breakfast and lunch.

We went for lunch yesterday and shared a charcuterie and cheese board - delicious meat, fabulous cheese and absolutely yummy bread! Beautifully and simply decorated with the ancient walls exposed, it's a little sanctuary from busy Long Street. What a treat.

Aside from the great location & distinctively casual, old world feel to the ‘home kitchen’, Loaves on Long offers a small but varied menu, home baked bread & wonderfully brewed coffee. We ate the eggs Benedict. The eggs were made perfectly to order. The Hollandaise sauce was outstanding, complemented by attentive service. Worth a visit if you’re looking for breakfast of casual, excellent quality. They also serve tapas in the evenings. Again a varied & interesting menu, which we didn’t try.

We went today in this beautiful small bakery on Long Street. We spent a look on the menu and have chosen the croissant with scrambled eggs, the roast chicken sandwich and the croques madame. Also 2 double Cappuccino. What should I say: BRILLIANT! The scrambled egg was very creamy in a fresh baked crossaint. So tasteful, so fresh, so delicious! The sandwich had a very special mayonnaise which was really great in combination of the fresh brown toast and the very tender chicken... It is a little bit hot and spicy..... really great! The croques with ham and cheese was delicious combined with the poached egg and covered with a special belchamel sauce... best. Cappuccino was also on a very high level. We had also the chance to speak with both owners and they are so smart and trustworthy. They are spending all their knowledge and heart to make this handmade products.... no loave is looking like another, everything is handmade. Go there to have a real tasteful experience!!!! A MUST TRY (see my pictures).

Loaves in Long it's a cute almost hidden spot in heart of Long Street. You can find this most amazing breads and sandwiches also at the Oranjezicht City Farm Market on Saturday mornings. The coffee shop is a small place with a great smell of fresh bread and smiles. The service is really good and expect fresh ingredients and mouth watering flavours. My recommendation will be for the Bresaola sandwich and the fresh croissant in the mornings with a big cup of coffee. I found out that at Feastfox app you can book a table a get discounts! Worth having a look

Small coffee shop on busy Long street Cape Town. I was attracted in by the beautiful smell of bread and the Telkom wifi hotspot. Unfortunately no Telkom Connect which is what I'm looking for but there is Wifi. It's a bit priceyand the menu unfortunately didn't have much sandwich options. Or I couldn't find them which was disappointing since the bread smelt awesome. I had a Cappuccino and their Protien pancakes. Cappuccino was super small for someone looking for a quick 10am caffeine injection and the Protein pancakes not that wow. Looked better on the menu. For R94 not worth it. Overall not for me or for anyone wanting to hold a quick meeting.
