I will say I struggled with this rating and wish half stars were an option. Our waiter was excellent, friendly and on top of everything and eventually the food was great too. My first complaint was my steak, which I asked for med rare, came cooked well, with just the slightest hint of pink. The waiter immediately took it back to have a fresh one made with no argument, but I have a tough time with a steak place not cooking to order the first time, esp since it wasn’t overly busy. But honestly what bothered me the most was the manager cane over to talk to me which is a nice gesture but instead of just saying we are really sorry and working to fix the problem he said he had spoken with the kitchen who told him my steak had just been “a little” overcooked, which fir the record it was more than a little overcooked, and made me feel like I was being chastised or that I was being over picky. When you are paying for a nice steak it should be cooked perfect. I was also a little surprised that when the bill cane there was no comp offered at all since I didn’t get my meal until my dining partner was almost done theirs, the appetizer or a 10% discount would have been completely adequate. That said tho I would go again if I ever make it back to Cape Town and I would recommend it.

A meal at this classy restaurant. The menu was extensive from steaks to fish to sea food. However as this was our first trip to South Africa the waiter recommended the game kebab. It had four types of meat from Wilderbeast, Impala, kudu and one other. It was cooked as recommended as medium with a peppered exterior and served with grilled onion, tomato. The vegetable was mash potato which was a good choice. The recommended cook type was medium. Yes I enjoyed it but for me it will be a one off experience. Although it did not have any wild taste and it was very tender, on hindsight I would have preferred the steak my wife ordered. I required a glass of red wine and the waiter, recommended a wine that would not break my wallet but would go with the game kebab. It was Bernard pino10 and when the bill arrived it cost R220 for a glass whereas my wife had glasses of Chardonnay at R70. With this I felt the waiter took advantage, which was not appreciated by me. It’s a pity as this will result in a no return. Oh I forgot about the starters and my wife chose the mussels which she enjoyed but did not rave about them and I chose the sticky pork spare ribs and these were out of his world. However I can still recommend this restaurant, but suggest you do not give your waiter a free hand for him to choose your glass of wine. The total bill and yes it still included a tip was R1500.

Visited here with colleagues one evening while on a business trip from the UK. It was highly recommended by a local so gave it a go. Didn't book a table so sat at bar with a very knowledgeable bartender. We chose out wines and he offered alternatives at a similar price, and we went for the alternatives. Very nice wine. Only waited maybe 20 mins for a table to be available. I ordered baked camembert starter which was nice but a very small portion. Main was the game kebab, cooked medium as recommended by the waiter. Never had any of these meats so waiter explained which of the 4 meats on my skewer was which. All four had a similar taste...very beef-like. One was very tender, but the other three were pretty tough to chew. One thing that does annoy me is waiters clearing away the plates before everyone in a party has finished eating. We had a very experienced waiter do this. And within 5 seconds of me putting the last piece of very chewy meat in my mouth my plate was whipped away. It took me a couple more minutes to finish chewing. Luckily I didn't need to spit it out. Really it isnt difficult to just leave the plates out a little longer is it even if the place is busy? We decided to order deserts and I ordered the sorbet. And here is another issue. When the waiter brought our food he stank of cigarette smoke. He had obviously just had a cigarette break. Again, if a waiter has to do this can they attempt to get rid of the smell please. Not great being handed sorbet and smelling cigarette breath. Three scoops of sorbet...vanilla mango and red berry I think. Very nice but very sweet. Ibwas expecting it to be of a pallate cleanser but it wasn't at all. Didn't manage to finish it. All in all it was the most expensive meal of my week in Cape Town, and it was ok but there was so much that should have been better.

Ordered the sirloin, disgusting, came cold, i asked for bread as apetizer, nothing came. The meat was cold very bad, worst service ever, you have to pay for the side fries, and sauces. Plus helping blind at the end without asking Really the location is nice, like all the restos around, i don’t know why it has so many reviews (that’s why i came) If your money bothers you and wanna feel disappointed and bad treated come here For me, i will never come back again

After a fantastically enjoyable dining experience at Belthazar I met the owner, Ian Halfon. As a business owner myself I am always interested in the philosophies, values and inspirations of managers/ owners of restaurants and hotels that I am particularly impressed with. If you are a customer or potential customer of this restaurant, believe me, you are in the centre of this man’s focus that he drives throughout the whole business. I have rarely seen all members of staff so motivated to provide an amazing dining experience. Food, service, ambience, location…….top marks all round. The wine list is as extensive as you would find in a Michelin Star restaurant but at a much lower average pricing point.

I was in Cape Town for the Barmy Army cricket Tour in Jan 2020, After a week of good cheep food a group of about 10 of had a recommendation to try BELTHAZAR. As a busy restaurant and we had not made a reservation we were restricted to inside although the outside in a hot country would have been preferred but inside was air conditioned and was a very good setting. The staff clearly had a purposes to provide good value for money and to give excellent customer service. I had the cheese starter and the 350gm fillet steak. Now as a meat eater who eats very little vegetables, I have eaten a fair amount of steaks in my life, I can tell you of story's of ordering a rare and getting a medium and so on, I ordered a medium Rare and got just that, the taste was unbelievable and it just melted in my mouth. Some of the guys ordered the exotic dishes and not one person in our group was disappointed with the service or what we had been served. As per normal we just split the bill 10 ways, I got a starter an excellent main course and a bottle of wine for ÂŁ50. I could recommend Beltazar to anyone who visits Cape Town V&A.

It is a while since we last visited Belthazar but on this showing we will certainly be back next time we dine on the waterfront. We had booked an inside table as it was quite chilly when we visited in early January and we had a really cosy table at the back. Steaks are the thing here and there is no doubt these were amongst the best fillet steaks we have had in quite a while. We shared a blue cheese salad starter and finished with very good desserts of cheese cake and tiramisu. Yes, it is very busy but we were impressed with the service and our waiter had worked in the wine industry which gelled well with us. The wine list is amazing with a massive list of 600 and over 200 available by the glass which is pretty impressive. Prices for a wine are a little more expensive than some places but you pay for high class glassware and storage. Belthazar most definitely exceeded our expectations this time.

It was my husbands birthday and we booked at a restaurant, that was not at all what we wanted. Last minute we decided to go to the Waterfront and walked into Belthazar. We had the most amazing waitress, Timonique, who made our evening so much more spectacular than we anticipated. Thank you so much for your amazing conversation and friendly assistance. The fillet and ribeye steak was out of this world and the sommelier suggested the most perfect and complex Pinotage to accompany our meal. Will definitely reconmend this restaurant as an 11 out of 10 experience. Dont be fooled by the busy outside seating, the true gem lies beyond the sliding doors, where you will find the fine dining atmosphere of a true first class restaurant experience.

The place came recommended and they didn’t let us down. The menu had plenty to offer which made choosing a difficult one. The steak I choose was perfectly cooked and my wife’s seafood was equally cooked to perfection. The service was excellent and even though this was the dearest place we ate at, it was worth every penny.

Second visit and this time not so good. I don’t expect to pay for the mestballs and bread put on the table R10 is R10. My medium rare steak was rare all the way through, no sign of the waiter to ask if all was ok. Tonic poured into gin even though I has asked for it on the side, wine chosen by me and asked the waiter not to read it out so i could surprise my guests, yet he did tell everyone what id chosen! Steaks very tasty, cauli mash delicious but, attention to detail needs fine tuning.

First day in Cape town and determined to test the local cuisine. Found this place in the V&A waterfront and were tempted by the choices of local game. Seated in the outside area, were ably looked after by enthusiastic waiter Johann, we went for the Springbok steak (med rare) and the Clip, a fish dish. Both arrived quite quick (it is a Monday night after all) and both were very good. The springbok wasn't cheap, it was a little deer (boom, boom). The evening went very well and all staff were very attentive. Well worth a visit.

A local top chef friend of ours recommended this restaurant so the night before New Year we hit Belthazar Grill & Seafood. My son & I went for the specialist steaks. A standard size and a 350gr version. Both Medium rare and both cooked to perfection. With a minestrone soup and a few extras (sweet potato fries etc we had a wonderful evening a few glasses of King Belsh Pinotage. Fantastic. Great evening.

Great location on the waterfront in front of the shopping centre. Big outdoor terrace but we sat inside which was busy and very atmospheric for a Monday night. Claims to have the most wines by the glass in the world so fun to try a few! We made our own seafood platter with prawns calamari and baby king Lio. Tiger prawns were good value at £4 each but overall I’d say it’s a bit pricier then several CT restaurants. We had a good evening

We hadn't made reservations but still given a great table, sheltered from the wind with a view of the mountain. Just in time as the restaurant was full within 30 mins. Our starters, steak tartare and pork ribs beautifully tasty, the kinglip main chunky yet flaky and the lemon butter sauce just perfect. We had to have dessert - creme brulé and tiramisu - also just right (perhaps a tad too much). Accompanied with a great few glasses of red and white wine, we were extremely happy with our meal! Our waiter Johann made it all the more relaxing and enjoyable - he was spot on and nothing was too much trouble!

Nice restaurant on the waterfront. Good service and food, however having visited the Western Cape many times I found there wine prices very excessive compared to the cellar door and shop prices. I know they are in a tourist trap area but those 'marked up' prices are unjustifiable.
