Amazing service and food. Grant was our waiter. He was totally amazing. Can’t wait to go back again. All suggestions he made were delicious.

Ate here on our first night in Capetown after the concierge in our hotel recommended it and booked a table for us. We had a table in the “conservatory” part of the restaurant at the window with wonderful views of Table Mountain. There was a...huge choice of seafood on the menu and our waiter guided us through the specials on offer. My husband had scallops to start, & then he had kingklip (the local fish) as a main dish whilst I had kingklip with a crayfish Thermidor on the top. We then shared a passion fruit mousse for dessert. All the food was delicious. The choice of wines and cocktails was also very good. The service was excellent and we would recommend a visit if you like seafood.More
Lovely setting although requested a view and got seated in the middle of the room. I understand if restaurant was busy wasn’t mentioned. Service was too fast between meals. Especially if it’s a leisurely chat with two couples having a good time. Between the starter...and main meal was exceptionally fast . What really angered us was that we are hosting these international guests who offered to treat us to dinner & the wine list was not on the table on arrival . So when asked for menu, waiter said what do you feel like and we just then ordered at his suggestion the aperitif until main course , our host, then got the order off the wine list , unfortunately once the dessert had arrived, instead of asking for the menu again, our host asked for a glass of dessert wine and a suggestion was made! Later that night the host mentioned that he had paid an exorbitant amount per glass for the dessert wine ! As this had been a suggestion from our waiter , I was appalled at this rather awful awkwardness about a restaurant that had come highly recommended! Although the food was really amazing! It kind of makes one feel uneasy about returning or making any recommendations in future!More
We were looking forward to a nice evening. When we entered the manager of maitre de was on the phone. He hurriedly told the host where to seat us. It was on the patio. We never requested that nor were asked if that would be...suitable. We rejected that area and were seated at a small table in the dining room. We saw other parties of 2 come in and they were given 4 top tables in a more desirable location. Service was lackluster and they seemed so disinterested in us. In fact we never saw the same server twice. We had OK. food, chicken which was tasty but nothing special. We shared an appetizer, some sort of dumpling, and glasses, not a bottle of wine, maybe that was why they were not interested in us. We skipped dessert because they never came back to offer it. No one was friendly or thanked us for visiting. I would not recommend this restaurant, I see others have had a similar experience.More
We went twice as thisi s an excellent restaurant - food 5 star and service 5 star. Views of table mountain wonderful - have been before 4 years ago and the service and food have remained excellent
We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary with a meal at Baia, and it was an evening to remember! The food was amazing the view from our table was exceptional, and it was an evening to remember! Thank you to all the staff for making our...evening so special!More
Great quality lobster and duck hoisin salad. The staff are spectacular and work so hard for all their guests. We will return again, and again.
When we arrived we were pleased with our table which was at the window with a lovely view of the waterfront. Initially there were 10 diners in the room but within 30 minutes there were 80 as large trestle tables were filled by large groups....There were no soft furnishings to dampen the sound so it was incredibly noisy in the room and we could hardly hear each other speak. We shared the halloumi salad and followed it with the jacobs ladder and trio of game. The beef rib was on their menu as a speciality. I’m not sure why as it was overcooked, dry and chewy. Trio of game was well cooked. Service was very poor. Sparse and not very friendly. Wine by the glass options were the most expensive we experienced in South Africa. Baia is a massive restaurant. I would estimate 200 to 250 people were eating. Unfortunately it felt like mass catering without the prices to match.More
We were recommended by the concierge of our hotel, the Victoria and Alfred. Without a reservation we went on spec on a Sunday, we were welcomed and shown to our table immediately, Zak, our waiter was very attentive, he recommended wine to go with our...choice of main course and also some of his favourite puddings. Don't be put off by the size, it's a big restaurant by anyone's standards but well planned in separate rooms, only a 'fair trek' to the toilets shows you how big it is....the food was excellent and well worth the extra cost....More
Just average. We have had better food elsewhere in Cape Town. Not very creative. It you only want your fish to be pan fried or in lemon butter this is fine. The lobster was good but it just came with a scoop of plain white...rice. If you want more flavor this is not the place. We also had the least friendly waiter that we had in Cape TownMore
Lovely food. Their seafood platter and fish was very freah and extremely tasty as were the vegetables. They have a nice view at V&A harbour if you sit by the window. Good service from Alfred. Only downside is the unpleasant manager/maitre’d who was unecessary hostile...to us and insisted we provide an address before he allocated a table to us!More
Quality restaurant and they know it. Fish is a speciality as it is on the Victoria & Alfred waterfront but steak is also offered. A chilled sparkling wine from the locality is always a good way to start which was followed by steamed black mussels...cooked in Riesling white wine, flavoured with chervil, garlic and cream came in at 152 Rand and worth every cent. We ordered a bottle of Iona Monopole sauvignon blanc 2023 from the Elgin Highlands to accompany it. Both food and wine were 10/10. My main course was a kingklip (fish) fillet pan fried in ginger, garlic and coriander served with stewed vegetables at 289 Rand. 10/10. There is nothing not to like here, even the pickiest of diners would struggle to find complaint. I complimented the wine waiter (the sommelier was not on duty) and he agreed with my praise of the wine. I don't know who was on mussels duty that night but he was on his game. This is a restaurant to take your wife to if you have fallen out with her! Thoroughly recommended.More
We had a great meal at this restaurant. Had a table in a prime position, looking directly at Table mountain. Food was delicious, service superb and a vibrant atmosphere.
After we had ordered, the waitress asked if we would like five fresh prawns as an addition to the main course. I should have asked how much that would be and it is my fault that I did not. Anyway when the bill arrived, the...prawns cost more than our main dishes and also more than the bottle of wine. It was the most expensive item on the bill!! Partly my fault for not asking but they should be more transparent. I felt ripped off. Sad because otherwise a very nice meal. However it left a very sour taste!!More
Sitting outside is over rated. We were seated inside with no reservation and had a wonderful, quiet meal with an attentive waiter named Obedia. Marco (who seems to be in charge) also stopped by and helped create a memorable night. Food was beautifully presented and...delicious.More
