In a shady street this place tries to look funky and kind of succeeds bit the chairs are uncomfortable, there is no air on which is a problem on a hot CPT evening. The service was tepid as were the beers. The manager totally in...non-interactive and looked like she had just fallen off the sofa in her track suit. Spelling errors on the VERY limited menu and food so forgettable I cannot remember what we ate. ShameMore

I absolutely love eating at Beijing Opera on Rose Street. Quick service, tasty food and good location in the CBD.

Loved my bowl of delightfully layered flavours. Be prepared to wait a while but sit happily with wine and order soon after you sit.

I want to start by addressing some of the negative reviews on here. The main problem with this restaurant is the organization, and people having the wrong expectations. This isn't your typical walk in, be seated, browse a menu, order a starter, main, and dessert,...get the bill type of place. There are 2 10-person tables for sharing, and 4 window bar seats. No reservations, so show up early. Only order off the ever-changing chalkboard menu because that's what will come out hot and fresh after 5 minutes. If you order some weird noodle dish off the back page of the one menu in the restaurant, DON'T be mad when it comes out 40 minutes later kinda cold. I'm not saying that's wrong of you, but it's not the way the Opera works. This is a dimsum restaurant, so order one of everything and share with everyone. If you want a drink, or would like to order something else, simply get up and ask for it. If you wait for the single waitress/hostess/busgirl to come to you, you're gonna be waiting for a while. In summary, Beijing Opera is one of my favorite restaurants in Cape Town. It's gorgeous inside, it always has a great vibe, the dim sum is MINDBLOWING and the service is good if you know how to use it. Your first time might be awkward, but once you get the hang of it you'll be coming back again and again.More

Besides the service being SHOCKING I was defrauded by ZAR400 on the bill. They have a cell phone connected credit card facility that does not give a printout or reflects the amount. The waitress knowingly over charged me. When I got home and saw the...transaction confirmation on my cell phone I immediately went back to confront the waitress who, needless to say, pleaded an "honest" mistake. Not an owner in sight!More

Go expecting some of cape towns worst service but know that the food will keep you coming back for more. I go every couple of months. Our favorites are the pork Sui Mai and the char Sui noodle soup 😋😋😋 delish!!!

I wanted to try this restaurant for a long time so with a friend we decided to go there for dinner yesterday evening. First of all we were really shocked by the service. 3 ladies were behind the kitchen counter looking at us and not...even greeting us when we came in. The floor was really dirty, the staff's bags were piled on the kitchen counter at the back next to all the food... The water glasses were not really clean either and there were small flies in the water jugs. We had a chicken bao that was totally tasteless, same goes for the chicken potsticker (looked like boiled chicken). Only the pork/peanut steamed dumplings were ok. We also ended up, both of us with an upset tummy! We are definitely never going back there, what a shame...More

I had been wanting to visit this little gem for quite some time now. I had heard good things about the food. I liked the unpretentious atmosphere. It's a small room with shared seating. (Shared seating is not all that common in South Africa, the...concept is still very European to us.) This is not the type of restaurant I would recommend for leisurely dinners, more a quick meal, vibey chats, and move on to your next location. Now..onto the food. It was just OK. And that's unfortunate. And also our potstickers came with it not having been stuck to any pot, which in that case actually makes it more steamed dim sum than pot stickers. The tofu noodle soup was really quite bland and all it needed were perhaps some Chinese mushrooms to give it a flavour kick. I have to keep in mind that my husband and I have been together for 20yrs, and he is Chinese... So I'd like to think we know our stuff when it come to Chinese cuisine. To note, there were no Chinese/Asian chefs in the kitchen either, and I am not certain the staff knew what Chinese cuisine really was about. It could have been a great little restaurant, one of those spots where there is little focus on decor and all the focus goes into the flavour profiles of the food... Unfortunately it's a missed opportunity. The food was edible, but it lacked any passion.More
