The Maharajah has been our local indian restaurant for over 38 years and in that time we have seen many indian restaurants come and go but the Maharajah has always been the best and our favourite by far. From the minute you walk through the door the warm welcome received is wonderful and Jason, the Manager, and front of house does a superb job and always makes you feel special. This is a small family run restaurant where the food is excellent, full of flavour and always piping hot (including the plates). The portions are very generous which makes it excellent value for money. I can never eat a full portion so always ask for a 'doggy bag' and enjoy the remainder the next day. Over the years I have tried many of the different curries and they are all wonderful. I cannot recommend the Maharajah and Jason and his team highly enough and if you haven't tried this indian restaurant yet then I recommend you do soon!

I absolutely love the Maharajah Restaurant. The ambience is fantastic. The employees go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and to ensure you have a fabulous dining experience in their restaurant. Their hospitality and service is a rare find. The food is divine...will tantalize your taste buds. Overall..amazing food, service and atmosphere.

Great to visit this restaurant again over the festive season. Imaginative starter platter recommended by Jason to tantalise the taste buds followed by my usual lamb curry, off the bone medium to hot! My wife who usually favours the fish curry (kob if available) opted for the lamb biriani. Feeling full to capacity, we skipped the vermicelli with ice-cream dessert but can recommend it highly so please leave room. With our busy schedule and sometimes not getting down to the restaurant as often as we would like we order takeaways. The generous portions easily do for 2 meals. Well done Jason & Co (and the kitchen staff) for looking after us so well throughout 2019 and we wish you all a happy and prosperous 2020, and of course we look forward to our next curry visit! Our best regards too to Kevin & Sarah!

I booked this restaurant on a romantic date for my boyfriend and I and I can officially say it was the best butter chicken I ever had. The staff was super helpful and offered great recommendations for food and wine pairings. Overall an amazing food experience, you can’t go wrong here!

Having succumbed to lockdown restrictions we have often used the restaurant's excellent take-away service. We recently took our friends to the restaurant, discerning indian food lovers I might add. Needless to say they thoroughly enjoyed the Rogan Josh and the Spinach dish, an excellent meal was had by all and we all look forward to our next visit. Highly recommended!

I have been a regular for a very long time. Over the last year or so it has steadily declined. Unfortunately todays meal was the the last time I will eat there. Such a pity to see a once great restaurant deteriorate to such a a great extent . Shop bought paratha’s, microwaved naan breads, tasteless curries, dirty tablecloths, and filthy bathrooms. So so sad.

The food was delicious, that is that. We had several different dishes that we shared and every single on of them tasted great. A big bonus for me is that they are halal friendly!!!!!! So you can go with friends who drink or if you drink yourself yet eat halal food, this is a mission of mine and when it comes to finding specifically delicious Indian halal friendly spots, this one wins! Defiantly deserves more attention. The only downside I can think of was that the waiter was on our case, yes good service, but allow people to talk, especially if you are a family who don't see each other often. Overall please try the lamb korma and the traditional curries. . . Or anything. Signing off, another halal friendly gem!

Excellent food coupled with Greta service at this cozy restaurant close to our hotel off kloof street. The food was authentic and fresh and we even called the chef out to say thank you! Many Indian restaurants use frozen stuff and this was not one of them. I would recommend the butter chicken with nan for the kids, the adults should go for the chicken tikka masala and the Rogan gosh (lamb) which was yummy! Not too spicy so don’t worry and go for it…..

We were recommend to go to this restaurant when we arrived in Cape Town. We made 4 visits before leaving. Jason and the team are so accommodating we felt like we were regulars after 1 visit. They take time to explain all of the dishes to you in detail. The food is lovely and you can have it spiced exactly as you wish. If you do like your curry hot then you will not be disappointed. Portions are large by UK standards. Loved it!

Relaxed Indian resturant in Kloof street Cape Town. The service was excellent, friendly attentive waiters. Food delicious, ordered chicken kedai and Lanb Rogen Josh ( was not as good as chicken) . Butter Naan baked just right. Portions generous. Would definitely recommend

Havent been to Maharajah for months, although have been a customer since its Long Street days, wondered if the food was going to be as great as I remember. Was not dissapointed, my son had the Rogen Josh and I had lamb off the bone. Still the best Curry House in town. Warm welcome from Jason and excellent service. The roti's have changed though and prefered to previous ones, but still very tasty.

Best Indian food I've eaten since I returned from the Middle East a couple of years ago. Outstanding paneer, even better dal makhni, and an absolutely spectacular aloo jeera that was all depth and layers of flavour. Naan bread also superb. Our server predicted that we would be back. He was right.

This Indian Restaurant in Cape Town is a real gem. The menu is very extensive, every dish you would expect from a well established Indian restaurant The food is of exceptional quality and most dishes you can specify your preference of mild, medium or hot. Always a good sign that the meal is freshly cooked which it clearly is. The location is on the edge of the main tourist area but attractive and safe, easy to get to. Venue has just been updated, clean and pleasant but not super modern. Good selection of wines, overall very good value for money

As a person from Durban - I was disappointed in the DURBAN CHICKEN CURRY. / I doubt this meal was prepared traditionally, and to my consideration it was overpriced. There are so many amazing small Durban eateries that produce delicious Chicken Curry for +/-R85.00 - made from scratch with braised herbs / spics and protein, that simmer on a slow heat to succulency. //
