Very bad service. Staff are not trained. Arrived for Sunday lunch and waited 20 minutes for a waiter to assist me. Waited over an hour for my food to arrive while the tables that arrived after me were served first. Starter was never brought to...the table. The waiters seem to stay in the kitchen during service and are difficult to locate. There doesn’t appear to be a manager on site.More

My wife and I were living nearby and went in here after seeing a special breakfast being advertised on a board outside,This is a replica of an old railway carriage and looked wonderful. Our breakfast was really good and whilst there the waiter showed us a...Tuesday T bone special with chips and a drink they had on offer that night for the equivalent of£10 our money so we booked a table and had our dinner there as well.Unlike some reviewers our food was perfect and had no complaints. We loved the setting and was very charismatic to think of all the people who had travelled on that carriage.More

Very romantic place, the food was great, the service was amazing. One thing lacking was the music, that's a L for the ambience

The idea of sitting on a train and having a great halal meal, how ideal. Which it was, the steaks were great, if you don't like a sweet basting, you might not be in-love, I did scrape some of mine off. It was cooked well...and the sides were small yet tasty. It was not very full which was nice for my sister and I because we got to catch up. It is not halal friendly, meaning no alcohol, but the food is halal as is the kitchen and for a break away to a weird train on a main road, it was good. Actually very good. I did worry that my bag would be snatched from the window where we were sitting in the train as it is on a main road, but all went well. I would just be careful about that, if you are an anxiety bunny like me.More

The Atlantic Express cafe came under new ownership in April of 2022. Pay NO attention to negative older reviews! Those will not reflect your current experience. I ate at this cafe four times in the space of several days (two dinners and two breakfasts) in...October of 2022. I am impressed by the quality and presentation of the food, the cleanliness of the establishment, and the friendly helpfulness of the staff. I had a wonderful conversation with the new owner, Tasneem, when she stopped by my table. She explained that they had done a full refurbishing of the entire cafe, refinishing the historic original woodwork, and re-upholstering all of the booths in a rather luxurious velvet finish. The environment is kind of like being in the dining car of a luxury train. The bathrooms have also been re-done with all new fixtures, and are super clean. The tables all have a clean white cloth, with a protective plastic cover. I had two different dinner entrees (on different nights). One was the 200 g T-Bone steak, and the other was grilled Kingklip (white fish). Both came with cooked mixed vegetables, small salad, and small crispy onion rings. Everything was prepared and presented well, and was delicious. They have a nice selection of desserts, but my dinner meals left me no room for these treats. So I went back to have the waffles for breakfast on two different days (being American we tend to see waffles as breakfast food rather than dessert anyhow). I had scrambled eggs with the waffle one of the days. Everything was just as I ordered, and delicious. I may go back separately for a slice of one of their signature cheesecakes. The prices at the Atlantic Express are affordable and represent good value, and the wait staff is friendly and attentive. Lillian served me a couple of times, and was a delight to visit with. If you go for breakfast mid to late morning, or for early dinner, you will find the cafe to be uncrowded and a pleasant respite. I recommend dropping by the A/E if you are in the Sea Point area.More

I cannot believe when I found this on my plate. Told the waitress, was apologetic but owner could be found no where by establishment or several calls to him. Just disgusting I even vomited all food out when I saw this on my plate. I...hope this picture says it all.More

Very disappointed. Food was below average, Burgers are so bland, prawns was totally over cooked, more than half the menu wasn’t available and the drinks were all warm the waiter even offered to run over to the shop to get a cold one. Disgrace to...Cape Town food. Also the place smells and is in definite need of a commercial clean. Tables were sticky and sauce bottles and salt and pepper shakers were so dirty!More

Breakfast at Atlantic Express is very nice. Nice and cozy seats next to the main road. With nice windows and semi comfortable seating. An extension menu and big variety. The chicken and mushroom pancake is a must have. The eggs Benedict is also good. And...so is the scenes. I would recommend coming nice and early and park right next to the restaurant.More

We walked in and from the managers description of what we were to expect was completely different from what we were served. I was terrified to even taste the food because it looked dreadful. i did not complete my meals and will not visit this...place again. I was excited about the concept of dining on a train cart but thats about it. the prawn curry looked like it was someone elses dinner before it came to me................... Not impressedMore

This restaurant is set in an 100 year old train coach. It is clean and friendly. The inside is unique. The service is so friendly that 20% tip seems too little. The food is mainly Cape Malay and every dish has its distinctive taste. I...loved the evening. They don’t serve Alkohol. So at the end of the evening you are still fresh to go out for real. Thank you so much.More
