Approximately two years ago we started researching the "Best Burger", and after visiting colleagues in Chicago, New York and Las Vegas, together with our own Master Butcher at our Sister run Belthazar Restaurant and with our 27 year factory experience, the ultimate Gibson's Burger was created.

Was a lovely time. My friend was very indecisive but Imraan suggested the Amarula White chocolate and my friend absolutely loved it. Then the next time we came, we had the pleasure of being served by Imraan again and it was a good time overall once more. Friend was indecisive once more and he suggested the Choc-chip cookie dough and that was another stunner. Really looking forward to our 3rd visit.

We decided on tis place as I felt like a burger that night. We sat down and were amazed at the literally 100s of milkshakes they had on the menu. We, however, did not try any that night. They also had a wide variety of burgers to suit everybody! The burgers were succulent and cooked to perfection. The brioche bun worked so well with their perfectly cooked patty. They had their own secret sauce available on the table, and the addition of that made the burger even better.
Our waitress was friendly and attentive, delivering service with a smile.

Gibsons at the V&A Waterfront has to be one of our favorites travelled all over the world but this small venue in Cape Town has to do one of the best burgers ever. We visited them from Worcester on Thursday. An hours plus drive. But the service was excellent quick and friendly. The food, this time steaks which were on a R 99 special for 300g rump ($6) can you believe that! Prepared perfectly with crispy chips. This was followed by a milkshake. Many would say the milkshakes too their burgers or steak and may be right. In an hour we were seated, served our steak, our milkshake to share (size warning) and were of to the nearby safe parking. Home just after 7. The waterfront is a really pleasant experience. You can sit outside, at Gibsons, if weather allows. It’s right on the Cape Town waterfront and a delight.

We popped into to Gibsons with the boys for a (now traditional) Gibsons milkshake, but the experience was disappointing. The Covid-limited menu was just a touch too restricted I felt, with service being slow despite the restaurant only having 6 tables seated. Despite requesting prompt service as we were heading to a sunset cruise in 45 minutes, the 2 milkshakes took over 20 minutes to arrive and it was obvious that they had been waiting for at least 10 minutes at the pass as the milkshake glasses were overrun by molten and melting ice cream and milkshake. A literal mess. The last 2 experiences at Gibsons have been disappointing, which is a pity as the concept behind the menu is fantastic.

Imagine a plate of food that is all white. White plate, white fish with a drizzle of white lemon butter on the sad piece of fish and dry white basmati rice without a drizzle of anything to maybe make it palatable... That is what they serve for R195,00. Disapointing is not even describing it. Can't recommend this to anybody. Waitresses service was good.

Dear Caren,
We are most disappointed to read your review as we are located on the harbour and receive all our fish daily which is 100% fresh.
The fish that arrived fresh that day was Kabeljou which is a white fish.
The rice that we serve is a plain white basmati rice to which we do not add anything.
The sauce we serve with the Linefish is a classic lemon butter sauce which is traditionally off-white in colour.
Most restaurants on the waterfront charge on average R250 for a Linefish dish so R195 is most certainly below market average.
The manager Caronne spoke to you about your issues and offered to replace the rice with another starch or to bring you a sauce on the side which you declined??
She furthermore deducted the price of the rice off your bill.
We are once again sorry that you were disappointed but we did try everything to rectify the situation.

So disappointed! The waiter had to read through my menu to see what I wanted to order (both with the wine list and food orders). The prices are insane, I understand the appeal of the location but for that amount you'd assume you'd be getting a high quality meal as well, but unfortunately not at gibson's (although there are a few budget friendly restaurants with better quality food in the area).
Would definitely not recommend.
It actually embarrassing that this is one of the restraunts showcased at the waterfront, which is such a tourist attraction, and they're met with this horrible service, prices, and quality!

Wow!! We both had the sliders and shared an onion rose. The chips were unbelievably crispy, the 3 sliders were perfectly cooked, medium, and the onion rose with a sauce was to die for. Wish I had space for one of their funky milkshakes. Awesome food. This is a must visit for locals and visitors.

To be honest, can't really write a glowing review of our meal we had last night. As we vegan and found it really difficult to have anything proper vegan in the Waterfront, we came across Gibson's as they had a Falafel burger and Beyong Beef burger on their menu which was of course Vegan. We opted for the Beyond Beef Burger with cheese. The front of house Manager was very friendly and gave us good service. She was polite and very helpful, can't fault the service at all. I watched her work and she takes pride in what she does and this was an absolute pleasure to see. Didn't get her name, but she's an assett to your company. Our Vegan Beyond Burgers were a little disappointing I'm afraid. My first bite into my burger and my roll fell apart...this gave me the indication that my roll was not fresh. My Burger patty was overcooked and quite dry and the chips were a sorry state of affairs. I have had many Beyong Burgers elsewhere and most will toast the bun which makes it even more delicious, I was surprised that you guys don't even toast your buns? Perhaps even use a Vegan Brioche bun to make it extra special? There was nothing special about our burgers, I can purchase my own patties and make this at home and still save quite a bit of money, but I'm on my holiday and I'm prepared to spend my money where the food is excellent and in order for me to return again you need to create an amazing vegan burger to make me want to return as its very limited out there for us.

We stumbled upon this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised with our dinner. Our daughters each ordered a speciality milkshake (they had over 100 different kinds!) and we all had steak or rib dinners. For the 4 of us to eat steaks and ribs our bill was less then $60 American dollars and was worth every bit of it! Our service was excellent as well!

Food overpriced and very average. Not 1 single table was properly socially distanced So we opted to eat inside as everyone was eating outside. Food tasted ok, but then there are many ok restaurants. Heard the owner on the radio and he was really talking it up so we thought we would give it a go. It really didn’t live up to its claims and it’s adherence to COVID protocols were suspect.

We went to Gibson's for our year end meal. I have a team of young women and Steve handled their many questions and indecisiveness with ease (take my word, the menu is massive!) Everyone at the table thoroughly enjoyed their orders (including one of our ladies who was excited to see their vegetarian selection). Between the burgers and the milkshakes, I can't tell which was better.
The girls were especially taken aback with the blooming onions.
We managed to walk away with a respectle bill, so it's always appreciated to find good quality food and service at an affordable price.

The huge selection of burgers and shakes on the menu can be a bit overwhelming. After half an hour of still not being able to make up our minds on what to choose, our waiter (Imraan) came to the rescue. His friendliness and willingness to guide us through the options were awesome... and we were all thrilled with our choices. A nice night out and worth the experience.

Had the most horrible first and last experience at Gibson’s, I will never forget the disgusting food! I ordered the chicken wing basket. However, I was not prepared for what I was served, there were feathers all over the wings, most of them were covered by the basting sauce which at first were not visible up until I scraped the basting off with my finger which revealed the feathers, feathers were also clearly visible on the tips of the wings. The second issue was the fact that I had to point out that they only served 7 wings instead of the12 wings that was listed on the menu. The waiter brought another plate with 5 wings however I was not prepared to eat the wings since they were covered in feathers.
I requested that the plate of wings be returned to the kitchen. She advised that the Manager must be called.
The manager came to our table asking us “what seems to be the problem” of which I listed the “problems” mentioned above. He did not take any responsibility, instead he provided me with a list of reasons and excuses such as the fact that they were low on chicken wing stock and that it was the last batch of wings and that they were understaffed, he however did not once apologise or take responsibility. I responded by saying that a restaurant like theirs who charges “top buck” for their food is in the first place not supposed to allow such low-quality / disgusting food to leave its kitchen even if they had only one staff member left or if they served the very last chicken wing, this should not happen! I asked him whether he would have been happy if he had been served with such a disgusting plate of wings, I received his reply as “do you want to order something else”. Based on the manner the situation was handled and the fact that no responsibility was taken we decided to pay for our drinks and to go elsewhere.
Sorry Gibson’s but you won’t see us again!
PS: the waiter was very kind, and I cannot fault her service!

Dear jakok2016. We are so sorry and dissapointed to hear about your experience. As per the literally 100's of Tripadvisor reports we pride ourself in being the very very best. Our prices compared to any other burger joint are competitive and we DO NOT buy in mince from any butchery like most if not all of our competitors, but rather mince our own quality meat using no fillers, additives and preservatives.
We are the official Guiness book of World records recipient for the Biggest selection of Commercially produced shakes in the world and are very passionate.. We love what we do. Food standards and food safety are paramiunt to us. With regards to feathers on your chicken wings we buy from HACCP hygenic factories only with the highest international standards and we have never had a complaint of this nature . Ever. In fact second to burgers and ribs we are famous for our wings. Please can u send us a copy of the bill with your contact details so we can re invite you over again even so we did not charge you for the food you were not satisfied with. Visited Gibsons a few years back and thoroughly enjoyed it so decided to book a last minute function with them. Service was quick and efficient, food arrived piping hot, at the same time and each meal looked delicious. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They’ve also got some great daily specials available which we will definitely be back to take advantage of

Gibsons certainly has the right ambience and makes very good burgers. I did not particularly like the ribs but the burgers were tasty.
The reason I have not given this a higher star rating is that for the price, the burgers were really small
