A few of us went to Sotano in Mouille Point, about 2.5kms/1.5miles from Cape Town city center. The espetada was rare as ordered and really good as was the salad one of the party had as a main. However that being said, the paella although it tasted really good, there was a decided lack of prawns and chorizo. The dish came with 4 small prawns as standard and even though we ordered additional prawns we were still disappointed. I would have no problem if decent sized prawns and more chorizo was served, and I would have no problem with the additional cost. Please do something about this, otherwise we had a great meal.

Over our first drink we ordered patats bravas to share. The portion was a good size for the three of us. We then ordered the Greek calamari, shown on the menu as suitable for two people, the squid tentacles and Ebi tempura prawns. The Greek calamari, which was supposed to contain tentacles (?) but none were evident, was such a small portion, even for one person. An absolute disappointment and at R120 would be considered a ripoff. The tentacles were tasty, but again portion size was questionable. Unless Ebi means "let's pretend it's tempura but we'll do it crumbed and deep-fried", then this was not normal tempura. It was very tasty, but if you advertise tempura serve tempura. The service was not to the restaurant's normal high standard, from placing the food order it took a long time for the food to get to the table, and the prawns were delivered sometime after the calamari/squid. It was not busy, perhaps five other tables.

Spanish paella tasted frozen and the flavours did not work well especially the sausages that was in it. Flatbreads and vibe is always amazing. Dishes are expensive unless you het the for half price with the Entertainer app.

What a nice place, after a long walk on the promenade we came here for a beautiful dinner. Staff was really nice and food was outstanding. What a great place can’t wait to come visit again when back in Cape Town

We booked a New Years brunch at R380 per person, on the basis that there would be a live saxophonist playing from 12 noon, as was advertised. We left there at 1 and there was still no saxophonist playing, so we could have had a much better brunch elsewhere at half the price. The food was average at best and very expensive, the service was average and when we tried to complain, the manager was defensive. So we will not go back there.

After reading so many good reviews regarding this restaurant, a friend and I decided to go visit. I don’t regret the choice which was made by my friend, we got welcomed with a friendly hostess, a waiter who was very attentive and could give very good recommendations on what to have. My friend opted for sushi and I would definitely recommend the Seafood Linguini! You won’t go wrong. On a hot summers day you are able to sit outside and they have half price oysters!

What utterly substandard service from this restaurant. Not only did the food take forever but the waiting staff are utterly unconscious of their environment. They need TRAINING and need to be “present “ in the space. While I was there there were 2 complaints. The manager seemed to be hiding and was never visible. My table was swooped on when I asked for the bill and disinfected and I hadn’t even paid or finished my drink. Food was good though. Pity about the lack of soft akills.

We’ve been to Sotano before and had great mussels and chips. We ordered fish and chips today and it tasted terrible. Not sure if they’re trying to cut corners because Covid has left everyone in hospitality in the lurch but the fish wasn’t fresh. It had that metallic just going off taste. Was also quite hard and rubbery. Chip oil also tasted like it needed a change. Service was great (it always is). And they have an amazing sea facing view so will also be busy. Just go have drinks there and don’t eat the frozen hake!

I stayed at the adjoining Splendida Hotel for 6 nights while working in Cape Town. Consequently I ate breakfast at the Sotano each day and had an evening meal three times. I found the breakfasts very good - my choice was the granola, yogurt, fruit and honey, pleasingly served in a wide open bowl for you to mix according to taste. Coffee could be better TBH, but that may be down to personal taste as its made on a professional machine and nicely presented, the flavour was lacking for me. I enjoyed evening meals that weren't too heavy and a bit different - excellent kale salad, I saw a delicious salmon stir fry, halloumi. Good staff. Nice wine. Like the open frontage and street entertainers who come along. There was live music one night too. One thing - not sure you can expect every one to have a smart phone or other device to down load the menu. Just let us have a menu ...

We have eaten here previously. Was disappointed this time. The Patata Bravas was really oily and we ended up leaving a good part of it. The starter portion of the lamb Kofta was good. The Halloumi was also not good. Not a great experience

Says dog friendly but NOT AT ALL. We went for a chilled lunch with our small dog. We were asked 3 times to move because of "fussy no dog friendly clients" It really killed our lunch having 3 different waiters ask us to move because of our small, well behaved dog, because some customer was being fussy. We never got to meet said fussy customer or got given a reason for the movements. DO NOT PROMOTE YOURSELF as pet friendly if "customers" can influence your service to others. Other people had much more vocal dogs around us. Not sure if they got the same treatment but what a horrible (and not cheap) lunch experience.

A great menu with a lot of choice. My husband, family and friends all ate there on several occasions as we were staying at the hotel attached to Sotano. Breakfast has healthy options and they do accommodate for specific requests. For supper we tried the seafood linguini and it was amazing, the lamb burger was also delicious, as was the mussels and fries. Service is very friendly. Samba often served us and always had a smile. The music in the evening is pleasant but some of our friends found it loud. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, and being on the waterfront gives it a nice feel for drinks with friends or a dinner out.

We booked! Imagine our surprise when told that you can only book inside and they will still put you wherever ….. where the kitchen staff pass you the whole time etc….. and they are very nonchalant about it…… sort of a take it or leave it attitude. The food had better be fantastic , but I was so disgusted with the table we got and the prevalence of flies, with no attempt from staff to do ANYTHING about it, not even those little flyshoo devices, I just could not bring myself to stay. I did NOT want to eat in their establishment. I moved next door to the Butchers grill.

Restaurant attached to the Splendida hotel, known thanks to the breakfast in agreement with the structure. Amazing and abundant breakfasts, beautiful dishes. We took advantage and also stopped for lunch and dinner. The tapas are truly original and tasty as is their fish dish of the day. Prices absolutely in line with the offer. Very kind and attentive staff, both the internal room on two floors and the external dehor (which close if necessary at the customer's request) are very nice. The only flaw was the strong smell in the room, but I think it was due to the fact that the generators were unable to withstand the energy demand of the extractor hoods, given the huge energy problems that the country faces every day. I would still go back for the quality of the food offered and the nice and informal environment.

We were staying at the hotel and experienced the. breakfast menu every morning which was fabulous. Beautifully presented and great choices. No complaints although my husband who loves his coffee wasn’t keen on the coffee served here. We also ate dinner here one night and tried the sushi as well as some other dishes. Again very good! We would definitely recommend it.
