The menu contains everyone's favorites - samp & beans (veg), pap & chakalaka (veg), pork belly, seared prawns, confit duck leg (vegetarian substitute available), seared beef loin, and pan-fried linefish (vegetarian substitute is available) - cooked to a rare perfection by the young and gifted...chef Ayanda Matomela (shortly off to Switzerland to learn more). There is a surprise in everyone of these dishes - like apple chilli coriander salsa, fondant cauliflower, mushroom custard, okra pesto and krispy kale. This food is truly in a league of its own - 'gastro-fab' (if you must). For those who prefer a liquid diet, then proceed straight to the Signature Cocktails - like espresso martini, peach and black tea, plum and cucumber, stone fruit and fennel. Of course, there are the classic cocktails too - but why be same old. The signature is a cut above the rest. Pay attention cocktail connoisseurs! I will most definitely be visiting this restaurant again and again. The proprietor, I gather, wants to create a space that is inclusive of all ideas, all cultures and all people. There are a handful of establishments in Cape Town that have been successful in creating such a space but not with gastro-fab food and signature cocktails. Cafe Noir is an ambitious, bold, and courageous step in this direction. It deserves all our support. Well done!More
