We flew to Cape Town from Los Angeles (28 hour Flight) for 2 things: First, our 17 day Virgin Voyages cruise & Second, to dine at The PotLuck Club.
We first heard of the PotLuck Club while browsing on YouTube for places to eat while we were in Cape Town. A lot of videos on the food presentation and praises on the dishes. I believed I watched 10 videos and even saw a clip on the food channel of how The PotLuck Club was one of the Top 100 restaurants, in the World. Yes, World!!
My husband and I love food. We are International foodies, we are not expert food connoisseurs (A.K.A. Food Snobs), we just cherish food that was made from the heart. And I swear we book our travels just to sample culinary experiences from around the world.
We arrived with the warmest welcome from the hostess. Another gentleman sat us at the Food Counter, and we were served by Tony. It was nice watching the staff prepare the dishes and each one was vital for the end product of the tapas.
We ordered 7 dishes, which was recommended by Tony, and all were Delicious. I couldn't tell you my favorite, because all were unique.
We ordered:
Taco 2.0 (most popular)
Seared Tuna
Jerusalem Artichoke
Ash Roasted Beet Root
Penang Pork Belly
Wagyu (Special)
African Cheeses
The entire bill came out to less than $109 USD, which I could have gladly paid R6000 ( $315 USD) for this exceptional meal.
Outstanding Service, excellent Presentation and Tony answered a lot of our questions.
We took a taxi from our hotel directly there. It is located inside a private lot with a few more restaurants: Salon, Test Kitchen, etc. If you drive there directly, you will receive a voucher for free parking. Very secured and on site security.
We definitely recommend The PotLuck Club - Cape Town

Excellent and highly recommended for fine dining. They serve tapas and cocktails. Everything is unique and definitely not basic. There were four of us, and we had 14 tapas in total, and we were more than full. The emphasis here is on sharing things so that everyone can try them. The only drawback: you have to order all the tapas right at the start and they are served very quickly one after the other. In other words, you feel a bit stressed while eating. In this respect, I understand some of the criticisms regarding mass processing. Nevertheless, the service was very attentive, fast and friendly. We paid the equivalent of €160 for the 14 tapas, water, cocktails and beer.

Yes, it's loud and crowded and expensive - but it's sensational and we would come back immediately! The service from Shawn was super accommodating and you can rely on his recommendations. The food is extremely good, the Beetroot Tartare and Belly Pork are fantastic and especially the desserts are hard to top. Peanut Bomb is a must!

We went to the Pot Luck Club because multiple friends had recommended us to do so. Two days ago we went to the Salon, a sister restaurant, and the dining experience was incredible, which is in sharp contrast with our experience at the Pot Luck Club. The concept is different, we get that. However, the service was just beneath any standard. To start it off, it is not personal at all. After the first dish, which happened to be made with coriander, we mentioned that my girlfriend does not like coriander. We told the waiter afterwards and he confirmed it would be left out of any other dishes. After the first dish, we still received 2 out of 5 dishes with coriander, however they told us there wasn’t any in it. In addition, they almost forgot one of the dishes. Furthermore, I ordered a double espresso to go with my dessert and they forgot to bring it. I had to remind the waiter once again they forgot something. They also work in shifts which we could really notice. The waiter ended up bringing us the bill on his own incentive while we were still finishing the dessert and our drinks. I usually don’t write any reviews, but I had to make an exception because the overall experience was just not worth it. One or two ‘mistakes’ and we would not let it influence our dining experience at all. This was not what we expected at all. The mandatory 13% gratuity should be saved for places that have excellent service. Sadly the Pot Luck Club is not one of those places.

The menu is without a doubt outstanding. The culinary creativity and the special cooking skills are what initially sparked the hype around the restaurant. What has unfortunately developed over time is mass processing on an assembly line. If you have your table at 6 p.m., the service staff start to get nervous by 7.45 p.m. The neighboring tables, which are now free, are loudly re-laid or pushed together. The place settings intended for the successors at your own table are demonstratively placed on the windowsill. OK, understandable, especially in the fine dining area you have to ensure a high turnover in order to cover the costs. But it is unpleasant. In addition, the noise level in the room is no worse than in the waiting room of a main train station. Everyone shouts during the conversation to drown out the noise - a vicious circle. All in all, a really great menu, but it is largely neutralized by the general conditions.

We booked the pot luck club in Cape Town a month before our holiday without really realising how special it is or how hard it usually is to get a booking. It was an absolute treat. We picked 7 dishes to share and we struggled to finish it all. That and a bottle of decent wine inc servuce came to less than £80. Excellent value for Uk travellers. The food was top notch and super creative. Highlights probably the fish sliders - imagine gourmet version of filet-o-fish!! And beef plus chick pea, goats cheese and Parmesan chips. Stunning food. A must visit.

Very dissapointing.
The restaurant is indeed a hype but that’s it.
The food was not special and the place looks worn out.
Sticky menu’s and counter, the menu’s full of staines😩.
The windows look like they have not been washed n months.
It is like a big factory.
The dishes are served in a very fast pace, not yet ready with a dish or alraedy asked for the next one.
Waiter was totally disinterested and let us know after just opened a second botlle of wine at 19.45 that we must leave at 20.15.
We wanted to order 2 meat dishes with the bottle of red wine but he made very clear that we had to move.
2 dishes out of 6 were good, the rest was mwah.
We asked for the bill and left.
Like the test kitchen, I am afraid the potlck club has a short life to go as well.
There are lots of better restaurants in cape town!!

A family favourite and for a good reason! The food is always incredible at the Pot Luck Club and we always make sure to visit when we’re back home.
On this occasion(maybe the 3rd visit), the start of the meal was slightly tainted for me. The Pot Luck Club isn’t a place we visit every week, it’s a place we visit after we’ve saved enough money (this is all relevant). To start with, our server seemed more interested in the big table of lads and there numerous bottles of French wine than he was us. We’re young but a customer is a customer and it felt as though we didn’t require the same attention for the staff.
We ordered and tried some of the wine and soon a bread board with olives came out. I couldn’t remember this as a part of the service but it had been 2 years since I’d last visited. I commented on how large the olives were and ate one. Shortly after, a waiter came over and just took the plate from us(wrong table), no word no explanation. I feel for the poor women who got my eaten olive pit.
Some of the waiters wouldn’t make eye contact when bringing the food and explaining the dish which felt as if we were actually a bit of a hassle for them. I always make sure to show gratification and have a chat with the waiters but it didn’t seem that my smile and compliments cut the mustard this time.
This is a real shame because I will always recommend the Pot Luck Club to family or friends visiting the country. The overall experience was tainted and distracted from the food. Wwe just unlucky (as unlucky as the woman who ordered olives) and did we just come on an off day?

We were in Cape Town on my birthday so my wife booked the Pot Luck Club for a meal together. We had been in Cape Town for a couple of days already and had eaten some great food at really low prices so this place needed to deliver to standout!
We arrived by Uber (about 10 mins from the V&A area) and were greeted by someone in the car park directing us to the loft to the restaurant on the 6th floor. You really get the atmosphere straight away as you walk in with an open kitchen and every table being full.
The menu isn’t long and consists of so called sharing plates (though most of them are really too small to share!). You write what dishes you want on a form and then sit back and the food arrives in an orderly fashion.
Whilst we did have our favourites it’s going to be easier to give a more general description of the food rather than details of them all (7 dishes for the 2 of us). The quality of the cooking, the creativity of presenting the dishes and the combination of flavours was excellent. However most (if not all) of the dishes we chose had spicy elements to them so my wife who doesn’t like spicy food had to sort through the dishes to see which bits she could eat which made her experience rather poor.
The portion sizes are too small for sharing plates in my opinion (except the fish sliders) so I’m not sure the sharing concept worked for us.
Service was excellent throughout the meal and they were kind enough to give us a glass of sparkling rose each for my birthday.
This was by far the most expensive meal we’ve had in South Africa (though still good value vs Europe/US) so we left a little on the disappointed side despite many positives outlined above

The service, food, and atmosphere were impeccable. Our server was extremely attentive and provided great recommendations since we are visiting from out of town. This was our favorite dinner in all of Cape Town. The cocktails were excellent and unique.

Excellent meal. Tapas style - we enjoyed 9 different tapas amongst 3 people. Honestly- everything on the menu looked good.
Our choices were executed perfectly by the kitchen.
Our server suggested that we make our choices ( 3 per person recommended) and that he and the kitchen would sort out the order from lighter to heavier and to match the wines we selected. He nailed the pairings.
In addition our waiter was prepared in advance to point out the dishes that did not match up with diet restrictions. He also was prepared to offer dishes the kitchen would alter to meet dietary restrictions. Excellent service and much appreciated
In addition the wine list is well curated.
Great meal
Highest recommendation

Fantastic fusion style tapas food - think family style sharing plates. Ordered about 6 dishes between two was more than generous.
Incredible flavours- we loved every dish , particularly the waiters recommendation of the Linefish - thank you Adam! Beef fillet was absolutely delicious - highly recommend for the sauce alone.
Exceptional service from Adam and all the other staff too

A “must do” for any foodie visiting Cape Town, this place never fails to impress, amaze and surprise in equal measure. It’s equally good for lunch or dinner, but to get the best out of a memorable room in a funky location, try to go at the weekend for the full Old Biscuit Mill experience. Booking essential.
The menu has plenty of variety for all tastes & preferences and dish after amazing dish just keep on coming. Staff and service are top notch. By no means the cheapest by SA standards but still excellent value - you’d pay two or three times more for the equivalent experience elsewhere in the world. World class!

Perfect! Relaxed atmosphere and simply great food if you're a bit adventurous. You order 3-4 small dishes per person (similar to tapas), which are served one after the other. That was one of the best things we had in SAF. Highly recommended! Make a reservation in advance!
