A little off the tourist trail this is a smallish bistro style restaurant. Serving truly flavoursome Mexican style food which is about flavour rather than chillies. Standout dish and performance was Kyle preparing guacamole from individual ingredients at are out table. The food was all about raw Ingredients, no minced meat insight. Only caution, beware how much you order. In any event brilliant value for money.

Great dining experience.

We went as a large group for a birthday party and so were forced into a set menu. I was concerned that we were going to be short changed by this, but I couldn't be more wrong. The food was delicious and mostly generous. We were given small tortilla chips with one of the courses, but not enough for the table and were billed for a second plate of 5. Various courses came through and it was all for the table, which is a fun way to enjoy food. The staff were on point and excellent, as was every course they gave us. I can't wait to go back there for another meal.

We took our friends who are visiting from Barcelona to experience Hacienda and it was a delight. I lived in San Diego for 30 years and traveled extensively through Mexico so am very familiar with the cuisine of Baja California. What a wonderful find!! Hacienda serves authentic and delicious Mexican cuisine in a very comfortable, relaxing and elegant setting! The service was top notch!! I highly the Cerdito Ahumado, Frijol Negro and the Baja Langosta Tacos!!

A South African Version of Mexican

I’m a foodie who eats everything and has eaten all over the world. My meal at Hacienda was disappointing. The service was a 5, but the food was a 2. Let me start off by saying that their salsa verde was delicious. The chips to go with them were another story though. There is no chip in all of California and Mexico like these. This should tell you everything you need to know about dining at Hacienda. If you are expecting authentic Mexican, California Mexican, or even Tex-Mex, then you will be sorely disappointed. If you have never had authentic Mexican in an if the above locations in your life, then maybe you will be a fan. I moved to SA after living over 20 years in California and have traveled numerous times to Mexico. This is a South African fantasy of Mexican. The two dishes I ordered were way over sauced (South African’s love sauce and creamy things - notice their standard sushi), often resulting in overly heavy, over powered, and mushy food. Also, the combo of ingredients in what I ordered were just plain strange. I had remarked on this to the waiter and learned upon eating it that it was indeed strange. My waiter was great and when the restaurant heard I didn’t love my food, they comped me and took the rest of it back to the chef for examination. I appreciated this kind and generous gesture.

This restaurant's existence angers me

Who "deconstructs" a quesadilla, doesn't melt the queso, and carpet bombs the whole thing with mustard seed? The beef adobo tacos are inedible because they add a heap of raw watermelon on top of the slop then overcharge you and say you don't understand cuisine. The food is disgusting. The ownership is pretentious. They poorly imitated Baja cuisine with less than zero understanding of basic flavour profiles. Does the chef have taste buds?

Great food and a great experience

My wife and I went to Hacienda to celebrate our wedding anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We received a warm welcome on arrival from the hostess, Arielle, and excellent service throughout the evening from our waitron, Grace. Elegantly prepared cocktails - palomas - were followed by a succession of delicious and beautifully presented tapas dishes. We shared them all, which gave us an opportunity to taste more dishes than if we had simply ordered individually. The food really was outstanding. It is not an inexpensive restaurant but we felt it was well priced to value. If you are looking for excellent upmarket Mexican, look no further than Hacienda Coastal.

Bit Quirky But Good

Big team of us rocked up here on a weekday evening not really knowing what to expect. The menu is fundamentally tapas style with some quirky dishes but all were well presented and delicious. Perhaps the highlight was the guacamole made fresh at the table ....different. Waitress was excellent with info on the various dishes nevertheless lots of surprises when they actually turned up! Many of our team went back for another go a week later so that tells you something. Would recommend

Tasty Mexican on Bree with a Twist

We had a great time at this trendy restaurant in Bree Street. The bar is very attractive and the restaurant is well done. The music was way too loud, but the manager immediately turned it down when we asked if she could. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Our waitress, Summer, was superb. The marguerites were amazing and food in general was delicious but far too much. The tasting menu can easily be shared. Certainly worth a visit. I recommend the tuna tacos.

Incredible experience - highly recommend the taster set menu!

My cousin and I went to Hacienda for dinner. We had the set menu which consisted of 7 courses. The food was extremely good, tasty and they even accommodated us both not eating spicy food (I know, it’s a Mexican restaurant, but we can’t eat chili’s). They left out the chili’s where they could and told us which sauces were spicy where it wasn’t possible to adjust the dish. That was greatly appreciated. The food looked absolutely beautiful too and tasted out of this world. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and experience. The venue is beautiful, seating inside and outside and the staff were extremely friendly. The cocktails were incredible too.

Nice Mexican

Very nice place. Ordered glass of pinotage (repeated) and lamb chops. Meat was simply amazing, one of the best lambs ever. They made a compliment of some fancy nachos with 3 sauces. At the end - they brought huge cotton candies to all the table who were finishing meals. Very nice atmosphere and attentive service too.

Style ,great food

This is unlike any other Mexican restaurant been to anywhere . Is part of a small group of 4 differently themed restaurants based around Heritage Square . Super stylish , great staff hugely attentive and very well presented food , I guess more with a nod or reflection to Mexican food , inspired by it rather than limited by it . It gets booked up fast so sometimes tricky to get into but worth it . Go and enjoy .

Poor dining experience at Hacienda restaurant in Cape Town; prompt deposit taken but resulted in four out of six diners falling ill from the same shared dishes. Slow response from establishment when warned, with denial of responsibility attributed to a stomach bug. Don’t eat there it dangerous

Fantastic Mexican food and service

We came to the restaurant in January 2023 and our server helped us order 6 small dishes to share between 2 of us. We loved the Guac in particular in the Lobster Quesadillas. The food is delicious and tastes very fresh. We would love to come back it was our favourite meal we had in Cape Town!

Mexican food in Cape Town

We chose this restaurant because it was not far from our hotel and we wanted to try different cuisine after a few days of South African specialities. Elegant and welcoming place, warm colours. We chose a few dishes to share including guacamole which is freshly prepared in front of the table. Very good meat, spicy dishes and colorful tortillas that we are very fond of. 4 of us, eating different dishes and 4 beers, total less than €80 (i.e. less than €20 each). Considering the location and excellent food, in Italy it would have cost at least double. Some choices for vegetarians (bonus) Excellent recommended solution

Welcomed by a grandiose but tangibly relaxed atmosphere, sensational food with utterly brilliant balances of flavours and cocktails to suit. Faultless service - congenial, knowledgable, razor sharp alacrity. It is impossible to overstate how highly I regard the experince at Hacienda.
