We were made aware of Dias Tavern by a local who recommended them as a place to dine that was local, affordable and friendly. We initially walked right past the restaurant as it was not evident that it was a dining establishment and is located just down the street from a biker bar. We thought we might be in the wrong place. We finally figured out that it was the place and we entered. Once we climbed the stairs to the restaurant the fun began. The restaurant was busy and we were lucky to get a table. Lots of local people dining here which is usually a good sign. The service was friendly and tips on some of the dishes were provided. Some of the patrons at the next table engaged us in conversation and the atmosphere was upbeat. The food came promptly and was hot and plentiful. All of our meals were delicious and the value was exceptional. If you are in the area you shouldn't miss the experience.

Service was very slow indeed but it was very busy so ....Andheri we did wait very patiently. The server seemed a bit overwhelmed by the sheer volume of customers. Eventually our drinks arrived and then an eventually our food order was taken. We had a long wait for the food (over an hour) but it was worth it for me. The beef skewer I had was tender and tasty. My husband wasn’t so keen on his beef ribs and thought they were a bit dry. Other members of our group enjoyed delicious piri piri prawns and combos. But for our wedding anniversary couple ( and on Valentines Day too) the live music to dance to really made their night! I found it too loud and my ears were ringing. Very lively place indeed.

On the 31st January 2020 Dias Tavern hosted our wedding dinner celebration. It was a 3 course dinner made up of Starters platters of deep fried tentacles, trinchado and chicken liver with hot Portuguese rolls. Main course platters of peri Peri chicken prawns served with rice, chips and salads. Finished off with mini magnum ice creams on a stick. With copious amounts of wine and 1920's Ramon, Charles and team gave us a spectacular meal and evening with service being exemplary and delicious delicious food. We danced until closing time with their amazing one man band. We have been going to Dias Tavern for 30 years and once again they exceeded our best expectations. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Charlie our waiter was friendly and service was great. Food was delicious, I had calamari and my friend had Cape Salmon - fresh and tasty. Music - loved the song choices and excellent voice; would prefer slightly softer as had to shout at each other and it was early evening.

This friendly place has been a local's favourite for many many years. Our early evening dinner comprised deep fried calamari rings (so tender) with salad and chicken cordon bleu with mushroom sauce and the best chips. This Portugese-inspired tavern has been on the scene for over 30 years and still going strong! Great food, service and value for money!

Once again we had an amazing time at Dias The ambiance, the food and being served by Charlie himself wow, star treatment. The sole a la Dias, trinchada and the chicken Cordon Bleu were too die for. We had catemba but our friends had to pay corkage of R50 was a bit steep in my opinion

For an authentic Portuguese food experience Dias is the place. Nothing fancy so don't expect that. Sports bar atmosphere, but the food is good. The portions are huge so it's hard to order a few dishes to sample. We fed all the beggars around the restaurant with our leftovers. The baby chicken while tasty was not baby chicken. It was small cut big chicken pieces so didn't like that. Prawns were delicious, so was the rump steak with egg and the chips are sublime.

Chose this awful place for our end-of-year function. What a mistake. It used to be good if you look at my 2019 review. But unfortunately, the place has deteriorated massively. Must be new management or owners. I took 40 people for lunch. We were given two waitrons. One of them completely ignored us and most of the food arrived late. Food is now very average and not much better than an ocean basket. No management came over to see us or was interested in us. They simply dont care. What a waste of R10,000. I will never be back. DO NOT GO HERE - They do not care about customers and the food is poor.

I went with two friends for lunch. It was not our first meal here. We all had calamari tentacles for starters. Cleaned the sauce off my plate with my fresh roll. Two of us had baby kingklip and calamari tubes as mains (Excellent) and the other a Portuguese steak, which he enjoyed. Unfortunately we were all to full to order more. Guess we should not have had the second roll. We served by Charlie, who gave us excellent and friendly service.

We visited this restaurant following a recommendation from a friend that lives near capetown, and what a treat it was. The chicken peri peri was sublime! We've had the dish in many countries, including portugal, but this was by far the best! Great value too, and really friendly, helpful service. We will definitely be going back.

After a week in CT, we visited Dias on our last night. We found it by chance and were so glad we did. It was super affordable (makes for a change in CT), there was live music (Friday evening), and food was outstanding. A down to earth, authentic portuguese pub style restaurant. Highly recommended. Can't wait to go back when we're here next.

So grateful to our friends for taking us to this wonderful Portuagese restaurant. We would never have found it had we been clueless tourists. We didn't have a reservation and the restaurant was busy for early evening with many tables reserved. No matter the manager sorted out a table for four. Service was very efficient and friendly. Food was great, steak and eggs and chicken dishes. If I were a Cape Town resident this hidden gem would be high on my dining list.

As we were staying nearby we decided to give the Dias tavern a go. I have to say you do wonder where you are going when you enter the building but once you get upstairs be prepared to be surprised. Our waitress was lovely and helpful. The menu is varied and has great choices. I had the chicken prego roll which was amazing and my partner had half a piri chicken which he said was spot on. It is not expensive but the food is fantastic

A trip to Cape Town is incomplete unless one visits Dias. We went for a late lunch yesterday. Trinchado with chips soaked in the gravy for starters. Prawn mains and half chicken Peri Peri mains. Once again it was heaven on earth. Thank you Dias!
