We arrived at the park at approx 12pm, eager for some lunch before embarking upon the walks. We were worried that the tea room might be too busy or not have enough vegetarian options, but we didn't need to be concerned! We ended up having some toasted sandwiches to take away, for which we got to choose the bread and sides, and ate on a shaded bench in the park. Bliss! The only downside was that the full picnic take-away option looked amazing, and had so much variety in it, but was expensive at 250 per person. If they could do a smaller and cheaper version of this, that would be amazing!

We appreciate your great review, thank you. Our full picnic options are made to enjoy as a picnic and are therefore made to enjoy over a few hours enjoying the concert or relaxing in the garden. They can be pre-ordered on our website or on the day and as you pointed out our whole menu is available as a take-away.

The Fynkos tea room boasts a spectacular mountain view and a delightfully shady area in which to take afternoon tea or a light lunch. The menu is on the pricier side, the baked cheesecake rather bland and the service extremely inattentive. Perhaps it would be wiser to enjoy a drink here midway through one's visit to Kirstenbosch before moving on to one of the myriad excellent Southern Suburbs restaurants for a meal later on.

What a stunning setting, but certainly not worth the menu prices. The service started well until one order didn't appear. We waited 10 mins and then I went to ask where it was. It came out about 20 minutes later and was then the wrong order. So we sent it back again, it was nearly right the second time but the bread wasn't white it was brown, but my child ate it. Anyway for a R700 bill for 2 adults and 2 children for a light lunch you'd expect exceptional service. Not once did the manager come over to apologise, even when I explained we wouldn't be paying for the late incorrect order. Then they still had the cheek to put it on the bill even after I told them to take it off. My child was sad not to eat together and then be messed around and I was shocked at the fact someone can get a toasted cheese and bacon sandwich wrong twice for R110 a shot!!!! My advice is go see the gardens they are beautiful, but take a picnic rather save yourself cash and mither. #educationandtrainingiskey

Usually I really enjoy lunch at the Tea Room, but this time I was quite disappointed. I ordered an open health sandwich - when it arrived there were no sundried tomatoes (only cottage cheese, sprouts and mushrooms). I asked about this and the waiter offered to bring some on the side. Turns out they didn't have any left. I asked for a replacement and was given 3 slices of tomato. I don't think the end result was worth the price of the sandwich (1 slice of bread) and would have liked to been offered a more substantial replacement on the side. The waiter was lovely, but next time I hope for a better experience.

It is bad enough, that a national treasure like Kirstenbosch botanical Garden in itself is not affordable, and with that accessible to the majority of its citizen, but to not have any catering for the vast majority of people is simply disgusting. I ordered a cup of coffee, and on recommendation of the frond desk staff, a cheese cake. The first coffee needed to go back as it was clearly a old cup reheated. The coffee stained already the side of the cup and was still only luke warm. The replacement was not much better, looked like an instant coffee and tasted badly burned. When the cheese"cake" arrived, i was presented with a small little tartlet,(would fit in a small tea cup) still with the plastic rapper around it. The taste was ok, but no where near the praise I was given. I was really taken aback when the bill came R100 !! OUCH! I can get bigger, better and cheaper at a gourmet cafe!!! However I should not be surprised. Even though I was there during peak lunch/ afternoon tea time I did not see a single table with people of colour. Not that with this price it is surprising. But there is also nothing family friendly on the menu. As long, as we exclude our local population from treasures like this, we must not wonder, that they never learn to appreciate them.

Our cheesecake is freshly baked, way too big to fit in a cup, and does not have a plastic wrapper around it. Our coffee is a Brazilian and Columbian blend, the quality, taste, and thick crema which you would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.

If you want the most amazing, rich hot chocolate then this is the place to go. The hot cholates and home made lemonade were delicious. We have mixed reviews about the food. My scones were lovely, fresh and tasty. The cream & jam matched it perfectly. My younger son enjoyed his burger patty but not the chips. My other son enjoyed his apple pie, however the portion was huge so he could not finish it. The gluten free sandwich was not a favourite, the bread was not tasty & a bit bland. There wasn't much for my husband to choose from due to his allergies. It was very busy and atmosphere lovely. The birds roaming around adds to the calming atmosphere.

After a lovely walk in the gardens, we stopped at Fynkos near the top gate to enjoy a coffee. I was thrilled to find that they offer Almond Breeze unsweetened almond milk, the only brand that suits me. My decaf almond latte (double shot) arrived without even a suggestion of froth ontop, dead flat, it could not by any stretch of the imagination be considered to be a latte. I can't imagine why they failed to produce what I ordered, as I drink 14 to 21 lattes a week made with exactly this milk, and this was the first time it's ever presented as a complete failure. I was given no explanation. When the bill arrived I was flabbergasted to be charged R58 for my disastrous latte. Had it been a perfect latte, I would have thought it grossly overpriced, but under the circumstances I thought it daylight robbery. The breakdown was R38 for a latte (which wasn't one), R15 surcharge for the almond milk ontop of the price already charged for the milk, and R6 for the extra shot of coffee. This was, without any exception, the most expensive latte I've ever paid for, and the biggest failure. I asked to speak to the manager and was told she was in a meeting but that they'd call her. She didn't arrive, but a very sour-faced man showed up who didn't introduce himself. I explained what had happened, and he simply said sorry, turned, and walked away. That was it. I'm appalled by the barista's complete lack of skill, especially considering they were using their own choice of almond milk, delivering a complete failure. I'm appalled by the price tag of an almond latte, especially their almond milk surcharge which is nearly double what is charged elsewhere. Most of all I'm utterly appalled by the person who arrived as 'manager' and his complete lack of interest in the problem. I cannot think that a person with his attitude and complete disdain for my complaint could be an asset to any restaurant.

We apologise for your poor experience at our restaurant and we usually pride ourselves in our coffees, despite the use of almond milk. Our owner Pamela unfortunately could not see you at the time and you dealt with our previous Manager. We would love an opportunity to rectify this experience and would welcome you to pop in again and have a coffee on Pamela. We have taken your comments seriously and also adjusted the price of our almond milk. Thank you once again for bringing this to our attention.

Yesterday we had lunch here. Because of celiac disease i have to eat gluten free. That was absolutely no problem. We ordered Shashuka with gluten free bread and two gluten free muffins (cranberry and cinnamon with grated cheese and jam). I also had the homemade strawberry lemonade which tasted really naturally, not synthetically at all. We cab highly recommand this bistro.

My sister and a friend had large plates of food and were very satisfied with the quality and quantity. I had the Poached pear, roast beetroot, blue cheese and walnut salad which costs R180.00. The ingredients were very small amounts which left me still hungry afterwards. I feel this was definitely not value for money. The staff are very friendly and helpful and apart from my small salad it was a good visit.

Having a picnic 3-4 times every year at Kirstenbosch's Tea Room it's very disappointing to see how the portion is slowly getting smaller and smaller and the price quickly going up and up. Started with a HUGE and ABSOLUTELY AMAZING picnic for less than R200 we are now at a still nice but only average sizing porting for R305. So what do we do? Ordering one instead of two, spending 305 instead of almost 400 in the past, everyone looses. The guest because he is getting only one instead of 2 picnics and the restaurant because it makes less turnover. If you move on like this, we will bring our own picnic as 99% of all Kirstenbosch guests do already. Think about it...

We stopped for a snack while visiting the Botanic Gardens and were not disappointed. The savoury muffins we had with our coffee were fantastic! Signs ask you not to use mobile devices while at the table; we enjoyed our muffins in peace. Pamela's recipe books on sale in the restaurant.

Horrid food - really awful. Poorly presented - just slapped onto the plate. Toasted sandwish was soggy, Omelette was heavy and flavourless . Chips were edible, coffee was fine. Service was fine. Prices are very expensive in relation to the quality and taste. Cannot recommend.

Very attractive and enticing. Seating inside and outside. Busy but service is good. Menu is comprehensive and both presentation and food quality are excellent. Pricing is high, but then it is probably aimed at the tourist and we locals have to accept that, which is a pity. It just means that we don’t go as often as we would like.

Lovely varied menu at reasonable prices. Charming waitress albeit a bit slow. At almost any time of day you can have breakfast, tea or a main course. Very good choice. I recommend the bangers. Don’t bother with Moyo, the fancier Kirstenbosch restaurant. They tell you they are full when you can see dozens of empty tables. It seems they don’t want walk in business and they are stubborn with it.

We were pleasantly surprised at the wide range of food on offer as well as the quality. There is plenty to choose from, including good choices for vegans and vegetarians. My husband and I both had different salads and they were probably the best we had ever had. Staff were very friendly too. Definitely recommend eating here when spending time at the gardens.
