As early Sunday morning walkers we often struggle to find places in the city which are open. This was a great find, particularly as it opens at 08:00 and by that time we are ready for delicious food. Highly recommend the coconut breakfast and the toasted breakfast croissant. Dishes are attractively served and the marmalade came in a cute white dish. A pleasant change from the normal plastic, foil covered container. Good coffee, excellent coffee and pleasant surroundings all add to the experience.

Arrived at a busy time on a Sunday evening and got the last table. Slightly slow service for this solo traveller (restaurants should remember that if you’re not conversing you should be eating!) but the food was well presented and nicely cooked. The napery is of quality and the service is friendly and professional. Even better, they don’t constantly harass you with “Are you enjoying your food?”!

Had a light dinner here. I had the steamed mussels and my partner had a fish dish with prawns. Everything was so fresh and perfectly done! The tables are nicely separated and the service was excellent. Try the malva pudding. It's we orth the calories.

I used to love this place. At least twice a month we would drive from Claremont to Kloof street for that amazing view from Manna. As the years have moved along things seem to have changed. My standard breakfast of poached eggs with pesto and sourdough bread seemed to be getting smaller if that even makes sense. Perhaps they just simply started using larger plates ......After months of not being able to eat out my husband and I decided to have our first level 2 lockdown breakfast. I usually order the same breakfast religiously, the Parma style breakfast which comes with ham. I follow a vegetarian diet and asked them to replace the ham usually with mushrooms. For years they have done this but on this occasion I simply asked for the breakfast minus ham not asking for the ham to be replaced by mushrooms. Much to my surprise the bill came at full price.I asked the manager if they would be charging for something that I have not consumed and she irritatingly replied that this is the price. Perhaps I have been spoiled over the years by having my ham replaced with either avo or mushrooms and just expected the same great service. Perhaps the manager was just in a bad mood. This could of been handled so much better and fortunately for us Cape Town has so much great cafes with great views. We will be moving on .

We spontaneously decided to celebrate an occasion here and were looking for simple but lovely fish and veggies for a ladies night. We were charged extra R30 each for grilled (not fried), extra R45 each to change chips for vegetables (we didn't receive chips) and an extra R40 each for tartare sauce (which came free with fried fish). Exorbitant cost for a mediocre side street café fish meal. Unaccommodating and uninviting staff and ambiance. You've lost a customer.

Dear Margot2622, Thank you very much for your valuable feedback, I am sorry you feel you have been overcharged, I have tried to explain to you myself on the evening that the dish you ordered was not the fish & chips...and I see that despite my explanation, you still didn't understand. I will try to explain better then; You had the pan roasted fish of the day, not the fish and chips...These were 2 different dishes on our menu; You did not want deep fried fish with chips, you wanted grilled fish with vegetables so Nigel recommended the fish of the day which was the same fish, just prepared differently and came with zucchini. You also changed the fish of the day dish the Chef put together to make your own and requested the side that normally comes with the chicken, so we obliged and added that side, (crushed baby potatoes, seasonal vegetables and rainbow carrots) in addition to the zucchini that the fish of the day comes with so yes, we charged you extra for it. I am sure you didn't expect to pay the same price for additional side did you? You paid R165 for the fish of the day, which you received, plus R35 for additional seasonal vegetables and crushed baby potatoes, which you also received. Then you told me you didn't receive the tartare sauce and I did tell you that the tartare sauce didn't come with that dish, the tartare sauce comes with the deep fried fish & chips, the one you had was served with a lemon & basil butter sauce, which was on your fish. You then asked me for tartare sauce so again, I obliged and yes I did charged you R30 (not R40) for it as again, it is extra. So I hope you now understand that we did not charge you R30 extra to change the cooking method, neither did we charge you extra R45 to swap chips for vegetables. I am sad to read you thought we were unwilling to help with all the efforts made to accommodate your multiple changes to our dishes. I understand your frustration made you write that " mediocre side street cafe" comment and again, I am sorry you feel this way because you did not understand what you were paying for. I really hope this helped clear it out for you. Kind regards, Agnes

First: they have moved, the new location is at the junction Kloof Neck rd and lower Buitengracht st. We had a reservation which we did not need that evening, only 4 tables occupied. We got the recommendation for surf and turf by the waiter, consisting of a sirloin and a crab from Mosambique, coming with vegetables and garlic mashed potatos. My wife ordered the steak medium rare, mine should be medium, we could not see a remarkable difference, the taste was good. Together with a Petit Verdot it was a perfect meal, up to the end when we got the bill. So we spent for this 2200 rands, gratuity automatically included. Absolutely no inexpensive recommendation. We have never spent so much money for any dinner in South Africa so far within the last over 10 years.

This place looked nice, the menu had a few vegetarian options. We ordered the garden salad without feta and the gnocchi without feta and the pea protein pancakes which were listed as "pea protein GF pancake with layers of courgette, aubergine with a red pepper ketchup". It did not mention cheese. When the dish came it was layered with parmesan cheese on each layer. Parmesan contains rennet so this would not be vegetarian. When I complained to the staff they apologised but made no effort to re-supply the dish without cheese or not charge us for it. I explained that cheese should have been mentioned as people with bad allergies could have had a very serious reaction. As it was, my throat was starting to itch. In many countries there are laws about listing ingredients and restaurants take it seriously. Not this place, we ended up paying for food we could not eat. If they had handled the complaint more seriously then maybe I would have given them an extra star. They need to be more careful and clear with the menu.

What a fantastic find - Manna Epicure became our indulgent pleasure while we were back in Cape Town. Unassuming and unfussed, with such care an attention given to every plate of delicious food we tried, this has been our quiet and sneaky escape from the madness of the world outside. Thank you to Deborah for always looking after us with such joy and to the team in the kitchen for always serving up the delicious morsels that we have delighted in trying!

Always feel sorry to write a bad review, but our visit was really disapointing. Service was nice and fast, interior is nice- BUT the food was probably the most average food I've eaten in our whole SA trip. And on top of tzhat overpriced for what you get! Maybe the cook had a bad day, but my vegetarian dish was with no spices at all, mostly fat everywhere and tasted like nothing. Same for my partners dish. We left most of it on the table. Unfortunatelly no one askes if we didn't like it, I would have said someting on spot.

Dear ShutUpAndDance, I always feel terrible reading reviews like this because I can't fix it. I don't know when you came, whether you have a vegetarian option from our lunch menu or dinner menu, I cannot do any investigation on who was in the kitchen, what dish you had, who was the manager on duty, who was your waiter who didn't notify anyone that you didn't eat your meal... I am sorry you didn't let your waiter know about your experience, this would have helped a lot. It is so unfortunate, our vegetarian options are quite popular so I wish I could fix whatever went wrong so it doesn't happen to anyone else... Fat everywhere on a vegetarian option? apart from the olive oil on the salad dressing or the fried halloumi being oily, I don't know where to look... I will speak to the Chef to make sure he keeps a close eye on the preparation of the dishes. Best regards, Agnes

We were recommended this restaurant and arrived to a very warm friendly welcome. We sat just inside and yet still enjoyed a view to the street. Lovely atmosphere and light relaxing colour scheme and design. We gorgeous calamari in panic breadcrumbs which were excellent. Bread and wines were pleasant too. We then went onto our main course, I had moules with chips and the chips are excellent and very enjoyable. I honestly was slightly disappointed with the mussels - they really lacked flavour and felt the sauce didn't really add anything. But may have just been unlucky with the batch I had. My partner had the roasted tomato and aubergine burger with deep friend halloumi - which was an interesting combination and very pleasant.

My wife and I started off with Aperol Spritz, well, they haven’t got a clue, they kill the drink with ice, don’t use Prosecco, so the end result is a watered down glass of coloured water. Our goats cheese salad served on stale toasted rye bread, also needed much to be desired, served on a hot plate you could hardly touch, the leaves had all wilted by the time it got to the table. Walnuts not visible and when we asked we were told they were finely crushed and that was the dust on the side of the plate, bacon seemed like it had been boiled not nice and crispy, the teaspoon full of honey & mustard vinaigrette dressing couldn’t be tasted making the salad extremely dry, price of the salad R165-00. Further more it took an hour to get our salad with only 2 other tables occupied, a 2 seater and a single person. No wonder this restaurant is empty, a shocking experience and I would not recommend going there, we will never go back. I have eaten in many establishments in various parts of the world, we luv food and a great experience, this was just so disappointing.

Oh my word! I have already replied to the review you put up on a different platform so I will reply to this one as well, I wanted to copy paste my answer but I see you didn't even have the same version on both reviews... You went out of your way to create a TripAdvisor account to write this review which is filled with inaccurate statements. You placed your order at 13h52 and got your bill at 14h39, that is 50min all together, including the eating time and the multiple complains down to the olive oil bottle that was not to your liking, but yet you waited for your salad for an hour. Furthermore, the manager replaced your drink and made it to your specifications, you mentioned to him you were satisfied with it and drank it. I really am sorry you have this much anger in you, I hope you find peace and happiness, I really do. I don't have anything else to add to this reply, the content of your review is a pretty good reflection of yourself, not of my restaurant. All the best.

Lovely modern restaurant decor. Food was excellent and service was great and personal. Ostrich medallions and kob fish were both well prepared and nicely presented. Also enjoyed the South African dessert malva pudding.

Manna Epicure is tired and needs a revamp. The most memorable part of dinner was the warm wine. Acknowledged by the server, ice was offered. A warm salad followed the wine after an unreasonable wait. I prefer cold, crisp salads; a warm one was an unwelcome surprise. The mains were uninspiring. We didn’t stay for dessert.

Dear atoll-lover, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry your experience of manna epicure was under whelming, it is the first time i read we serve warm salad. We do not have salad on our dinner menu apart from a side of Greek salad which contains no leaves, only cucumber, green peppers, feta and tomato. As everything is kept in the fridge, i struggle to understand how it ended up warm so i'll monitor it closer to see how that could have happened. Our fridges were serviced before season and their temperature is a constant 3 to 5°, i will ensure the rotation of wine is done properly, thank you for bringing it to my attention. We have revamped manna recently, the only thing left to be done is the wallpaper in the bathrooms which is scheduled for March. I chose to leave the wooden floors as is as i love the charm it brings to the place. Again, thank you for your feedback. Kind regards Agnès

First time to this restaurant. White table clothes, friendly and informative waiters, great choice of food (including vegetarian dishes) and wines were delicious. Great atmosphere and great location. Highly recommend.

I have eaten at Manna Epicure many times and the food and service always have been top-notch. The friendly staff lets you linger after you have finished eating. The cost of a meal is reasonable as well, given the chic neighborhood. Though it claims that it features Mediterranean cuisine, I saw little evidence of that in the menu. No matter. The chef has a creative flair and uses only high-quality ingredients. By the way, if you sit in the restaurant’s veranda, you have a splendid view of Table Mountain.
