Food and ambience

Seasonal homemade Italian food made by Ricky Turilli "After your have eaten your pasta and placed your fork down on your plate, a lashing of tasty unfinished pasta sauce still remains. The phrase 'fare la scarpetta' refers to the small piece of bread {that looks like a little shoe} is used to mop up, by sweeping the bread across, to relive those last mouthfuls of sauce that once enrobed the pasta on your plate." - Ricky Turilli

Simplicity at its best! Non pretentious little place with the most comforting food that made me smile from inside out. The big boss is definitely the best host I’ve ever seen, who is passionate about flavour and ingredients. It felt like we were back in...Apricale! Grazie!More

The portion size was way too small. 3 of us were asked to share off a plate that was not meant for 3 people. The owner and staff made us feel very welcome and I was excited to try the food when I arrived. However,...we left the restaurant not hungry but starving! I’m not sure if they made a mistake with the portion size but it definitely was not enough food for three people. Furthermore, despite the sharing being a fabulous idea it’s not wise during the times of Covid. Rather have safer measures in place. Moreover, we were not informed that we would all be sharing off one tiny plate. I wish a had a picture to illustrate the size of the portion but unfortunately I did not take any pictures.More

Friendly owner who takes time to walk the tables. Food average. Nothing that stands out that makes you want to come back. Service extremely slow. Very noisy inside makes it hard to have a conversation

The moment my daughter and I walked in we were welcomed by Ricky who is the owner! He introduced us to the menu and we couldn’t decide what to order as it all sounded scrumptious! The food we decided on was out of the world...class! I nightly recommend it.. this is not just a restuarant it’s an experience!!!More

Left the place starving. Last night, I went to Scarpetta for a birthday celebration with a large group of about 24 people. We paid in advance R390 per person for a "family style" dinner. The dinner would consist of 4 courses to be shared -...so this seemed fair. The restaurant was informed of the dietary requirements and had ample time to prepare. Unfortunately, I left hungry. The first course vegetarian options were; some watery cauliflower, oily peppers and burrata (which was hard - how do you get that wrong?), the second course option was a garlic gnocchi which was very average and not up to Cpt restaurant standards. The mains was by far the worst. The vegetarian option was a plate of side vegetables....that's it. Some dry, flavorless vegetables. I asked the waiter if any other vegetarian food would be coming and there wasn't. And finally the dessert, which I was looking forward to because I knew that I would be able to eat that. The tiramisu, well that's what they called it anyway, was highly disappointing. Dry, bland, and tastes like it was made with the cheapest ingredients. The best way to describe the food that I experienced was airplane food. Now something else to consider is that all of this food was being shared between FOUR people. So the vegetarians weren't getting their own gnocchi or vegetables it was being shared with all the meat eaters. If I had known I would be getting some side vegetables for mains I would have kept the rest for myself! Will never be going here again. They really need to do better. Come now, it's 2020! An Italian restaurant should have a vegan and vegetarian menu. The only good thing about it was that we didn't have to pay corkage. So instead of eating Italian food I ate grapes.More

Heard lots of good things about this place but I have to say the service was very slow. 2 hr wait to get your main meal and no drinks were offered to the table. Overall disappointed 😔

Went for supper with friends, on a hot night. You can go for the menu on the blackboard or the chef/owner/server gives you a selection of what he has on offer. Anti pasta excellent, pasta dish was mussels, more sauce than fish. Mains was the...best Oso bucco I have had but on a hot night was too rich. Main problem was the length between courses, at least 1 hour between pasta and the mains.More
