I visited the restaurant last Friday. It was busy and I was alone. Moses my waiter was friendly and very helpful at first. Once he brought out my food he did not check on me again! He also left the slip indicating the food order under a plate as if he assumed that, that was all I was ordering. I would have loved another drink and would've possibly tried another dish because the German sausage and lamb croquettes were delicious! Instead I had to go to the Maitre'd to indicate that I wanted to pay, and they then had to flag down Moses (who I could see was run off is feet with the tables he was attending to) to allow me to settle my bill. Moses did apologize for not checking on me, since I brought it to his attention. I'm disappointed and won't be back!:-(

Average German food and limited German beer selection

This German brauhaus is right on the V&A waterfront. They serve several beers on draft, including a German style weissbier, but the selection of German beers was not extensive and most of the beers were local. You can sit outside overlooking the waterfront or at communal, Bavarian style tables. The pretzel was great and you can dip it in German sweet mustard or cheese sauce. The food was good, but not spectacular. We were disappointed that they don’t have a German style bratwurst on the menu and that they pre-peeled the weisswurst. All in all, an OK experience but we wouldn’t necessarily recommend it unless you really want a German food fix.

This is a large lively bar offering a wide range of reasonably priced bar food and a good range of drinks, including cocktails and beers. There are large screens showing sports and also regular live entertainment. Service is friendly too!

Can honestly say that this was the worst experience we have encountered for service in the 3 weeks we have been in Cape Town (and area). We were shown to a table by a waitress and got drinks ✔️ then left for 15 mins - we had to ask another waitress if we could order! She asked if our starters could be brought at the same time as our mains??? Whatever!! On meal arriving burger was raw inside - not a problem - someone who I presume was the manager returned it to the kitchen and also my husbands meal to keep warm! On returning burger was fine but everything else cold - couldn’t be bothered to complain as hungry!! Before we had finished our meal the original waitress returned and asked us to move to another table as a big group of drinkers had come in and they needed our table as more had turned up and wanted to sit with their friends!! I refused as we were nearing the end of our meal - we were then brought the bill and paid before finishing - the people who needed our table were stood next to us and it was quite intimidating and not the relaxed last meal in Cape Town we envisaged!! Apologies off the manager(?) but that didn’t make up for what we can never get back! Not even a free drink! Thank goodness going home today!

Terrible eisbein and bad attitude frok manager

We went to kaapstad brauhaus waterfront as a couple to enjoy our lunch . Been hearing about this place from friends . So we decided to go there yesterday sunday 01 09 24 . As we arrived we were nicley seated by a friendly waiter zintle . We were given menus one of it was dirty and had food stains i called the waiter to show her and she kindly gave us another clean one . Our waiter was then changed to a beautiful kind lady named TALENT she was so sweet 10/10 services . We orderd a cocktail which was good alongside with a bottle of wine . Drinks took abit long but it was not a issue as we were not in a rush for anything . The drinks came and we orderd our statrers peri peri chicken livers 10/10 they were very good we orderd a chicken pizza to start which was also good . Our mains 350g ribeye and the eisbein . Which i was looking forward too asked my waiter to have my eisbein with a crispy crackling . Ahh what a dissapointement . The eisbein came size was good and it was indeee crispy however the center was pink tough chewy and a Raw. How did they get that right? I dont know . I then told my waiter about this and she transferd my compliant to the manger . Manager came with a disgusting attitude i asked him how the eisbein was prepared as i was curious to know how did it still be raw cold and tough with a beautiful crunchy crust? He told me with a annoyed face that it was boiled and told me that i asked for crispy and i got crispy did not give me a chance to expalin my complaint properly and wat my issue was . Did not apologize for anything but bluntly told me this is what i orderd and this is what i got . He offred me to take the raw meat home ? Why on earth would i want to take a tough huge raw piece of meat home? His attitude was disgusting and disrespectful i then asked to get my bill . I feel very upset about my experience there nd how my situation was handled . I paid for my raw crispy eisbein . Over all that flused away the whole vibe .

Terrible experience, a place to avoid

We have been there for new year eve. When we booked the table they asked us to pay Rand 750 per person in advance, just to confirm the booking. We ordered our food, after one hour they told us that the kitchen was closed and they could not provide any food for us. I had to complain with the manager. After a few minutes they brought us our food. Starters and main courses at the same time. Our actual bill was much lower of what we had paid in advance, they refused to give us a refund or to give us some takeaway to cover the money we had paid. I tried to speak with the manager again, but he was already speaking with some other people who were complaining with him for the same bad service they gave to us.

Our last evening in Cape Town at Brauhaus Blouberg was truly awful. Moved tables several times trying to attract the attention of a waiter, ordered after some time. Food came, sausage dish was cold, no side sauerkraut or red cabbage on the plate, my snitzel side dish was ice cold, . My food arrived, my husbands never did. . 2 of the 3 sausages were still cold, , and a teaspoon portion of sauerkraut and red cabbage suddenly on the plate. Awful service, so surprised after that awful experience the waiter had the guts to ask for a tip .

We had a rather disappointing experience during our visit yesterday evening. Wanted to try out this new place with my friends, we were a huge crowd fantasising on a german experience. Unfortunately, upon arriving at the main entrance, the host very friendly helped us move from the smoking area to the balcony despite being a bunch of us she made a plan. We were left unattended for nearly 10 minutes. It was disheartening we felt unnoticed and unwelcome during that time so others decided to walk to the buy to get a few drinks. We eventually had to take the initiative and inquire about service ourselves only then we had a 2 servers who come to assist us thinking it would get better the drinks took 10minutes to come, half of them were wrong. the waiter had the guts lie that the didnt make coffee only to stand up and go to the bar to get one made. food 5+dishes came out totally wrong, we had to just eat because we had waited close to an hour for our food. Regrettably, we ultimately left unhappy no manager came to check on us. It is my hope that the team could work on improving their service standards to ensure a more welcoming and attentive experience for all guests. i wouldnt recommend this place at all

Accosted for not leaving a tip (when the tip was 27% actually)

Our team regularly stops at Brauhaus for after work drinks on Fridays. Arrived at around 16:30 for a table of 8. Service was below average. As it was a split bill, I know there is extra effort required. Total bill was ZAR 750, and left a tip of ZAR 200. Settled everything, with barely a thank you - understand it gets busy. Before we left, a waiter (not the one who assisted us in settling) accosted myself and a colleague for allegedly not leaving a tip on the bill. I indicated that we had settled the bill with another waiter and had left a tip of ZAR 200. As I proceeded to leave, I was told I had to wait because the waiter needed to first "check" that I had in fact left a tip. After two minutes, the waiter came back indicating that he had found the ZAR 200 card payment. No apology, but more than that, no thank you for the 27% tip.

Worst meal

My husband and I went there for lunch yesterday and what a disappointment! The food was inedible, I had ordered an Eishbein, it was dry and tasteless. The potato dumplings tasted old and stodgy. My husband had a selection of German sausages with the smallest piece of bread and a spoonful of sauerkraut. The sausages tasted old and of bad /old oil. I couldn’t eat even a quarter of the eishbein, and didn’t bring the rest home. Not at any time did the staff ask if we liked our food……. That says something to me, like they know it’s not good, they don’t care. Don’t waste your money in this place.

Beware the Bavaria (Salad)

Poor Service and very mediocre food. Our starters were tasty but nothing special. My husband ordered a Caesar Salad with Chicken. It arrived without a single piece of chicken and the salad dressing arrived after he had finished his meal. The salad was just a heap of ordinary salad leaves with a bit of grated cheese and a few bacon pieces…. And cost more than a burger. Not a sign of any other salad ingredient… and not a sign of our waitress until she appeared with the dressing after we had finished eating. I can only recommend Brauhaus for Beer…. And with the uncomfortable seating, you are perhaps better off going elsewhere. What a disappointment 😖

What should have been an easy, quick lunch in a relatively empty restaurant turned out disappointing on a couple of levels. First of all it seems that the bar only stocks premium spirits, there is no way to get a bog standard gin and tonic. Add to that, the waiters are trained to upsell doubles. You have to insist on a single if that is what you want. So be prepared for a steep drinks bill. Added to that, after waiting for our meals for 45 minutes we were told that the waiter had not put our order in. I am not sure that I entirely believed that. Very poor service in a climate where restaurants should be putting a bit more effort in.

The wait for food today was extremely long, the waitress forgot my order and still wanted to challenge me when I reminded her of it. And the attitude when I did not leave a tip was shocking. Management offered a complimentary beer for me when the others in our group had finished their food and I was still waiting, but by then it was too late - the damage was done. On the plus side, the quality of food that the others in my group got was really good. Remember, waitrons create the experience!

Great place to visit with friends

We were on a Riviera tour we and a group of us c12-14 who had sort of gelled over the holiday came for a relaxed dinner on our last night. Great selection of beers and the food is top notch "pub food". Burgers, steaks, pizza's pasta etc. If you're after a more up market meal, or a romantic couples meal then I would say this is not the place for that. It's very much a group place where you sit a long tables and chat and laugh, often loudly, over a beer. The service was good whilst we were there, couldn't complain and the general attitude towards our group from the staff was very much, great to see you, hope you're having a good time, please come again type of thing. And if I know a group of friends who are visiting Cape Town any time soon I would recommend they try it out.

Visited this large beer hall on the first 2 days of my (current) 19 day trip to the Western Cape. First day’s visit was a pleasure with attentive, friendly service and great beers and wine in front of the big screens showing test cricket. Today we called in at lunchtime, I ordered a draught beer and my wife asked for the house vodka with Coke. We queried the inflated bill to be told by a visibly upset waitress that she had made a mistake by ordering premium vodka and that she would pay the difference. Obviously no tourist would put a lowly-paid worker in that position so we paid the bill while at the same time reassuring the staff member. Three hours later we returned for a couple more beers and on this occasion my wife requested a Bacardi Rum with Coke leaving no room for doubt. On leaving, the bill duly arrived, again inflated. When it was queried the upset waiter blurted out that he must have ordered a double by mistake and he would have to pay for it. Snag is on this occasion the order was taken by a supervisor, once is an accident, twice in one day is unacceptable and beyond coincidence. It’s difficult if not impossible to play this game with beer and wine but spirits make it easy. Whether it is done with or without the knowledge of management it is unworthy of this fine city which welcomes visitors with a smile. I’m here for another fortnight, love my beer but won’t be settling foot in this place again.
