Good food, good atmosphere, good prices, good drinks, good music; what's not to like?! Would suit couples and groups (although you need to book - but they let us eat at the bar).

My experience at Mama Africa is best described as ehhhhh. Everything wanted on the menu, they didn't have. We ordered our food and 30 minutes into waiting for the food, they notified us that they also did not have one of things we ordered, The food itself was ehhhh. I wouldn't come back for the food. Their saving grace is... More

We called in this restaurant after a day of touring. They were only just opening and were fully booked but let us eat at the bar. We had a lovely meal and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Sadly we couldn't stay until the music started, but if in Cape Town again I would definitely go back.

A fun place to spend the evening with good food and live music. Gets very busy so best to pre-book. It's also very noisy so wouldn't go there if you're hoping to have a quiet chat with friends! One platter of mama's wild game mixed grill offers enough food for two people (costs extra for the warthog) and I would... More

After an amazing trip in South Africa we ended our last night in cape town here. It's very geared towards tourists but there was an INCREDIBLE band playing and a super lively atmosphere. They don't take reservations so we went to sit at the bar, we ordered drinks of the lady behind the bar, she was rude almost aggressive and... More

We went there on our first day in Cape Town and we really enjoyed the ambiance with live African music (great band!). Food is good - nothing fancy or great but acceptable. I would still recommend for the experience of live music and food.

I first went to Mama's just after it opened 20 odd years ago and have had the occasional visit on trips to Cape Town. Over time it has become an institution which should be visited when in Cape Town. Amazingly, it's hardly changed in all that time. The atmosphere is great, the music interesting without being invasive and the food... More

The food wasn't all that great for the price and the service was inconsistent. I vacation in Cape Town once a year and this will be the last time I go to this restaurant and will be sure to let friends and family know to skip this option when visiting.

We came again having been previously about 8 years ago. We had to make a reservation a few days in advance to make sure we could, but this was easily done by email and they were very prompt in their communications. The restaurant has a great atmosphere. We were in the main area rather than the music section - you... More
