Went to Cape Town January 22. This place is shut down and the building derelict - shame as had been worth visiting, no other indications on the internet to show this place is closed, which it obviously has been for ages.

Went for lunch so we didn’t get to experience live music. However, the food was great and the African Moonshine was even better.

If you’re feeling a bit adventurous I’d recommend the wild game platter, you won’t be disappointed. The band was awesome and the prices are very reasonable.

I was recommended to go check this place out and glad I did. It was so delicious! It’s a very touristy place but it was worth checking out. I showed up without a reservation and was lucky enough they could accommodate me. I tried ostrich...for the first time and I didn’t realize how good for you it was and how great it tasted! I left so full.More

Very good, however walking to the venue was a bit uncomfortable with chaps offering drugs,on street corners , once inside was fine I took an Uber home and think was good advice .Service seemed stretched but friendly enough. Drinks were cheap with the exchange rate...being positive, food was ok was not expecting fine dining. The live music was absolutely fantastic, we enjoyed every minute. Would go again for sureMore

We turned up without a booking, and were squeezed in. This confused us as the place was not exactly heaving when we went in. However a few minutes later a 50 seater coach turned up and emptied it's passengers into the restaurant. The reason I...mention this, is the restaurant is geared for the tourist trade, and copes with large parties well, However our waitress, Jo, was just as attentive and helpful to us, a table for two in the corner, as she was in assisting in serving the recently arrived coach party. The menu was full of African dishes, the wine list had extensive tasting notes on each bottle, and local beer available. Not somewhere to go for a quiet romantic dinner, the atmosphere was lively, with a band playing in the bar area. The food was cooked very well and the service was first class. The doorman will ask if you have a booking before allowing you entry, and we did see several groups turned away. We got lucky, booking seems to be essential.More

We walked into a heaving restaurant with the band in full swing, so first impressions were good. The menu gave quite a few options, with game playing a big part of it. The prices were reasonable and the lager selection was probably the best I’ve...seen in Cape Town so far. Fully recommendable if you want local food.More

Mama Africa is a great restaurant to visit and eat. The art on the building attracted us to it. Inside, there's a lot of memorabilia of pictures, painting and things to buy. The live band playing that night was Abakhaya, their music was very good...with live instruments, really entertaining and engaging with the guests. (Place charges a small fee for the live band, it'll be noted or they'll tell you). Food that we had was chicken wings and a cheese pancake of some sort. All the food was very delicious! Great food with a live band was worth the visit and for everyone to come and enjoy. No problems at all.More

Lively African restaurant with music and great African cuisine. Can feel a little touristy, but just relax into the music.
