We had dinner at the restaurant. The green curry was so bad that my husband had to send it back. The mushroom risotto, which used to be a signature dish, was awful. It tasted of so much vinegar. It was woeful but I was hungry,...so I ate it. But my tongue felt like it had been bathed in vinegar. Wimpy makes better food. The service is also lacklustre and it took too long to bring the disgusting food out. The manager did not even bother to come and talk to us. The chef should be fired. In fact, the restaurant should change its name to Losers. Societi IBistro is no more. It used to be a wonderful restaurant: wonderful food, service and ambiance but no more! Don’t go near this place! I feel outraged to have paid good money for a disgusting meal.More

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel for our last meal in Cape Town for our honeymoon. Our starters were fabulous as was our waitress, very knowledgeable and attentive. My main of lamb neck was nice but my husband had to send back his steak...twice as the first time it was full of sinnew and unable to cut through it and the replacement was raw! So disappointing. Cooking steak beautifully is what we hope all restaurants do and this fell short of basic expectations and the waitress was wonderful and apologetic but it wasn’t her fault. The restaurant is lovely inside but fell short of what we expected due to the reputation and their prices.More

Recommended by those nice people around the corner at Tintagel Guesthouse, we knew we were in for a treat. But at around 6.30pm when we arrived there was nobody there! No atmosphere, SB felt like a morgue. The only living thing the wonderful Michael... We...chatted and said we would come back later when hopefully more diners would arrive.... afteralll, a booking is a booking and we are Brits, we stick to our word and so an hourish later after a couple of beers up the road we were back. And thank God we did. By this time there were half a dozen tables being used in the charming garden. And by the time we left the place was rocking, the candles supplied for yet another power shed adding to the ambience of this really good Bistro, We chose a range of meat and salad dishes topped off with Italian ice cream. A super meal, supported by the knowledgable, professional and hardworking Michael who's blood sweat and tears of love for this place shines through. So the motto is simple. In these difficult times for hospitality businesses anywhere in the World. If you say you will go to a place, GO. And go to the Societi Bistro if you want a great night.More

After a lovely movie at the Labia, and a gorgeous evening, my friend and I decided to visit Societi Bistro for dinner. The waitress was sadly not good, and the food inedible. The manager kindly deduced the "butterfly" prawn risotto off our meal, but the...food was overcooked and the prices ridiculous. It may be due to the management scandal earlier this year. But it is sad that we experienced this, pre-covid we had far, far better experience. I do hope you guys can up your service and food. Do hope that this review will spur you to change.More

Had a truly wonderful meal. Brilliant waiter, funny and patient with our fairly exhausted kids, food and drink was excellent. Not the most inviting of exteriors, but very warm welcome and exceptional value.

Had dinner at Societi Bistro, with high expectations based on pre-covid reviews. Huge disappointment and will not return. Over priced food, poor quality and terrible value for money. Cured tuna starter at R145 per portion contained a few grams of tuna chopped up with veg...and other unmemorable ingredients - definitely nothing to write home about on the taste front. Monk fish main at R160 presented on ordinary mashed potatoes with a tiny portion om spinach….sent it back to the kitchen when the tiny medallions of fish was cold and so rubbery you couldn’t cut through it. Completely tasteless, the chef offered a replacement meal, which we declined. (Enough disappointment already by then.) Pork belly at just under R200 per portion was ok-ish thanks to the baste/sauce….but the meat itself was cold and dry. Likely one of the poorer pork belly experiences ever in Cape Town. Wine glasses reminded of thick ‘Spur style items which are poured up to an actual white mark….! It felt heavy to handle with way too much wine in it. The entire experience in a restaurant with three other tables occupied on this Saturday evening said everything: Avoid it.More

Looking for a restaurant for dinner after movies at the Labia cinema, I fortunately came across this little gem which also offered a special with the cinema. So movie ticket and simple meal for R60! The front of house manager quickly arranged it all for...me, tickets and table booked in seconds. Expecting a strong south easter wind he suggested an inside table. After the movie, the wind hadn't arrived and my table had been moved into the lovely garden. At this price, the options were obviously limited, but by adding pancetta to my pasta, I had a gourmet pasta dish. I added an almond gelato for dessert. Yummm! With a bottle of sparkling water and a glass of wine, my surcharge was R127. Good service, tasty food and wonderful garden ambience on a warm sultry Autumn nightMore

My partner introduced me to this restaraunt 3 months ago, and since then I have been back to it 5 times! The outdoor seating is cool and classy, and the indoor seating is VERY warm and cozy. You will not find a better spot for...a romantic valentine's date. Because atmosphere means so much to me in a restaraunt, there are a few important points worth mentioning: A. I love that Societi Bistro is low-pitched enough that I can easily hear my own table's conversation. B. I LOVE the DESSERTS & COFFEE at this venue! This is a place where I don't eat and run, but instead order coffee and dessert, and sit and talk for a LONG time with my closest friends. C. I LOVE the SNUG! The Snug is a very warm and classy lounge, away from the tables, and filled with luxurious leather couches and wing-back chairs, including a solid WiFi connection. If you need a good spot for a business meeting, the quiet and comfortable Snug is the perfect spot. Now, about the food... Upon my first visit, the owner came to my table and recommended the mushroom risotto as a starter, and when I didn't take the hint he sent it over anyway as a complimentary additional dish; it was AMAZING! Since then, I've had the steak, the lamb (twice) , and the porkbelly (twice). I honestly can't say which is my favorite. There are always new specials being served, and they are always fantastic. For dessert, there's the lemon tart, the chocolate nemesis, and the cheesecake. All 3 are decadent, and the cheesecake is, by far, the best cheesecake I have tasted since moving to Cape Town 8 years ago. Societi Bistro does not cover and hide the taste of its fabulous cheesecake with syrups, sauces, berries, or anything else. This dessert's brilliance is in its classic simplicity. It tastes like my granny made it for Thanksgiving dinner! I've been to MANY restaraunts in Cape Town, but Societi Bistro is the one that keeps me coming back, over and over. Definitely my favorite!More
