Had lunch here today and was blown away by the delicious dishes! Excellent server who explained the food perfectly. Pillowy shu mai was served with three sauces, from mild to slightly hotter, each one unique and layered in flavor. Pan fried mushroom dumplings were served with a delicate spring onion, garlic and ginger sauce. A main dish of sizzling vegetables featured eggplant that had a crunch on the outside and custard texture inside, several types of mushrooms, and light and crispy tofu in a sweet umami sauce, served with delicate and light fried rice. I will dream about this food. This is a must visit Cape Town restaurant for foodies!!

Great, great, great food. Absolutely superb food. However, they advise that they serve sushi but check before you book. They only serve sushi at a specific time in the day. We ate numerous dishes between three of us and it was absolutely superb. Well done to the Chefs!!

We had dinner on the 2nd September. I have eaten there before but a few tears back and it was brilliant. Recent reviews haven’t been great though but I decided to give it a bash. As a family we indulged in several dim sum. Dishes. A few items on the menu were not available, but but we had was excellent. For mains we had the half perking duck and sizzling duck. The half Peking duck was R325. At that price I did expect a good half Peking duck and it was not. The skin was not crispy, the meat dry and the pancakes too thick and not fresh. The sizzling beef was ok. It is a great pity about the Peking duck as there is literally no where else in Cape Town to get one. That being said, I would not recommend it. The service was below average. Ambiance was fine. On the whole the evening was OK. Value for money is a 2 out of 5.

Cannot believe this restaurant. Felt like i was eating at a fish market. The chaos is unreal. They want to charge R250 for a bowl of thai curry (nothing served with it- you have to order ur rice or noodles separately) but they can't get their basics right. We had to find a waiter to get our order taken after 30 minutes of waiting. The starter was laughable. We ordered prawn and avo tempura and literally got 2 slices of fried Avocado and 2 fried prawns. NO CUTLERY. So we had to eat with our hands and then no wipes were given before or after. No straws with the drinks they asked us to stir it witha chopstick. Ordered an indian curry that was supposed to come with rice but came with naan instead but noone informed us of this change. Also ordered water and got given a 1.5lt bottle (also with out the waiter telling us). Also the fish curry was soooo salty. Kitchen was closed so we couldn't do anything about it. Can't believe i paid so much for a meal and feel so cheated. Not even an after dinner mint with the 4 figure bill.

Haiku has always been a go to great restaurant but my experience last night has made it a ‘never visit again’ restaurant. The food was frankly shocking. Pot stickers were doughy, cold an inedible. The Gunpowder calamari tasted like it had been re heated amd somehow I ended up with two Main courses both of which were inedible. The Angry duck was totally un inspiring and again cold and the rib eye was overdone to the point where it was chewy. The rest of the family’s food was equally as bad - the sizzling beef was drowned in pepper and the Peking duck was so tough the kids ended up making vegetable pancakes. First time in my life I can recall Peking duck being left in eaten in my family 😡. It was an expensive meal for what it was but frankly that’s not the point. If restaurant’s hope to survive they cannot simply just open there doors and expect patrons to put up with poor quality to this extent.

We arrived with an uber to this restaurant, is not the best neighborhood. We got to chose the table. We had some problems in the beginning with the drinks because we got warm sparkling wine, but I asked if I could change it and it was okey. We tried to order some white wine chenin blanc, but all was empty, so we ended up with one cheap souvignon blanc because this was one of the only cold ones they had. The dumplings was good, and the main course was okey. We ended up with 2050 ran. So okey price for 4 persons eating stater, main course and shared one dessert. Had 2 wines, 2 beers + coffee. All in all okey, but I'm not coming back because I missed the good service.

This was one of my favourite restaurants especially when one was part of a large group where you had a great selection of tapas which was wonderful for sharing. The menu has now changed and it is now not a tapa restaurant. The food was poor service was haphazard with no structure on delivery. This was fine when it was a tapa restaurant and we could share. Now one person can be served their food and be finished dining before the next person even receives their food. In addition the quality was not good with hard dried out noodles and a prawn which had 4 times more batter than fish. Never again

I went with my wife on what was supposed to to a romantic night out. The reception was warm and welcoming. I was presented with both the Haiku and Awara menu and we both opted for the Haiku menu as we had very fond memories. We ordered a behl Puri starter. It was a huge bowl of dry unbalanced rice crispies and nuts with a small drizzling of sauce on top. It was not pleasant at all. I would suggest it be served in a flatter bowl so that the sauce can cover the behl Puri more consistently. We had to ask for more sauce and even then it wasn’t right. I ordered the ginger seafood wok. I did not realise wok meant deep fried seafood in a batter. It was absolutely drenched in oil. The ginger was very subtle. The calamari was so tough I could not cut through it. I asked the waiter and he changed it for a softer but even more drenched calamari. I had egg fried rice with that and that was the only part of my meal that was OK. My wife had chilli chicken, which was under the dimsum heading. My wife was expecting dumplings but instead got way overspiced over salty doughy chicken pieces that was horrible. The waiter suggested fried brochilli salad to accompany that which was so salty, soggy and spicy it threw the balance out even further. Only the top pieces of broccoli were tasty and crispy. R600 later I would have been far happier with KFC. All in all a very disappointing experience at an over priced restaurant which will not see us again for a long time to come.

For almost a decade we’ve been going tonHaiku every single time we visit Cape Town. This time our waiter was too busy to come serve our table of 10 and tried his best to avoid us. Completely out of MCC - in Cape Town!!!! But suggested a R1800 bottle of Moet instead. Food was still good but the Peking duck is just not what it used to be. This has always been such a gem and one of our favourite places in the country. Truly hope management pulls it together because too many phenomenal places in Cape Town to survive like this

Thanks to our amazing server for the best hospitality! But that was all we walked away with. The food was very dissappointing and overpriced. We do not mind paying a pretty penny for food, as long as the quality and flavour matches it. While I acknowledge that the Chinese/Indian fusion is perhaps not our preference, we still found the flavours basic and unenjoyable. I was not able to finish my food - a rare occasion. The cocktails need a lot of work too.

Service was shocking. Firstly waiter forgot 2 out of our 3 starters? When querying it, no apology just a comment that he requested them to make it from scratch. Starters arrived with main. The shocker was, informed him of my mushroom allergy. Dish arrived with mushrooms. He then tried to convince us that that was what we ordered and it was stated on the menu. When I requested the menu, he had placed an order for a completely different dish. The manager on duty came over to apologise and stated that he wouldn’t charge us for the incorrect meal. Really? I guess the fact that I couldn’t eat it, that seemed fair (insert sarcasm)! Really disappointing for what previously was a Cape Town institution. Stay away!

This was the worst dinner experience ever. The food and wine is seriously overpriced. But warning signs were there when after being seated we were told to move tables as someone else had booked the table we were seated at. Well we had reservations too. The service is bad. For both starters and dinner the food arrived with 10 to 20 Minute intervals for each person. U end up eating alone or when waiting for others food to arrive yours would be cold. The management makes no excuses and informs you that’s how they serve dinner. At one point t they took an order when we enquiries why that particular mea did not arrive they said they were out stock. Well thank you for informing us. Go there and be prepared to pay circa R117 for 2 pieces of sushi. No wonder it’s not rated. I should have know this prior making reservations. Was our worst dinner experience ever.

Superb food at reasonable prices. Attentive service but the food shines. Lamb dumplings; hot and sour soup simply divine. Oh and the lamb cutlets tandoor. A must eat at in Cape Town.

Something is very wrong with this restaurant. We have been coming to Haiku for years, and absolutely loved it. However, in this most recent trip, it was a terrible and almost embarrassing experience. The food was still good, but the service was atrocious. A few examples: a very surly manager met us adverb we arrived, and while seemed annoyed with our request to be at at a table more to our preference than the one booked for us; the waitress in our section appeared to be actively avoiding us and it took us ages to get our menus and drinks orders; one friend had to ask 4 times for his drink; when the wine arrived, they had no wine glasses and served it to us in champagne glasses; there was no icebucket for the wine either; a second bottle of wine was different to the one ordered but had no label so had to be carefully scrutinized for this to be established. Such was our annoyance that we caked the manager to complain about the service and litany of issues, and he just stood there and said all he could do was apologize (and indeed that was all that was done, without even an offer of a complimentary drink even to our friend who waited 30 minutes to be served and had to threaten to leave without paying before it was eventually served). This was our final meal of our trip to Cape Town, and what should have been a highlight was a true disappointment. I don't know what happened, and from the attitude of the management last night it seems they don't really care, but this place needs some people who actually know what they are doing if it is ever going to survive. That said, I doubt very much this place will still be in business in a years time. Which is sad, because it used to be really good.

Maybe we are spoilt in London with the authentic Chinese food. The dimsum not good at all- one dish over steamed and fell apart before eating. The duck and pancakes very average. Pancakes were also over cooked. Do not recommend at all I’m afraid… wish we’d skipped it. Cape Town has so many good places to it- suggest skipping this one. Service was good though.
