My first visit to Cape Town. I was surprised by the ambiance in the area around the restaurant. Wine bars, other restaurants, tables outside, altogether a very friendly and convivial atmosphere. Same for the Miller's Thumb, nothing pretentious, good fish, well cooked and excellent service...from the young staff Simple but effective My thanksMore

Very friendly place with a varied fish menu, from simple grilled fish to a variety of styles and flavours. The local fish, Kingpin and Kob were both excellent with the kingpin getting the vote. Reasonable prices and helpful staff, en enjoyable visit for us.

Really difficult to book but we eventually managed to via WhatsApp. Friendly welcome and the menu was well explained. Starters weren’t great. Calamari that was dosed in so much chili it was unpleasant to eat. A salad with giant hunks of sun dried tomatoes which...was completely overpowering. The fish mains - Marlin & Kinkiip were delicious and cooked so well but the sides were miserable. Chips, rice or veg. The veg was soaked in soy sauce which overpowering the delicate fish.More

Delicious seafood and fish. We shared a starter of the most tender calamari. It could be cut with a fork. Our entrees were the prawns and Kingklip, both done with olive oil and lemon. The veggies were perfect and the chips were crisp. Tastes of...wine were offered before our wine decisions were made and our server alloted a small break for us between our starter and entrees arriving.More

Wow how wonderful to return to Cape Town and have another amazing meal at Millers Thumb, Jane is always so welcoming and makes you feel like you are seeing an old friend and always brings the menu to life. The calamari to start was perfect...as was the Kingklip and Yellow Tail, I had the Kingklip Malay style it was outstanding, the yellow tail was done with wasabi dressing and it was so hard to decide which was best, topped off with chocolate mud pie and bottle of sparkling wine. It was so good we returned for a second night. The whole team are so friendly and relaxed. I love this place and it’s first on the list to book, Thank you Jane & Sol for more special memories.More

Had dinner here on our first night in Cape Town. We walked from our hotel along Van Waal park which was ok in the daylight. The staff were friendly, efficient and welcoming. The atmosphere is good, it’s not haute cuisine but very much a neighbourhood...restaurant. A perfect choice by our hotel for our first, jet lagged, night. The menu was varied and the draught beer excellent. The food was good and the service perfect. For a UK visitor, the prices were incredibly low. Superb value.More

I am always surprised with the wonderful food in Cape Town….but I truly enjoyed this wonderful little restaurant It is run by a magnificent husband and wife team …the husband in the kitchen making magic on the stove….and the better half in the dining room...describing the food choices and making your mouth drool with anticipation … They also have a wonderful staff of young people to take your order and pour delicious drinks of all sorts The food was simply done but amazingly flavorful It was a grand treat to finish my last day in Cape Town and to celebrate my 62nd birthday Many thanks and I hope to be back before my 63rd birthdayMore

We stumbled upon Miller’s Thumb as it was right next to our hotel in Cape Town. We weren’t sure what to expect, but we were very pleased with our dinner and dining experience. The manager or owner is the one who came to the table...to let us know about the menu. She was very knowledgeable. We had a nice bottle of wine, and then enjoyed a very delicious dinner. My husband had jumbalaya which was good. Mine however was amazing! It was a special of their local line fish, kingklip, with a wasabi mayo sauce. Excellent! Miller’s Thumb has a nice ambience, and it looked as if several locals were also dining here which is a good sign. I highly recommend having dinner here if you are the area!More

This restaurant is a staple in Cape Town. The fish is just the best and the choices fit every diet. If you have never tried kingklip eat it at this place. I love the popcorn instead of bread. The veggies are delicious. If you eat...meat, pasta or vegetarian this place is great. Delicious South African wine.More

We stopped in for dinner along the second night of our 12-day trip through South Africa. We happened to arrive early for our 7:30pm reservation and were welcomed without any issue. Chicken livers were creamy and flavorful. Bouillabaisse-Style Fish soup was a very tasty and...thicker tomato-based soup with chunks of fresh and tender tender fish and crustaceans. Rump Cajun style was pretty good, but a bit chewy at medium-rare. The Elgin South African Pinot noir was light and delicate, yet still had enough flavor to not be boring. Overall, accommodating, attentive, and informative staff with some very tasty food.More

The owner, Jane, remembered me pre-covid. What a lovely woman! It is not aiming for Michelin-Starred status, but this restaurant ticks all of the boxes for a great dining experience. I suggest it is mid-range in price. The service is outstanding. Smiles all around and...it was a pleasure to be there. There is a good variety of dishes to choose and I wish I could have eaten them all. Mine was delicious. Paired with a good wine and i was in heaven. Recommended!More

The food and the atmosphere was really good. You feel like you're in someone's home rather than in a restaurant. The owner Jane is a lovely hostess and makes sure you're well taken care of.

I e-mailed. Lady owner responded but late saying TripAdvisor kept giving e-mail address for reservations despite her saying it should be by phone. She was very nice and i did get a cancellation. Bottom line is use phone.

Quite close. From MQ to main road, turn left, about 200 meters turn right and it takes 10 to 15 minutes easy walk. The guys at MQ will give you a map if you ask them. It’s worth going, it really is
