Called in for a drink and a bite to eat - service was ok and food was ok. Have to say it took ages to actually attract a waiter after sitting down outside despite the fact that there were plenty of staff on!

After a little confusion about our table, which we had pre-booked (or so we thought - given the maître d' had written it in the diary). We had a short wait for a table. The staff were friendly and attentive. The steak was cook to...perfection and the Ginja chicken dish was spicy and delicious. A good waterfront restaurant, not the cheapest but worth the money.More

Last night in Cape Town went for a safe place, a bit of a threat. Location and atmosphere good. Good old fashioned and cocktails. Food so average, if not poor. We not informed of missing dishes. Had slow cooked lamb, fish board and Ginjan chicken....Lamb was a mushy lamb on an insipid brown liquid. Flat bread was doughy, tahini sauce was not something I recognised. Really disappointing. Fish board over salty fish paste, over spicy oysters. All average. Chicken was ok. All in all would not recommend.More

First night in Cape Town and decided to give this restaurant a try and we are so glad we did. The food was excellent as was the wine recommended by our friendly, helpful waiter, Malvin. My husband had the Ginja chicken, and I had the...seafood curry, and both were so tasty, but ask for no fresh chillis if, like us, you don’t like your food to be too spicy. We then finished with the panna cotta….just perfect. If you’re at the V and A Waterfront, you should give this excellent restaurant a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.More

Brilliant atmosphere.. friendly waiters and above all good tasty food. Eating outside is a pleasant experience especially on a warm day as compared to cold wintry months in the US. I had a pleasant experience and will visit again. I lost my cap but it...was recovered by the pleasant management team the next day.More

We have been in South Africa for a week and service has been mixed everywhere we've been. That's not the case here. Josh was brilliant - attentive, fast, everything ordered correctly. All the staff were friendly and provided good service but Josh went above and...beyond. The food was very nice and we'd come back every morning for breakfast if we could.More

We have been to Ginja before for lunch (the food was excellent - prawns) and noticed that they were offering a Sunday brunch with music. Small family group, treated really well with one person not mobile - staff were patient and thoughtful. If you haven’t...been before the venue is lovely (part of a hotel). Staff work hard generally although seem to focus on own tables - which is fine. You need to wait for your waiting staff. The buffet set up for Sunday brunch is excellent, you have a chance to meet the chefs and they are super - informed, describe what is there and show you - happy to mix your selection. The food was excellent everything we tried was delicious as a small group between us we tried most things. The range is excellent! Waiting staff manager was excellent, she checked that we’re happy… we were.More

Just terrible! Attitude from person hosting. Slow service, to the point of having to get up and order again or remind that we hadn’t had service. Food ok but so many better places around. Over R200 for a salad and it was mediocre at best....No check backs on food. When clearing plates no questions were asked why it was half eaten. We finished drinks and then waited for 15 minutes before getting up, finding a waiter to order from again. Tbh we should have just cut losses and left. Requested bill 3 times. Had to eventually get up and ask to pay at the main station, even then the waiter disappeared saying he needed to find a payment machine. Kicking myself that I actually still gave a tip! This place used to be incredibly busy and give amazingly slick, friendly service. This time I came away feeling ripped off and sad feeling that Ginja’s may have had its time as this is the second time in 2 months it’s below parr with other similar sites. Great location does not compensate for terrible service and mediocre food. Complained to the front desk team at the Hotel and they could not be more uninterested in hearing. V&A hotel, do better!More

We had dinner here a Day ago. The chicken didn't taste good. We were convinced that it was actually off. That unfortunately turned out to be true as our daughter became seriously ill now after eating here....

We were looking for a lunch stop on our last day in Cape Town since we couldn't get a table at our usual venue. We chose Ginja simply based on its location & appearance. It's a very smart looking new restaurant with tables overlooking the...water and Table Mountain as a backdrop so pretty hard to beat !! We selected the fish & chips and were delighted with the quality of both the food and the service. They also have an extensive choice of beers, wine, spirits & cocktails. Highly recommended and definitely our new "go to" at the V&A.More
