All right, this place is at the waterfront in Cape Town being one of the busiest tourist spots in southern Africa. So if you don't mind the crowds and inflated price tags, this restaurant offers a reasonable variety of fish and seafood dining in an upmarket atmosphere. We ordered a crispy squid dish as a starter and were not disappointed. The kingklip main with baby spinach was also pretty nice. The sushi dish however looked somewhat awkward with lots of mayo all over the rolls. Service seemed a bit overwhelmed as this place was fully packed on a Sunday evening.

Sevruga is well-located and is just a little more formal than many of the quayside restaurants with white tablecloths and cloth napkins. The receptionist with whom we had booked greeted us in a very welcoming manner as did every member of staff we walked by or had occasion to make a request of. It is a very large restaurant which would perhaps account for the reason that an attempt was made to serve our second courses while we were still finishing our gazpacho and before these plates had been cleared away. The food itself was well-presented and very tasty. I particularly enjoyed one of the daily specials, the tian of prawns with the tempura prawns still crunchy in spite of having been prepare a bit too soon. The wine list is pricey, as is the case with most of the area restaurants, but one of their less expensive wines was delicious. Yes, I would recommend going to this restaurant for a relaxed evening out. We were lucky to be able to watch the full moon rising over the water!

We went in for lunch and shared excellent beef carpaccio, salmon and tuna sashimi - we were very impressed so booked for dinner the next day ( a word of warning this is a very popular place and booking for dinner is essential ). We shared six oysters and both had rack of lamb which was outstanding - cooked pink and melted in the mouth. The bill including 4 glasses of wine and tip was 52 pounds which we thought was great value. Would highly recommend.

We had an evening meal here. The waiter (name withheld) was friendly enough but a bit too pushy about the seafood platter, saying it was not too much food and was highly recommended but I could see it was also very expensive. I felt a bit pressured so ordered it then just a few minutes later I called him back saying could I cancel and order something else as I felt it would be too much food. He said it was already being prepared so no and was a bit surly. Considering it took over half an hour after this to arrive I am sure it could have been cancelled. It cost 1250 Rand for one person. I am not saying the quality was poor but it was way too much food for me - there were two large pieces of kingclip as well as all the other seafood. My husband helped a bit with the kingclip but he was also struggling with his own meal. One piece of kingclip would have been more than enough and a bit less of the other items. I struggled through it because I didn’t want to waste it at that price but started to feel a bit nauseous as it was very rich. My suggestion is to reduce the quantity and the price. I couldn’t order it to share because my husband wouldn’t have liked all the seafood.
The view was nice but service poor. However the actual quality was very good but I just wish I’d been able to order something else. Unfortunately the experience clouded my opinion of the restaurant and I found myself recommending to other people we met not to go there.

We went to Sevruga for Valentine’s Day and what an incredible change with the new owners showing how it’s done.
The manager Glen was absolutely amazing he went above and beyond to make the day special for us he took the time to chat not only to us but to all of his guests and it was clear that he loved what he did and was completely in his element. He was kind and professional to his staff and showed respect and understanding to each one of them( unfortunately not a lot of managers in the hospitality industry posses this skill which makes it even more impressive) our waiter tony was on the ball polite and charming. The food was delicious and filling, the ambiance was just lovely with the music tempo just right and the little buzz coming off the deck creating a nice vibe. What an amazing day thank you team Sevruga for doing such a great job.

Some of the best sushi in Cape Town. The salmon is particularly fresh and delicious. Look out for the weekday half price sushi & cocktails special which runs every day from 12:00 - 17:00.
They also have an extensive wine list with some of SA’s top wines. This is definitely going to become one of or favorites!

Four of us for dinner. Dishes were fillet steak, seafood paste and wife and I shared the sea food platter which was offered at a special price on the evening and contained a spread of two lobsters, grilled calamari, choice of sea bream or cape salmon, prawns, rice, sauce - chef advised via Mandla that he was not happy with the quality of mussels available to him so offered to replace it with our choice of fried calamari. Wish more chefs would follow this approach and rather leave something off the plate than put it on and hope it will pass. Speaking of Mandla, previous reviews formed the basis of selecting this restaurant and Mandla's name featured every so often in those reviews. Can confirm he is on point and is still keeping it going. He added value to our evening. All in all meals, bottle of white wine, bottle of red wine and a suitable gratuity for Mandla to thank him for his part the bill came to R2,500. We thought that was real good value for the quality of food and service.

On the pricier side in terms of what Cape Town has to offer, however you can't beat Sevruga's world class Sushi in terms of freshness and location. Their plates are clean, delicious & consistently executed (on par with Sushi Eateries in Japan in my opinion). Usually go here with mates on weekdays during 12&5pm, as they then offer half price classic sushi plates & cocktails which makes eating at Sevrugas far more reasonable. Booking a table is recommended.

Very disappointing. Had been recommended but did not meet any expectation. We were seated in a far corner and subsequently ignored. Waited forever for everything, from ordering a drink to getting one, from ordering food to getting it. Our main course arrived an hour and a half after we ordered, and only after a manager randomly wandered up to ask how our meal was. We were moments away from walking out and had lost all appetite at that point. Will never go back and would never recommend. Left feeling that it was just another tourist trap that had no interest in its visitors.

When booking we were asked about allergies and intolerances which we advised them of. When we were served ( by a nice young man) we repeated everything about NO butter. My wife's meal was served and we could actually smell the butter! Waiter checked and we were told there had been a mix up. Manager came and told us they'd take it off our bill, which was such an empty gesture as she couldn't eat it!! We had to insist that they remove something from the bill as our meal had been spoiled.

We were recently back in Cape Town on holiday. We felt like dressing up slightly and going to a cosy and slightly romantic dinner. We opted for Sevruga at the V & A Waterfront.
From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and informative. It is quite a pricey restaurant, but it was worth every cent. For starters I had the crispy calamari and my partner had the teriyaki rainbow stack. The calamari was like butter and the sauce that accompanied it worked so well. I don’t enjoy sushi, but my partner said he really enjoyed it. For mains I had the chalmer beef fillet and my partner had the swordfish special. My steak was cooked to absolute perfection, you could cut it with a butter knife. My partner’s fish was cooked perfectly, and the accompanying vegetables were tasty and cooked well.
It was some of the best food we had on our trip and would definitely recommend this place!

We used the restaurant on 24th January and were impressed with the food and service but would have preferred a table for two next to the front window. We then booked a meal on my wife's birthday two days later.
We had a table for two reserved which was partially covered in rose petals and right next to the window.
Our waiter Max greeted us and wished my wife a Happy Birthday. The food and service were superb and my wife was also presented with a special desert which was placed on a plate on which the words "Happy Birthday" had been written in brown chocolate.
The whole experience was leisurely and excellent.

Best restaurant in the V@A. Good service, views and food. Probably should book before hand but can even accommodate you without a booking if it’s not a busy Cape Town night.
You can just tell by how full it is every evening. Mixture of tourists and locals celebrating their afternoon specials into dinner time. We had sushi as starter and the mussels and lamb shank as mains - the owner came around when served and sent back the mussels as it wasn’t cooked to his liking. What a meal! Finished off with pannacotta and fondue cake for dessert.
Great wine and cocktail list. Definitely a date night or place for celebration. Definitely deserves good rating from us. Even just a proper dinner for one.

Four of us are at the end of three weeks in South Africa and regrettably this was the worst meal of our trip. Having read the reviews, it could be we should have gone for sushi! Staff lovely, situation ideal. Very busy but to wait one hour from ordering to when main course arrived is rather a long time. Two of us had fillet steak, which was perfectly cooked - but the sauce was extremely salty and very intense. So much so, neither of us could finish the dish. Found once before that there appears to provide intense sauces in the quality of gravy. One ordered the line fish, it was dried out and the manager did remove this from the bill. One ordered Gnocchi, but again found the accompanying sauce at odds with the dish. Very popular place, so perhaps we were unfortunate, but watch out for those sauces.

After cancelling a Camps Bay restaurant because of illness we went last minute to Sevruga on the waterfront which we had passed on a previous evening and thought it looked lovely. We managed to get a table after a short 30min wait and were so please as it lived up to our expectations. Eating late as it was close to 9 to 9-15 we ate lightly with Carpaccio of beef ( delicious and the best for a long time). Salmon / trout was delicious and the piece of Salmon I had was fantastic. We all agreed this was the best food we had eaten on the Waterfront.
We would certainly recommend Sevruga to all. The team at reception desk were excellent and ensured we had our table even though they seemed booked.
The servers were all bright and cheerful and were engaging and we enjoyed the whole evening.
