About
Here at the greek fisherman, we are proud of our roots, so expect traditional greek and mediterranean dishes. But, we also believe in moving with the times, so we've added a modern twist to our otherwise classic menu. Our cuisine includes greek & seafood specialities and we are famous for our greek meze, our souvla (spit roast) and our stunning lamb in the oven. Choose from over 20 meze, starters and tapas! Established in 1992, the greek fisherman is one of the original restaurants in the v&a waterfront and is still owned by the same owners as when the victoria wharf, waterfront opened in 1992. Take a seat and get a glorious view of table mountain while you enjoy delicious seafood and meats grilled over open charcoals.

I first visited this restaurant just after new year and everything was fantastic. It was made by the host or person in charge who orchestrated great service and food was excellent with good wine and well priced. Then I took friends back (8 of us) on Thursday 9th January and it was not very good. It wasn’t that busy but different host seemed stressed and miserable and service was poor and chaotic. Food was good quality but we got 7 meals and finished before 8th turned up. Poured our own wine had to chase for everything . Had this been my first visit would not have returned.

We are incredibly disappointed to read that your 2nd visit was not as impressive as the previous. We will most definitely review camera footage to see what went wrong on the day. We humbly apologise for your disappointing experience.
Would you be so kind as to mail me some more information, if you have. info@greekfisherman.co.za

This place is amazing. From the service to the quality of food and efficiency I really can not find fault. The fillet steak was so tender we could have cut it with a spoon.
Friendly staff and spotlessly clean. We will be returning before we leave Cape Town.

Having a fantastic location with views to die for definitely adds to the experience.
The prawn starter was great served with really delicious rice.
The Haloumi starter with their quince jelly was just tooooo yummy
A party of 4 adults and two children as well as a toddler this was a perfect venue
They cater for vegetarians and vegans!
Their food is wholesome food quality and obviously Greek.
And of course their baklava is heavenly... try a bit of ouzo on a hot day...
Probably best to book especially in season over the festive period.

For what they charge the food should be memorable at least, but I wasn’t impressed at all. You’re paying 5 star prices, but the food quality doesn’t batch the bill. For 3 of us, the bill came to R1000 and we had a light lunch (all of us had the mug of prawns) that was hardly filling, and average in quality, very oily, and not nearly as nice as the same meal I get from my local Chinese restaurant (they also do a deep fried prawn) whose prawns are more meaty and more flavorful. Also we had the trio of dips and bread platter - the breads were nice, and the dips were nice but for the price I expected more. I found myself adding salt to the bread. I had the chocolate baklava and Greek coffee for dessert - these we’re really good, but again highly overpriced. R100 for 2 small baklava is excessive. The medium Greek coffee wasn’t good either. I’d certainly give this place a miss and rather go to the one just down the stairs next time.

Dear Reviewer
Thank you for your review. We are disappointed to read that you have had a negative experience at our restaurant. As you can see from the majority of our reviews, we are highly recommended by guests and we have received numerous top international awards for the quality of our food.
Our price points are most definitely very good for the V&A Waterfront and it is sad to read that you felt we were too expensive. Perhaps eating at several other places in Cape Town, you would see that our prices are very reasonable.
Thanks for the feedback.
Kind Regards

This is such a great unique location for summer breakfasts/brunch. We went here shortly after it opened hoping to find an alternative to the excellent choices nearby.
How the owners can spend money on a restaurant set up but fail to think of the delivery is shocking.
The service is very poor and the food was less than ordinary. This was such an uninspiring visit. The coffee summed it up. Luke warm and weak in a small cup!
A message to the owners, please just visit Jarryds, klinkseys,Mishu,Zest or Naked to see how to run a restaurant.
To sum it up the energy level from the staff was a tiny fraction of the restaurants above. I hope you listen and change. Otherwise it is only the restaurant fitters that will benefit from your opening.

BEST greek ( kleftiko) lamb in town !
Moving from its iconic position in the V&A Waterfront to a cosy, welcoming restaurant/ house on Sea Points vibey Main Rd has done nothing to detract from the delicious food and excellent service.
I loved the inner courtyard ( perfect on a balmy summer night) or hot summer day.
We sat upstairs in a modern and cheerful room , as it was a nippy autumn day outside.
Our waiter immedietely lit a fireplace making our lunch cosy and welcoming ( wonderful attention to detail)
The menu was diverse , lots for vegetarians aswell as meat lovers and everyone at our table found their meal delicious. Gyro, kleftiko and calamari.
Definitely ticked all my boxes

The restaurant is conveniently located on the upper level of the V & A Waterfront Mall. The food was very good and the service was also good. The food did take some time to arrive but this is understandable considering that this was an extremely busy week-end with the Federer/Nadal charity tournament. The ambiance was good and the restaurant is tastefully decorated.

The restaurant is about 4km/2.5 miles from the city centre of Cape Town.
I'm actually in a bit of a quandry as to what to say.
The first time we went there was for lunch and the 5 of us ordered differing types of Yiro.
Three of my friends said their food was good, and the other one said hers was ok.
I ordered a lamb Yiro as did one of my guests who said hers was good.
Mine was terrible, but I persevered thinking if all the others said theirs were good, perhaps I was just being pickey, I really wasn't. It was dry and tasteless.
I decided to go again remembering how good the food was when they were at the waterfront, and hoping that it was just an aberation.
Unfortunately my meal, was again terrible.
Two of us ordered seared salmon.
Obviously the chef did not have a clue what seared meant and presented us with salmon that would have been great if served as sushi.
We asked the waiter/waitron/server to please ask the chef to actually sear it.
It came back cooked.
We ate it anyway.
There were 10 of us at the dinner and 6 said their food was great.
So perhaps it's just me.

My family and I went there for New Years Eve and it's was amazing!!! The Greek dj, very quickly, got us all dancing and braking plates . We even had a fire going on the dancefloor. There was a marquee around the courtyard and it was decorated with beautiful fairy lights and balloons. Everybody was in such high spirits dancing the year away.
There was a set menu, 3 dips, pita and peasant bread and greek salad which was already on the table when we arrived . We then had avocado Ritz which was delicious and then you could choose between fillet with mushroom sauce or kinglip for main. I had the kingklip and can honestly say I could smell the sea it was so fresh and cooked to perfection. We then got a platter variety of assorted dessert baklava yogurt, honey and nuts to name a few. Eddy our waiter was efficient and pleasant. Overall an amazing way to start the New Year and was definitely worth every cent. With such overall excellence on such a busy night im sure it has to be just as good on a normal night.

We ordered calamari which looked like mopani worms, small and dried out. The prawn souvlaki dish was bad and inconsistent as 2 people at the same table ordered it and looked completely different.
I got the wrong order which had to be sent back and the pitas was stale.

I ate lunch today at The Greek Fisherman and was terribly disappointed. I always look for a positive in any situation and I suppose that there was one, that of the friendly open faced hostess. That’s where it stopped. My waiter was clearly very unaware of what was required of him. He kept interrupting me with inappropriate questions and irrelevant information. The food was a major letdown. My kob/kabeljou which is a very forgiving fish to grill, was way overcooked, dry and actually had formed a tough crust on the outside. The Greek salad had clearly been assembled hours ago and the tomato was almost disintegrating. The beauty of such a salad is its simplicity and freshness. I was recommended a side of Spanakorizo which in Greece is true comfort food. It wasn’t nice and hadn’t the obligatory garlic either.
I hadn’t yet finished eating when I was asked if I would like some coffee!
During the plates being cleared I was questioned whether I was full!?
For the standard of the food I thought that R275 for a medium piece of kob and some rice mixed with spinach a little excessive.
I’m not sure that I would return also because (and not the fault of the restaurant) of the incessant traffic noise coming from Sea Point Regent Road.
Pity because on first sight the menu looked really good.

Delicious starter of warm pitta bread with trio of dips - tzatziki, hummus & taramasalata to share. I had lamb on the bone with lemon roast potatoes - the lamb was cooked to perfection & simply dropped of the bone. My wife had chicken souvlaki with spinach rice & chips which was delicious too.

Lovely ambiance and great location in Sea Point. Good choice for vegetarians and the platter allows you to sample their food on one plate. Great fire - we went in the winter and both meat and vege food was nicely plated. Good choice for families too.

We enjoyed sitting outdoors in the lovely courtyard enjoying perfectly prepared beef souvlaki and perfectly grilled lamb chops. We enjoyed chatting with the kitchen manager who circulated amongst the guests.
Our server, Mondli was efficient, friendly and knowledgeable about the items on the menu. We learned his name means taking care of people in Zulu and he sure took good care of us. In all, a fabulous experience.

I was in CT for a week and returned to The Greek Fisherman on 3 occasions. Once for lunch in the most beautiful courtyard and twice for dinner. Their beautiful new venue is only surpassed by the brilliance that comes from the kitchen. The calamari ,both grilled and fried is exceptional. I also ordered the slow cooked Greek lamb and grilled lamb chops. Both were tender and filled with the traditional flavours of Greece. Not to be missed! Finally, don’t miss out on the awesome tzatziki , salad and saganaki starters.
