The restaurant is separated from the magnificent white sand beach of Camps Bay, by the busy main road. This creates a vibey atmosphere. The restaurant front is completely open with a patio under umbrellas to beat off the sun. We made a reservation for dinner, which was not necessary during the week as they were near empty. The service was not of a high quality and requires improvement. Our waiter, we could only see dead expressions on the waiters’ face, boarding on rude. Just before the meal is brought to the table, the waiter brings hot plates and a frame holder for the dishes with a tea light candle to keep warm. Sadly, to time lapse between receiving the hot plate and food arriving was long enough for the plates to cool completely. When the food arrived, the waiter ‘dumped’ the food into the frame for the dish, tipping the dish to dangerously spilling onto the table. The quality of food is fair and tasty, with a hefty price tag. The staff were preparing for a large group reservation. Unfortunately, the dragging of 12 tables and dragging of 25 chairs across the tiles, made the experience unpleasant. The high pitch grating sound of the furniture dragging across the tiles for 30 minutes was hard to enjoy of dinner.

We ordered palak paneer, butter chicken, plain and butter naan. The naan was very good. The mains tasted good but the quality of paneer was poor. the texture was elastic. One can find better quality of paneer in cape town and for an indian restaurant, the quality is unacceptable. Prices are compatible with other restaurants in camps bay but the portions are good. Our waitron seemed disinterested at the beginning of the evening and did not bother to bring the papad. We had to ask for it at the end. Supposedly it was a busy night. The drinks menu is below average for the strip. Have drinks elsewhere and just go for dinner.

Used to be our favourite curry in Cape Town. After spending R400 for 2 curries and 2 naan breads (a really special treat) we were left sorely disappointed. The portions were tiny and the food was so bland we ended up throwing it out. Even after salt and chilli from the fridge, nothing could salvage it. We are so gutted to have spent this much money on such disappointing curry.

What great place this turned out to be. Saturday night a few beers and a curry, just like at home. Read the reviews and went along. The staff were really helpful on how the spices and chilli content may differ from the UK. Had the onion pakora to start very nice, served with a vivid green sauce, couldn’t work out what it was supposed to be but still very nice. Had the chicken and prawns for main to a medium strength and they gave me some extra hot sauce in case it wasn’t hot enough for me. In the end it was perfect. Light fluffy rice, thin and tasty breads, good sauce. There was a good selection beer and wine. All in all a real good curry with very pleasant and helpful staff.

During our few hours in Camps Bay, we fancied some spicy type food and called into this restaurant for lunch. It wasn’t that busy and whilst we weren’t into having a heavy lunch, we decided to go with an assortment of starters and side dishes which turned out to be perfect for that time of day. Gentleman with a pony tail spent some time talking with us and even suggested a couple of other restaurants in the area we were staying in Bantry Bay, a couple of miles away. ( Thanks for your advice ) if and when we are in Camps Bay we will definitely call in this time for dinner. Large dining area with open views of the beach area and great for ‘people watching ‘.

A family get together for Diwali was ruined by the food that was so sub-standard, we could hardly believe the chef was sending this out to tables. Nevermind that there was no special Diwali set menu! The lamb madras was a pale yellow colour and when questioned about it, the kitchen insisted it was the correct dish and that's how they serve it. We changed it for a lamb rogan josh and this was even more bizarre, as it was dark orange, tasted like a butternut puree sauce. Was the restaurant out of tomatoes last night? We couldn't tell apart the paneer dish from the butter chicken as they looked and tasted the same. Rubbery chicken and paneer in the same dull sauce. The garden salad left a lot to be desired - big chunks of carrot, cucumber and onion with a few sparse lettuce leaves!! Service was poor, waited a long time for food and drinks and even longer for the bill, which when it arrived had extra items on it that wasn't ordered. You'd think a restaurant like this would be on top of their game given the lockdown and losing business. Recent negative reviews seem justified after our experience. Will give this one a miss.

This is a great restaurant. Amazing location and the food was extremely good. Great quality ingredients and the flavours were extremely distinct and diverse. The service was solid and our server was able to answer all of our questions. As someone with a nut allergy they made me feel completely confident which is always great.

This is nice Indian Restaurant with typical Indian food. For the first time this one was able to cater for children with less spicy food. The price are reasonable Camps Bay price. They presentation of food was phenomenal. The curry gets delivered and presented in a nice contain lid to keep it warm. I order Chicken Tikka Masala with Rice and added Nan and Rotis on the side very tasty. Only drawback is the parking which is expensive for this mall and the public toilet you pay 2 to use them. Else all was great

Being someone whose preferred dish is Indian, the Raj is in a great location just off the beach, but the service is a bit de-synchronized. All the food came at the same time (appetizers and main meal). Final bill did not reflect the meal served, as 2nd drink order never arrived, but was on the bill. Lots of potential for four stars. Food was good (copious).

Worst restaurant experience. Waited over 20 mins to speak to the manager who never showed up so here I am leaving a review The food was decent but not worth the pathetic service. We asked for some poppadoms for the table was told they don’t have fine acceptable, however I see a table next to me 30 mins later with poppadoms. Our curries were served with no Bunsen burners like everyone else was just left on the table to get cold, also after getting the incorrect curries Definitely worst experience ever at a restaurant we were basically ignored for most of the night and had to even wait 30 mins for something as basic as water

Authentic Indian cuisine and very reasonably priced in Camps Bay. Well worth a visit on the famous Camps Bay strip. Waiter very knowledgeable about Indian flavors and our dishes were really delicious. Last time we experienced as authentic as this was at Montecassino in Jhb

Due to its convenient location, I decided to give the Raj another try after a previous disappointment. Sadly nothing has changed since the last time: Food: the papadums seem half-cooked (ie. hard) in texture, yet look dark/overdone and the flavourless condiments are served in little table-spooned size dishes; the dahl is under-seasoned and therefore dull; prawn masala lacks flavour with uninteresting spices; saffron pilau rice looks and tastes artificial. Staff: highly disinterested in engaging with customers and a hierarchy that requires a junior 'kitchen runner' to serve and clear tables so that the waiters can stand around. Ambience: poor lighting, decor and combined with the above make for a dreary dining experience, in spite of a splendid location. This explains why the place is usually empty (adding further to the lifeless atmosphere when all neighbouring places are buzzing). There is no reason to go to this restaurant when there are far better alternatives nearby in Sea Point and Tamboerskloof. I won't be returning.

We were in the mood for Indian and having been to many places in Indian and the best curry houses in Britain... this is hand in hand with them. The only pointer I would say, I ordered a medium to hot Madras and the level of spicy was more of a Balti, BUT every single dish tasted delicious! Service was very attentive as well.

We went to the Raj at V and A waterfront Cape Town. My curry was very salty and was in edible had to send it back , waiter came n took Nan n curry back offered me a take out curry or a desert… which was useless to me Manager did not even come out charged full price, I told waiter I don’t want to pay for the curry he says he would have to pay for it if I don’t pay for it not sure this was the truth Our last night in CT ruined avoid this restaurant Food was bad not fresh and literally inedible . Generally food is so good in other restaurants in v n a waterfront. Manager not interested in comming out Even to see me I did ask for him but he was cashing up apparently.
