The Codfather is set one street back from the water front at Camps Bay… so don’t go thinking you will be admiring the views of the beach, however, the seafood is quite good and freshly cooked with the Cajun spices and accompanied with various sauces;...wedges; rice and vegetables. Service is extremely quick. The restaurant itself is a little tired. But the waiters are friendly. Just a note if you’re booking through Dineplan, make sure you tell the waiters about your deposit when you get the bill.More

I had dinner here with my wife and our 7-year-old daughter. They only take dinner reservations for 6:30 p.m. during the peak season, and we arrived about an hour later than planned due to our late departure from the Cape of Good Hope and a...harrowing nighttime drive in the rain along Chapman's Peak. We called ahead and were told that it would not be a problem. We were given a table right across the display of seafood. We had squid, kingklip white fish, tuna, Argentinian prawns and three plates of sushi, two Coke Zeros and cranberry juice for a total of R1,272.28 or about EUR 63. As recommended by other reviewers, we requested that the cajun spice not be sprinkled on all the seafood to avoid their all tasting the same. We just requested for some cajun spice on the side, and various sauces are provided, including peri-peri and lemon butter. The seafood were all fresh. Without the cajun spice, the seafood was rather bland but we still enjoyed as we could savor their freshness and add whichever sauce we fancied. Just don't expect any creative dishes. All the fish is "grilled", and by "grilled" they do not mean charcoal-grilled but just fried. The seafood would have been much more tastier if they used a charcoal grill. We were rather apprehensive about eating fresh sushi in South Africa, but our enjoying this meal unscathed bears testament to the freshness of their seafood.More

Exceptional! Not cheap but what a quality and choice of perfectly prepared seafood food!! Lobster, shrimp, local specialities seafood 🦞 🦐 etc. All combined with excellent whine and top service! Next time Cape Town we will definitely go again (more than once).

Lovely concept - no menu fish market - you go up and choose your fresh fish and they cook and bring it to you. Very good quality and very well priced. Also had a local sav blanc which was fab! Was a little surprised how...far away fish came from - Argentina, Zimbabwe, Mozambique etc we stuck with local - tuna was amazing. Felt a little rushed as service so quick - almost fast food but a great atmosphereMore

Absolutely superb restaurant in the heart of Camps Bay serving Fresh Fish and sushi. We visited twice in our ten day stay, and the choice of fresh fish and shellfish available on each occasion was extensive. The Codfather also has a real buzz, and the...service provided by the charming and knowledgeable staff was faultless.More

This is the best fish we had while visiting Cape Town. There is an interesting but limited rotating sushi bar. One chooses your own fish and everything is fresh. Vegetables could be more varied. Would recommend the wine cellar space for a quieter more private...setting.More

Well worth the hype. Fresh seafood and fish cooked to order. The place was insanely busy and the waiters work manically hard but the food was very very good. My wife isn't a big seafood lover but there was plenty of fish options for her...and it was all very tasty!More

A very busy restaurant - popular with tourists. A place to go if you fancy fresh fish & seafood Pros: - good service even though at times a bit chaotic and rushed - fresh fish & seafood / nice selection available - a nice view...over the ocean from many (but not all) tables Cons, if one chooses to be very picky (so not really relevant): - service at times a bit rushed as they are very busy - the outside terrace feels rather cramped - some sorts of fish (not all) & prawns were served a little bit too dry / overcookedMore

We looked this up on Tripadvisor and it didn’t disappoint. Wonderful choice of fresh fish ( we had Kingklip) which was so fresh and beautifully cooked. Service was amazing. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Worth turning the corner from the main restaurants overlooking the sea...to get such amazing food.More

Fantastic seafood and fish that you choose at the counter like at a fish market and paid by weight Very good service and friendly staff and a good selection of wine. We appreciated it so much that we were there two days in a row!...Next time we come to Cape Town we will definitely come back again!More

The Codfather is so busy, brushing past people trying to get to the toilet and people waiting for tables standing in any spare space. The concept is a fish market, where you choose the fish/how much/how you want it cooked from a counter and then...they bring it on a sharing platter with chips/rice/veg. We didn’t get a choice in the sides which was disappointing, as we would have chosen something else. The fish was lovely and cooked perfectly. The logistics of getting taken to your table, going up to the counter, back to the table is a bit cumbersome. We put jackets on the back of seats, bags under the table etc and then had to collect it again to go back to the fish counter. I think it would be easier to do this prior to being seated, as it would also give guests time to discuss/choose what they want rather than right on the spot with other people waiting behind them. It felt a bit rushed for us. It was a lovely meal, but we wouldn’t return.More

Codfather was well recommended to us. Oodles of fish choices to pick fresh and cooked to order, sushi starters, buzzy restaurant etc. It was all that but we left unimpressed. Fish and sushi offered plenty of choice and were well cooked, they excel at this...but… The meal felt rushed, there were inconsistencies (one portion of chips undercooked, the other overcooked), service seemed mostly concerned with making sure we were in and out quickly, dessert choices cheap and nasty. Its a noisy popular restaurant with folk coming in all the time, its seems like a local favourite and I’m sure that many come back over and over again - we won’t be, we just didn’t get the codfather vibe when we compare it to many of the other fabulous eateries we’ve enjoyed on the cape.More

We had our final dinner during our stay in Cape Town at Codfathers. It was a lovely goodbye to a wonderful city. The food was excellent and Faith and Aaron, our servers, were delightful. The food was excellent and we were able to order exactly...the right amount. Highly recommend this restaurant for the food, the atmosphere, and the great staff.More

Trevor and Barnet were truly excellent. The quality of the fish and the preparation were superb. I like the fact that they show you the prices of the different weighed items before they are cooked. That way, there is a chance to change it should...one want to. For couples , it's far nicer to eat in the wine cellar, as upstairs is much louder.More

A wonderful meal of excellent sushi followed by an outstanding platter of fish freshly selected from the counter. The service complemented the food, with nothing too much trouble for attentive staff. If you are anywhere near and like fish then this restaurant is a must.
