Picasso’s Mexican Taqueria became a reality in White River, South Africa, in 2014. Inspired and modelled on Stratos and Debbie Perakis’ Picasso On The Beach, located in Naxos, Greece, two families joined forces to bring Picasso’s to life in South Africa – the Perakis from Naxos & John & Lyn Davis, who have been visiting Naxos for 20 years and enjoying Picasso’s extraordinary Mexican food for 18 years. Picasso’s Mexican Taqueria offers freshly made Mexican food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, while you sit back and sip our famous Margaritas.

Very good food. Very cool surrounding, the place is alive with nice music and decorations.
They have a crazy tequila menu and a nice cocktail menu.
Tapas, Mexican food, everything was great
Little bad point : we booked a table because it was a busy night and they choose the worst table to be reserved.

Situated in at the Bagdad Centre in White River, this hidden gem offers a visitor a true siesta with their authentic décor and laid-back atmosphere.
We were warmly greeted and served during our visit by the friendly waiters and manager.
To make our Mexican treat more authentic we selected to share an Enchilada and a Chimichanga.
The Quesadilla (filled flour tortilla, covered in cheese and baked) was filled with a scrumptious slow cooked beef, prepared in a beautifully spicy chipotle sauce, which was delicious. This was served with tasty Mexican rice and sour cream.
The Chimichanga (filled flour tortilla and deep fried) was golden and crispy as per the menu’s promise. However, the filling of Pulled Chicken lacked flavour and seasoning. The accompaniment of sour cream & salsa was the highlight of this dish being spicy and fresh (especially the salsa with its chipotle seasoning and the coleslaw with the added smoked paprika).
A definite visit when you are in White River and craving something exotic and different.

This is a must for me if I am in the White River area this is a Mexican restaurant that is based on a restaurant in Greece. The one in Greece is not Mexican but Greek food We had chimi chicken and chilii con carne. Also Margarita. Thoroughly recommended read my report on Picasso's in naxo

We were served off the shelf white wine which was not cold. Ordered chicken wings basket and chicken wings were too crispy and over cooked. Onion rings and fries were over done and cold. Asked for fresh fries and they came 15 minutes late and were rubbery and over done. Couldn't eat them. Will come back again to try chicken espatada an
d give Piccaso at White River one more chance as this was my first experience since they opened after my last visit at White River in June 2024. I hope my next visit would be better.

Friends had recommended Picasso and we were keen to try for a special occasion. We had an initial very friendly greeting! But unfortunately we did not have a great experience after this. The menu offers local beers, but when we enquired about these it took 2 trips back and forward to the bar from the waitress, only to be told they only sell Castle Lite. Then we ordered the food, which sounded lovely. Only half the meal arrived. We started on this and the food we ate was very tasty. After we finished everything and no one had come to check on us, we called the waitress over and asked for the rest of the food. Nothing came out and no explaination. We finally got up and asked the manager to check. She went to the kitchen, but again neither waitress nor manager came to report back. Finally the waitress asked if they should ‘continue’ making the food… but as we had been there for an hour and a half we declined.
The bill was brought to us without explainaition, apology or even the manager coming to check if we were ok. We were very disappointed by the experience, especially as it was supposed to be a special day. Accidents happen, but there is no excuse for poor service and no apology.

Hi, I am so sorry about your “poor experience “ at Picasso’s. We are looking into it and would like to give you feedback once we have more information. Which day and what time were you at Picasso’s? Did you sit inside, on the patio or under the trees? It would be good to know the waiters name, however I do understand if you would prefer not to mention her name. This was a family outing, after reading some good reviews we thought it would be a great place to go to.
The ambience of the place is extremely relaxed and there is also a beach vibe across the restaurant.
We are a family which eats only chicken, fish and mutton. There was chicken dishes and we decided to try the Tacos, Nachos and Quesidilla. The nachos were great and the chips were definately fresh! However we found the that the chicken used in all 3 meals were the same cubed pieces, there was no difference. This basically meant that we had the same chicken 3 different ways.
I would suggest that the restaurant have flavours (hot, mild, medium). Also the chicken would be better if they had coated it in a sauce or have different seasoning for the chicken.
Unfortunately we were a bit dissapointed at the place.

My husband and I happened upon the incredible Picassos as we were pottering around the town of white river. We were initially going to get take away food for lunch..but given the ambience.. We ended up indulging in the most divine lime frozen Margheritas (a must in my opinion) a delicious Mexican salad (that is served in a taco bowl), pan fried calamari and squid heads. Everything was so delicious and so well presented. We have been back for the next two days. And we have yet to be disappointed. We were served each time by the most amazing waiter, Regis. My suggestion... Ask for Regis when you get here!

Well situated, child friendly restaurant with a great ambiance under massive umSisi trees at the Bagdad Centre just minutes from the centre of White River. The menu and staff never disappoint. Please always keep your gluten-free options well stocked. See you soon!

Wasn't sure what to expect for a Mexican place in White River, but was pleasantly surprised. Outside bar area across the parking lot had live music and great view for sundowners. Tacos had lots of meat and guacamole, but not much else. Some random non-mexican stuff on the menu

We went for a late lunch and ended up there for dinner as well. Sat in the outside section amongst the fire pits listening to live music. Ambience and food was really good. During our stay, we went to a few places and this was the best, in our opinion. the only reason I didn't give an excellent rating is that the service was on the slow side and when it got busy, we waited. It was the weekend of the big rugby game so maybe they were caught unawares.

We stayed at Kruger Park Lodge, but had on a previous occasion stayed in Whiteriver and loved Picasso’s. So we decided to drive for another great experience. Staff always very friendly and helpful. Ambiance great, outside under the trees. Food great. Worth the drive🌟
