We visited the pub early afternoon for a refreshing cider and beer and found the atmosphere inviting and cozy. After an overwhelmingly so trip down memory lane we decided to return to The Vine & Johnny 's Pub to discuss all we saw and learnt. Good wine, friendly service, two visits from the owner himself and a lovely dinner later... More

The Vine is about the only place left worth visiting the once famous tourist trap of Pilgrims Rest. You would think that a national monument would excite the government authorities to make an effort to attract tourism income. But no. It is so stuck with political ideology that no investment has taken place and hence most of the once famous... More

Manager John provides a kindly step back into history in this old gold mining region. Memorabilia and more than a century of spirits makes this place intimate and enjoyable. A welcoming beer at the bar allowed guests to settle in and have time to review the modest menu that offers regional fare that must date back to the foundations. Most... More

We'd given up on Pilgrims Rest, but thought we'd give it one last bash on the way back to Mount Sheba. Downtown is away from the noisy tourist busses and plenty of safe parking. Pleasant outdoor seating as well as indoors. Antique furniture with beautiful pashminas on every table. A good variety of local fair, from burgers to babootie. We... More

We were welcomed by Paul. Very pleasant. Rene advised us on the favorite dishes. I had the oxtail and samp. Excellent. My hubby was very happy with the chicken curry. Quaint little pub inside as well. Will definitely be back!

After a few pit stops in and around Graskop, we were advised to stop at the Vine. We were welcomed by the Manager Johhny and his friendly wife and later their pleasant son who was the barman. The atmosphere is great and we decided to have lunch. We tried the Trout, boboti and Steak sandwich and all three dishes were... More

Visited for lunch, friendly welcome, extensive menu, we ate excellent freshly cooked hake and bobotie. Sadly we were the only people in the pub and we were very unimpressed with the rest of the town - see separate review.

Not all restaurants can cater for a group of 40 hungry students. The Vine restaurant and it's super friendly staff managed to make us feel welcome and we loved the food! Will go back again!
