We visited Sophies a few months ago. What a pleasant surprize. Great fresh food, good selection of wines and good service. The prawn is really worth it.

Not a good experience, we felt forced by the waiter to give him tips (even if we wanted to give something)!

Sophie's offers a fantastic menu, what makes it so special is the fusion of South African and Mozambican flavours. The prawns are the real deal, with a taste of the sea, juicy flesh and very reasonably priced. The deck is a great setting for a...long memorable lunch with family and friends. It is a little gem for Nelspruit and the flexibility they exercise on corkage contributes to a great experience and a reasonably priced scrumptious food experience.More

We heard from friends that however the food is on the pricey side. It's worth it. So yesterday (Friday 28th December 18h00) we went there with great expectations. We were greeted friendly at the door and ushered inside. As we sat down the waiters dumped...some menu's and a wine list on the table and waited for us to order. The three of us, my husband, a friend and myself love seafood. With that we also drink a lot of Sauvignon Blanc. They had a selection of five or seven brands on their list. After we ordered a reasonable tasting wine from the totally over priced wine list. One of the waiters, went of to fetch. That's when we glanced through the menu that mostly consisted of Portuguese meals. We decided on the prawns which were also totally overpriced. But we were hungry and had heard that it was good. Then the waiter returned with two bottles of wine. The most expensive on the list! Claiming that is the only brands left. Knowing our wine and also what a fair price should be. And also knowing that we will probably have a bottle each when the food and the company is good. I simply just weren't impressed at all and not prepared to pay that price. They were basically forcing you to buy their most expensive wine due to unavailability. That is simply, strait forward bad management! We are locals and know that the stores and main liquor suppliers were open all day. This little place is situated on the main road to Nelspruit. That's exactly how they rip off the tourists. Not having a choice but to pay that extreme prices. There is just no excuse whatsoever for not being fully stocked at 18h00 on functional day.More

Pulled over here whilst traveling SA because it looked lovely from the outside and was busy, which usually means it’s good. The food was absolutely horrific with no nutritional value. It was inedible, but we cracked on because we were hungry. The food had clearly...all been defrosted then deep fried. The ‘Mozambique chicken’ was simply breaded chicken with desiccated coconut sprinkled on top. My wife’s veggie burger, well we still don’t understand what it was... the largest and cheapest white bun we have ever seen in our lives with lashings of mayonnaise and cheap cheese. It’s like they have gone into a supermarket and bought the cheapest produce they could find. Bigger does not mean better, it should be quality not quantity. They gave us toffees with our bill and the owner then proceeded to give us ginger biscuits from a jar as we walked out, how much grease and sugar can one person eat?! Felt like I needed an oil change afterwards....... So we had a right laugh but unfortunately we would advise against stopping unless absolutely necessary.More
