With or without the egg it was a great steak! When the staff advises you against some cuts of meat still not ready you know the lace is passionate about their steaks. My husband and I both had the sirloin with thick cut chips. Everything was done to perfection, and we didn’t wait long.

Amazing place, bad service

We went on a recommendation, what a surprise, its like visiting your Auntie's house, the food was magic, the evening was spoiled by being ignored by the waiter, we tried to get his attention on so many occasions but to no avail, we were not the only people. It started with him seating us and then we waited 30 min for a menu, when we asked him, he was rude, after that we were just ignored by him while he was having 20 minute conversations with the table next to us. Not good for this lovely little place with exceptional food.

The BEST steak of my life

I am hard to please. I love my food and genuinely interested in cooking. I was blown away with my fillet steak and actually asked how on earth they had done it! They said that they only buy from one source and the meat is aged for 8 weeks. So. If you want a simple menu, consistency of perfection across all meats, please book ahead. This place is understandably popular. 12/10 well done. X

Incredibly bad rump steak

We visited Joplins Steak Bar today because of the many positive reviews here and the recommendation from our friends. We had already booked from Germany with 4 weeks' notice. We were all the more disappointed when we were offered the "cat table" even though there were plenty of free tables. The next table offered was no better until we were finally assigned a suitable table. The menu was quickly presented to us and less than 10 minutes later we had our two steaks in front of us. My wife's fillet steak was quite good, but it shouldn't have been on the grill for a second longer. However, my 300g rump steak was an absolute disgrace. The cut was completely different in thickness and the meat was streaked with tendons in two places. That's not what a rump steak looks like and the waitress later said that they sometimes had problems with the cut (is that even possible and in a steak bar??). That was the worst rump steak I've eaten in the last 20 years! I'm never going to Joplins again!!

Best steaks in the Garden Route!!!

This is now the 6th time in a row that the steaks have been cooked to perfection. This in itself is a massive achievement. The Chef has a knack for knowing his cuts of meat hats off to him. His grilling is top notch. By far the best steak house in the Garden Route area and well priced.

Service very bad. After a good 30 min I got up to fetch the menu. Had to call another waiter for drink order. Standard of meat not as good as normally. Female waiter very impolite when I questioned the second batch of pepper sauce that was very liquid and diluted. Not the same as we are used to.

Most unique restaurant, what a find. Any visitor to the area must experience the service, and most of all the fantastic meat dishes. The menu is beautiful in its simplicity. Booking necessary as the full house on a Tuesday evening showed us.

This unassuming little restaurant hidden between the bushes is an absolute jewel... You will not easely find a better steak in a 100 km radius. Unpretentious, to the point but the best possible steak available.. I have yet to have a bad meal here and I have been visiting them for many years.. The owner and his son personally prepares the meat and it is to perfection.. You will not be disappointed..

Disappointing Quality of Steak

We've been to this restaurant a few times and it was good. This time we came for my birthday and we both had the worst steaks of our life. My sirloin which I requested to have the fat cut away had 30% fat, was tasteless and sinewy, and my partners fillet steak was bland and tasteless. Not even the addition of their sauce made much of a difference. Hugely disappointed and won't go back.

An all-round fantastic experience

Let's deal with the elephant in the room ... There is none! Nor is there any sheep, lamb, pig, chicken, tuna, squid ... the list goes on. To say that the menu is limited may be an understatement, but then this is a STEAK bar. On offer are 6 (or 7, I don't recall) cuts of steak and, for the non-steak eaters, a quiche. That's it! Well, there's dessert as well. So, if you're not keen for some steak, then this is not the place for you. If, however, you're looking for the best steak this side of Texas, then this is the ONLY place to be! But let's start at the beginning: When I walk into a restaurant and I'm greeted as if I'm a long-lost friend returning to the fold, I know it's going to be a good meal. The thing is that I didn't feel as if I was visiting a restaurant but rather, a friends home where they happen to serve fantastic food. The atmosphere was warm, inviting and somehow intimate. There's great music playing in the background that sets the mood perfectly and you're treated like family by all present. Now to the food. The fact that the menu is limited to steak means that they have the opportunity to perfect their craft and, in my case, they certainly have! My Ribeye was done EXACTLY as I wanted, in the Portuguese style (with a little garlic in the basting and an egg perched on top) which is their standard method of preparation. It was tender, juicy and flavorful. The wonderful thing is that the garlic did not overpower the steak. It was present but only enough to add to the flavor. The portion was just enough to fill me without making me feel uncomfortably stuffed and left a little spot for dessert :) Please don't skip this part of the meal! I had an apple pie, made by one of the staff, which was delicious, but I've heard tell that the stand-out choice is the Affogato. Perhaps I'll try that out the next time I'm in town. I could go on and on about just one visit but let me round off by saying that if You're in the Wilderness area and you like a good steak, you owe it to yourself to make time for a trip to Joplins.

We read a few reviews and decided to give Joplins a shot. It was worth it. The place is quaint, with pictures of rock legends all over the walls and a good vibe the moment you walk in. The waiters were friendly and efficient and the menu was comprehensive .. if you’re a carnivore. If not then you can have a quiche but this is the wrong place if you are anything but a meat eater. Our group had filet, rump and rib eyes - all were thoroughly enjoyed. All the steaks arrive with an egg, chips or salad. Once the main meal was finished we received a vodka milk tart shot ...on the house. A nice touch Pricing was standard, parking was plentiful and I’d seriously recommend the Black Mountain gin! All in all a very good evening Highly recommended.

Excellent T-bone, maybe on the thin side for 500g but well cooked, the chips to die for; garden salad all ingredients fresh and crispy. Partner had an excellent rib-eye prepared to perfection. Will be back again and again for the meat. One of the waiters really friendly, the other one can work on it. A nice cosy off the beaten tract restaurant

Recommended this place by our host. Tucked a little out of the way but just off the main road outside of Wilderness. Started with a beer and both went for fillet steak served with a fried egg with fries. Followed the beer with a nice bottle of Haute Cabriere Pinot Noir Rose. Staff were great and food was very good. Only downside is that the interior is very dark so difficult to read menus. Total bill came to just under £50 inc tip.

I went with a few friends for supper, and we were seated outside in the cold, even though it was empty inside all evening. Most ordered the same steak which came in varying sizes. Portions were small, and we were largely ignored by the 2 staff on duty

It was our first visit to the area and we were lucky enough to have selected Joplins for dinner. What a gem! The food was fantastic, the staff warm and friendly and the atmosphere very welcoming. Great space and music. Highly recommend for meat eaters and even a quiche as a V option.
