We went to Butcher block Umhlanga lighthouse road. The food was absolutely mediocre.I ordered the steak and beef rib combo the ribs tasted as if it was boiled and was basted with marinade. The steak and prawn combo prawn tasted so fishy and old.The garlic roll had...an off smell Overall terrible experienceMore
Had a lovely dinner with colleagues in this venue. Steak was delicious, on top of everything mushroom sauce made it taste even better! Special thanks to Rose for her excellent service and recommendations in food and beverages!
Food and service was good. Unexpectedly the mussels in garlic sauce from the starter menu was very good, better than most seafood restaurants.
Went to try out the new restaurant. Do not cater for vegetarian... Not even an attempt....maybe thank You
Food good. SUPER slow service. Must have taken 40 min at least for our food order to be taken and the place was not busy. Waitress was not in a hurry. Lamb ribs were good.
When you do a R299 special to showcase your restaurant, you would expect a great showcase, this was a showcase with dirty broken windows and tattered half empty shelves. Half the items on the special menu were not available , service was terrible at best....This place came across as a low class noisy drinking hole masquerading as a high class eating establishment. Very disappointingMore
Worse meal I’ve ever had in S Africa … starters of snails were ok to be fair … but only ok !! We were asked how we wanted steak and burger … impressive when asked how you want a burger so presumed was homemade… steak...was ordered medium/rare and burger medium…. Both came well done…and burger was pre-made thick dried out thing !! Manager did come to see us but didn’t really say much !!More
We went for lunch at the Hillcrest Corner branch of Butcher Block. The restaurant has an attractive interior and service was good. Ordered two starters each - mussel pots, panko prawns and grilled calamari. The mussels were quite frankly the worst I have ever been...served. Dried out, overcooked and crumbling, with a tasteless gelatinous sauce - almost inedible. The prawns were good - crunchy and tasty. The calamari was also overcooked but not too bad. I suppose this is a steakhouse, but if a dish is on the menu it should meet a certain standard. We will not be back.More
We went there on our arrival day (stayed at the hotel next door) because we were too tired to go anywhere - we were positively surprised and even went there again on our second and last evening. The steaks as well as the burgers and...the pasta is delicious. They add 10 % tip on the bill automatically (we have not seen that before) but it is absolutely well deserved, the staff is very friendly and attentive! 100 % would recommend.More
This place is awesome. Service is friendly and quick, food came super fast. The food is just fresh and amazing!
My husband and I were in Umhlanga on our honeymoon from Australia, and were so excited to try a delicious South African steak at Butcher Block on The Pier. To start, the booking process was smooth and easy. We were seated quickly indoors, and straight...away the customer service was efficient and friendly. Our waitress was excellent! Most importantly, the food was sensational. My husband had steak with a side of mash, which was one of the best mashed potatoes he had ever eaten! The steak for both of us was cooked to perfection, and we were left impressed till the last bite. On top of all of this, the manager went out of his way to call us an Uber back to our hotel, and walked us out the Uber as well. We cannot wait to return next time for lunch!More
As soon as we arrived we felt so welcome and not at all rushed. Our steaks were cooked perfectly well and the taste was incredible! We were served by Lungile and she was so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. It was so good we...went back the second night! Definitely worth a visit if in the area!More
My wife and I went for a late lunch and ordered the hake and prawn special. The fish was cooked to perfection and together with the inclusive wine it was a pleasant experience. The bill came and we paid in cash giving the waitress two,...two hundred Rand notes. The change we received did not even equate to change of R300 let alone R400 and since the waitress was under no pressure (there was only two other diners) it was obviously not a "mistake." How sad and disappointing.More
So we decide change of scene is called for so as couples decided let's try out Umhlanga branch little did we know that our evening was about to become a living nightmare. We ordered the shisa nyama platter , we did realize that you meant...it literally . The meat was burnt to the point that it tasted bitter and it was also dry , seeing that we can't eat this even if we tried we spoke to a waitress who in turn sent the manager over who did not introduce himself nor state his position he just arrogantly told us " he does not see anything wrong with the food, I then asked him to taste it at showed the wings that were pitch black. He then walked away never To be heard from again. We asked for the bill asked to see him as the staff had now informed us that his new was Lucas and the manager of that franchise, an hour later still no Lucas . Out fo the 7 of us only 1 person got a decent plate . From when we arrived the hair on the table and dirty glasses we tried to not let it bother us but the last straw was the crappy food we were served with rudeness from the manager. So we paid their R1700 bill and asked for the nearest fast food place so we get something to eat as we left that place starved . I regret going to that place it ruined our night and ontop of that it was meant to be a celebration dinner of which it ended in all of us upset and hungry. I would love to hear how this issue of the rude and arrogant manager will be addressed ohh and how can I forget the coal they gave to us and called a meal I have attached some pictures. npmiya1@gmail.comMore
