On my birthday, 1st August, I visited this lovely part of the Beverly Hills Hotel which I have frequented over the last 20 years or so. It has one of the most amazing views of the ocean, and on this day, it is the service and the food that I am writing this review about ...wow!! The chef and staff went out of their way to customise food that was free of wheat/gluten and sulphites(which give me a harder time), and it was amazing. It was even better in my view than the original - the mushroom sauce on the eggs benedict stole the show!👌🏽 The atmosphere was also incredibly festive as there were two other customers celebrating their birthdays.🎉

From the time we arrived in the parking area of the Beverly Hills Hotel in Umhlanga Rocks we felt special. Friendly staff showed us to our table where friends were seated already. Unhurried but effective service contributed to a memorable evening. From the presentation of the menus to the finalization of the payment, we were treated with respect and appreciation. All four of us lived the food and wine and took note of the high level of proper etiquette.

One of the legendary venues in Durban. The setting and ambience is good. The service is very good. The food is ordinary. Possibly require a top chef and distinguish itself again. Still a special venue and dinner was old worldly and felt special.

This was absolutely pathetic. The line fish was over cooked and sent back. Then no line fish left. Ok, took hake also overcooked. By then my dining partners were finished so gave up. Lamb shanks were reheated poorly and mash and veges luke warm. This is meant to be 5 star. Rubbish! Will not be going back.

Disappointing fare. Two steaks had to be sent back as significantly overdone. Pork belly overcooked and dry. At this sort of price point, one would expect right first time. Two menu items not available. Maybe we had an off evening but I won't be going back in a hurry.

Attended the high tea today with my mum and daughter. Very disgusted with the different treatment the white guests received. The two tables with white guests were given top ups of welcome drinks on a continuous basis and we were refused. Instructed to the waiters by the manager of the place. Really pathetic as we all paid the same price

My wife and I had the famous Durban beef curry for dinner at The Sugar Club for a mere R660, including tip. There was far more plain beef fat than meat. There was no atmosphere and it felt like a depression zone in the Resturant

Made it clear when i booked it was my wifes 40th birthday. Was told the dress code is smart casual as it was fine dining, We get to the place the only people there was a family with kids making a noise. We were given the room service / bar menu with very few options . Were told that the normal menu would only be back in the next 2 days as they had no time to prepare. Why take the booking or not be upfront. Very sneaky of them

Didn't eat a la carte but from bar menu on terrace overlooking Indian Ocean. Oysters followed by the best fillet steak I have ever had! Deconstructed cheesecake and a couple of glasses of the local poinotage. Superb! Highly recommended 😊

I was terribly disappointed with the meal provided @ the Sugar Club in Valentines Day 2023. My grilled chops were tortured, rock hard and dry. I reported this to the Chef via the Waitrose sadly it wasn't fixed. My neice and her husband visited same for the birthday yesterday. Sadly the mix gril was reported to be overcooked and dry What's happening to the service guys. Hope it's not another Eskom situation 😕

I was quite disappointed with our dining experience for a restaurant of this supposed stature. There was a young lady with pj pants on. The couple next to us were outrageously loud, and they were not asked to please be considerate. In fact a member of the BH team went to them n added to the “loudness” for a bit. The food: R250 for Lobster bisque and the portion size was ridiculously small. From a taste perspective- it was also overpriced. The flambé prawns were nice - they were ok. The rice though is always dry / not fluffy or buttery but dry! My husband ordered the beef fillet which was well prepared and he enjoyed his mushroom Thermidor sauce and chips. The crushed Parmesan potatoes and curried deep fried onion rings were good. The “panacotta” in a bottle tasted ok but if you are expecting a soft velvety panacotta - at R120 - this isn’t it. It was firm - almost rubbery. I actually can’t recommend The Sugar Club restaurant if you are looking for that special night out. It failed to meet the standards of 5 star and luxe. It was very average and overpriced. The one waiter had his mask below his mouth and nose. Also, we had 2 additional items incorrectly added to our bill. So check your bills.

Weather forced us to stay in the hotel for supper, and that was no bad thing. The restaurant is elegant with very comfortable seating and well spaced tables. The menu, while not exhaustive, has something for everyone. I chose the duck liver parfait which was very nice, but I should have chosen the soft shell crab in tempura batter. My wife had the crab and it was beautiful. I chose the lamb shank for my main. I can only assume that you were supplied with a knife in order to cut the carrots, because the lamb just fell apart! Beautifully cooked, succulent, tender and full of flavour. An ample serving. My wife chose the fillet that was prepared to a perfect medium rare, no mean feat! The sides were well prepared and matched well with the meat. Throughout the meal, the restaurant staff were attentive but never overbearing, a credit to their training and management. We were ably looked after by Nto who recommended the fillet to my wife. Neither of us had room for dessert, but the menu was SO tempting! Maybe next time... Highly recommended. 👍👍👍👍👍
