We went here and our lunch was so great that the next day we were unanimous that we needed to go back - not something that happens often!
Over the two days we tried a variety of things, and the ingredients were always fresh and delicious. The Buddha Bowl (the chickpeas were fantastic!) and the carrot cake waffle were of particular note. Service was great and very friendly. Would absolutely go back if we found ourselves in KZN again.

We went for lunch whilst we were staying in Umhlanga. My husband and I are both vegetarians, so were very happy to find a vegan restaurant. He had a burger and I had the fake 'ribs'. Both meals were really good. I particularly liked glaze on the ribs. A little surprisingly, my brother, who is a confirmed carnivore, also enjoyed his burger.
The smoothies were lovely.
The service was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend this restuarant and will go again when I am next in Umhlanga.

Honestly was pleasantly surprised how yummy and flavourful the food was. We searched high and low for vegan restaurants and finally tried this place. Then proceeded to eat here the rest of our holiday as nothing could compare. Don’t waste your time searching just go and try this place. The owner and staff strive for excellence and owner cooks a mean curry packed with heat and flavour. So glad we found this place. We will be back next time we’re in SA!

South Africa is such a meat-centric place that I always celebrate a vegan restaurant, but am sometimes disappointed in the experience. Not so with The Vegan Chef at Unhlanga! The food was DELICIOUS, and the servers were friendly and responsive. It was a lovely experience, from the cheerful yellow chairs, warm welcome and cold mylkshakes to the hearty and delicious food, to the appreciation note on the extra food I got to go. The manager visited all the tables to personally thank people for coming, and I just wish I didn't have to come all the way from Seattle to eat here again!
- I had the crispy chickn burger with some vacon strips on the side.
- My (omnivore) Mom enjoyed her Chef's Special Beyond burger (I admit I was suspicious of the cheese when I saw it, but omg it nailed the taste of sharp cheddar, yum!).
- I took home a Buddah Bowl with seasoned chickn.
P.S. the burgers are generously sized and both came with fries

A good selection of burgers, wraps, salads and seitan chick’n. We had the sharing platter for two so had a selection of seitan chick’n, fish and ribs.
The peanut butter bomb smoothie was lovely. Save room for a waffle for dessert!
Take an extra layer on a windy day though!

It was my first time trying the beyond burger and it didn't disappoint. It's a cute spot by the pearls with such friendly staff. And I was so touched by the owners passion for veganism. Please give this restaurant a visit and support local!
