We had our 3rd or 4th visit this morning and we continue to enjoy African Roots which is local to us. It may not be on the main strip or overlook the beach, which we enjoy as this is what makes it a hidden gem....They always have a well spaced out table available and it is shaded and cooler on warm Durban mornings! Food and Coffee are excellent, with an artisanal feel including quality ingredients such as bacon sourced from the Dargle Valley etc. A great note is that they carry awesome Rye and Sourdough bread options etc. directly from the Glenwood Bakery. African Roots is also pet friendly, catering graciously to our dog and if the Owner is around, they may spoil your pooch with a little bacon strip!More

First visit very disappointing. No covid protocols , service extremely poor, food mediocre at best ( could not even get soft eggs correct) , value poor (at the top end of price spectrum with mediocre food). Bill brought in the hand and put on table........no presentation, no mints pen etc as per normal standards. Not sure why people visit here?More

My husband and I came here for brunch whilst on holiday in Durban. The food here is fresh, perfectly cooked and reasonably priced. The staff are excellent and the coffee is fabulous. Can’t recommend this place enough.

If you are in search of real GOOD COFFEE and a NICE coffee shop VIBE this is the place! Lovely quaint, yet streamlined and modern, somewhat artistic vibe! Their coffee is good enough for the coffee connoisseur! Perfect every time! And we are admittedly “coffee...snobs”. Friendly and welcoming baristas, waiters and owner / manager too! Could give 6 stars if that was an option! 👌🏻☕️More

Fantastic coffee shop. Sustainable sourced coffee prepared by highly knowledgeable baristas. Loved the artisanal food and the interesting chats with Wency and the owner Mark. What a great place!

Had a good strong coffee and tasty baked cheesecake. Conveniently located on the sidewalk with funky decor.

I have had the cappucino twice now (the first time in Nov and then in Dec) from this place and both times the drink was terribly bland. At least they're consistent. It would seem that the baristas (if they are actually qualified) have not got...the coffee to milk ratio correct. Disappointing. If you're looking for a great cappucino or other coffee drink, head into the Capital Pearls coffee shop instead. They make a fantastic cappucino, espresso and americano.More
