The cafe is located at the Cascades Centre in Pietermaritzburg and at Avenues Centre in Hilton, and serves a variety of dishes, including breakfast (served all day), light meals (freshly prepared salads, sandwiches, burgers and pasta) and dinner, including a tempting array of more substantial signature dishes. The service at this establishment is poor. You get seated, then 7 minutes later your drinks order is taken and 15 minutes later your food order is taken and 30mins later you food arrives cold. Used to be a good place to go, now it's a good place to avoid.

We visited the branch of Coffeeberry at The Avenues Shopping Centre in Hilton. Although the coffee is great the staff are really poor and not interested. Service is so slow. To make matters worse the selection of cakes etc was almost non-existent - at a lunch time!! There were 2 scones, 2 croissants, and 2 chocolate croissants to choose from. Surely you can do better when the branch at Cascades normally has a good variety. The treatment from the surly waitress when paying the bill was disgusting and we will not be back. Blackwoods just got more customers!!

Hi BWM55, please may we ask that you send us your contact details on info@coffeeberry.co.za. Service like this is obviously unacceptable and we would like to get some more details. We are so sorry you had such a poor experience.

If you are a forgetful type, this is the restaurant for you!! So grateful to waitress Nompilo for finding my phone left on the table and handing it in. By the time I returned home unaware of having left it, the restaurant had called a number on the phone to inform me they had it. It was kept overnight in their safe and returned the next day when I collected it. Also impressed with restaurant owner/manager who seems to care deeply for her staff, recognising and rewarding and encouraging their efforts. Thank you Coffeeberry - we will be back.

Having been seated and menus slapped down we waited for over half an hour for our orders to be taken. French toast with a few thin slices of banana and a bit of caramel sauce topped with a tiny dollop of ice cream R85. Not on... place has really deteriorated. Most disappointing.

Dont bother if you're going for coffee and cakes. This place is not cheap and the cream seems to be off more often than not which totally destroys the experience. I have emailed management about it as Im actually out of energy to complain to staff or ask them to check the quality before serving. Anyway, dont be shy to write a review if the same happens to you. Once is a mistake. Three times is taking the piss.

My family and I are Coffeeberry fans at other branches. We decided to try out the Hilton Avenues branch for the first time. It is a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing setup but the worst service I have experienced, we didn't even get to sample the food. We waited 5 minutes for a waiter to attend to us at the door. Waiters kept walking past us and ignored us. When one finally came over, she said there was no table available and we could wait at the outside seating area. We did so and then watched as 2 other families where seated and given menus while we waited outside. They were also helped instantly once they arrived at the door. The waiters stopped what they were doing and rushed over. Obviously we were not considered as important, reason uncertain. The only difference between us and the other families who were promptly assisted was the colour of my skin and I really do not believe that in this day and age that would be a factor. We asked to speak to the manager whose response was that she is usually stationed at the door to seat guests and had to attend to something at the back. Understandable, she can not be at the front the entire time. Does that explain why we were placed outside or why other families with the same number of patrons as us were seated first. We decided to leave. Very disappointing.

Hi Tashnin, whilst this is very disappointing to read, what is even more concerning is the racist allegations towards Coffeeberry. We will not even entertain such shocking and uncalled for allegations. Should you be interested in a constructive conversation with regards to poor service (which can happen to customers of all skin colours) then please send us your contact details on info@coffeeberry.co.za. Thanks very much.

Coffeeberry is well-positioned in the Cascades shopping center and is rather impressively furnished with soft lighting and a welcoming ambiance but this veneer is thin and the expectation that a quality experience awaits is sadly missing. Priced at the upper end for Maritzburg, the soggy chips, portion size and low-quality ingredients used on my plate ensured that this was a once-off experience. One does not paying when the quality is there, as one chooses the venue to have the expected experience. This, in the case of Coffeeberry, was not the case and left the feeling of being not only ripped off but sad disappointment at having chosen this venue over others which way exceed the quality, price and service.

Thank you for your review. In order for us to follow up on your complaint, please will you furnish us with some information such your receipt number, or simply the amount of your bill and how you paid? Did you ask to speak to a manager, and if so, what was his or her response? The restaurant business is complex. It is interesting to note that on the day of your review, we had a 4/5 and a 5/5 rating, so it seems that your 1/5 rating was an isolated problem. If you would kindly give us more information, we will be able to follow up and take steps to rectify the problems that you encountered. Of course, it is always best to complain in store, as this gives us an opportunity to sort out the problem immediately and allows you to enjoy your experience and leave happy! Coffeeberry has been operating for more than 15 years and over 80% of our customers rate their Coffeeberry experience as very good to excellent, so your experience is unfortunate. Be assured that we always welcome feedback and will go out of our way to rectify problems if they are brought to our attention.

The slowest service in town - ever! The coffee was lukewarm. The so-called fish cakes were more like lukewarm potato cakes. The only thing colder was the apparent interest of the waitron who could not care less. No sign of any management. Never again !

Our expectations of a lovely Saturday lunch were dashed the minute we took the first bite. I ordered the hake which in past years at Cascades Coffeeberry had been the best fish in town.. Today the coating on the fish had already lifted away from the fish halfway down. It was only just warm and seemed to be stuck together in the middle. - fries were a tasteless failure and as for the side salad of limp bruised pieces of lettuce, one tiny tomato , one piece of feta cheese, and a shred of onion, the three olives were the only joy. My husbands gourmet burger was the worst hamburger he had eaten in 20 years. Truly truly terrible . Dry as a bone although still raw in the centre. So sad to give this delightful venue a big thumbs down. Although staff member were right next to the entrance chatting, customers were having to open the door to leave. That's not right.

I ordered a Greek salad and was shocked. A small, small, bowl filled with lettuce - a bush, actually - a few measly pieces of avacado, one or two miserly pieces of red onion, a few pieces of tomato. No olives, no feta cheese, no green or red peppers, no dressing. Never came across a more pathetic Greek salad. And at R130-00 per bowl, it's daylight robbery. Coupled with the above is the excessively loud jungle music, hardly compatibl with the more conservative patrons. We had to request a toning down Charlie West

Situated in Cascades shopping centre, with plenty of free parking available. Large restaurant with plenty of tables inside and outside. We sat outside, which was pleasant. The cappuccinos were had were good and shared a banana muffin which was tasty. Worth another visit.

Excellent and varied menu with good quality foods and the best cappuccino. They also serve a giant cinnamon sugar pancake that is the best I have ever tasted. Good food, good location, good service with lovely staff. The ideal place to have a coffee for business meetings or family gatherings.

Don’t believe the vegan options line. Staff clueless about dairy-free options, looked at us as if we were mad. Meal could have been good with some basic understanding of a vegan diet. No problem but then don’t advertise it if you can’t provide it.

So much to choose from and always a pleasure to be at Coffeeberry. Great breakfasts are served here, from the amazing Turkush Sunrise to delicious omelettes and more. Their meals are generous, tasty and filling. Their coffee is tops. And the other nice thing is that the Cascades lifestyle mall is convenient, has ample parking and has a great vibe.

What an attractive coffee shop and the confectionery scent is so alluring, I had to give in to view the place. I was met by a table of beautiful looking confectionery, it was a tough choice to decide on what to select, I finally opted for the vegetable quiche and carrot cupcake. They were absolutely delicious, fresh, well presented and great portions. The staff were attentive to our needs. All in all, a fantastic stop.
