The Sunday lunch was very nice. The starter was really good, but the apple pie was raw and tasteless, not in line with the rest of the meal. Being a sweet tooth, this was a let down. The waiter was friendly and efficient.
When we holiday on the South Coast, we stay in Munster. We often feel the need for a decent grilled meal - like lamb chops or a fillet, rump or T-bone steak. Seafood is often called for too! We happily zoot through to Margate to...the Friar Tuck restaurant, where excellent fare and value is served by enthusiastic and helpful waitrons. The medieval English folklore theme hits you upon entry. Fair prices too.
We are happy to return as we have over the years.
It should be noted that there is new ownership, and our as such, teething problems were experienced on our last visit, although the quality of food was as high as always.
If you looking for a good meal, at a fair price, with good service - try the Friar's place!More
We always come twice a year for dinner, but since the new owner it has turned to the worst ever, no wine, only certain foods available, ypu don't get what's on the menue...this place will never see us again!!!
We had a fabulous meal at Friars Tuck. Both the rib starter as well as the calamari starter were great. I had the fillet with asparagus and it was delicious. The trump with mustard was good as well. The highlight was their sago desert. Big...enough for 2 to share.More
Experienced some rainy weather and decided rather to go out for supper. Our regular spot was full, so we decided to see where else we could eat, ended up at Frair Tuck. Warm service and great steaks, other than not having much in a wine...selection we had a great time.More
This is our secret place. Personally I think this restaurant serves the best asparagus steak in the world. The food is great and they have a fully stocked bar that includes sundowner, wines, spirits, beers and cocktails. I am happy to suggest this restaurant to...anyone looking for a good dining experience.More
I send a lot of clients to this restaurant and every now and then go there myself to check. Not one person has ever come back disappointed. The service is good and the food is of highest standard. An excellent place to take important business...partners to.More
I am in Margate without my family and was looking for a place that offers a good meal at a good price and something not too formal. From the outside the property looks a little dim and can actually throw you off.
By chance I...asked the car guard which of the 2 restaurants (there was another next to Friar) does he recommend and he told me that the Friar is always busy, so I went on his input and my gut.
Upon entering the property the decor does seem like something out of a western cowboy movie but I will as acknowledged within 5 steps and directed to a seat.
I asked my waiter for his recommendation and he recommended the oxtail, it so divine and falling off the bone...
My two cents worth is never judge a place from the exterior not by negative reviews you read.
I will definitely go back especially when I have my family with me.
Thanks to the staff at Friar 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻More
Might hv been the best steakhouse in 2003 but i think that was were they got stuck in terms of decor, although they need a serious revamp - keeping the theme- the food was ok. Large portions and the veggie bake was good. Patties on...the burgers was real meat and sauces thick and creamy.More

As a restaurateur I have learned that you have to have a thick skin. It is true that the best restaurants can have the worst reviews and the worst restaurants can have the best reviews. In my experience, I do believe that people seem to make a concerted effort to write a scathing review if their expectations are not met but far less of an effort to review if these expectations are met. While I do not excuse the fact that sometimes things do simply go horribly wrong, pleasing everybody is simply not possible. At the end of the day everybody is different and has a different set of expectations. It may not be that things went wrong for a particular customer, but rather the experience they had of their met or un-met expectations differ from patron to patron.
In the case of Friar Tuck, a simple example is our décor! We have some patrons who absolutely love it and take time to photograph things and themselves around the restaurant while another patron on the same day will comment that it is old and needs a revamp – same day same décor – what do you do?
Whilst we strive for consistency with both the quality of our food and the service of our staff, everybody has an off or bad day. These tend to be more hastily reviewed than the overwhelming majority of exceedingly satisfied customers.
My only suggestion is to try Friar Tuck for yourself and see what experience you have 99.9% of the time the food is excellent and service warm and friendly.
