The most eccentric, funky, modern, old, stylish and eclectic place you will ever eat. I had breakfast Sunday and I have to say I loved it. The place isn't hard to find ample parking around the cafe, the owner is the best, he's on the...front door welcoming and engaging. The food was a little slow to come but I didn't mind as there is so much to look at in the place, the outside areas is good and this is a place you can come and work, review email, solo, family, friends and partners. The breakfast was really really good and the waitress who served us (a party of 8) was super nice and friendly even if she was amazingly busy. I would recommend a visit if youre in Durbs.More

Antique Cafe is much more than a restaurant. It is a destination. We were warmly welcomed by the owner. The staff are friendly and extremely hospitable with excellent knowledge of the menu. The food is extraordinary and the Carrot Cake is a real show stopper....Probably the best I have ever had.More

Deeply disappointed!! I have been wanting to try this place for ages! Came all the way from Johannesburg. We were seated at a table that wasn’t even wiped or sanitized for at least 10 minutes and this was only after I went to the front...to ask for them to clean and bring menus. After getting the menus, no one came back to our table for a long time tto take our order. We were not acknowledged and eventually we walked out. Very disappointed!More

I've not been to Antique café since it changed hands a while ago. It used to be a sweet, boho, tranquil place with some good menu items coming out of a tiny kitchen and lots of interesting second hand clothing, decor, furniture etc for sale....Antique Cafe is still charming and boho, but the energy is much more vibey, the second hand goods are gone, and it was bustling with families and groups of friends having late breakfast or early lunch, with a lot more tables in the enlarged courtyard outside and the various rooms which used to house second hand furniture. It was full for a reason: an interesting menu with lots of choices( the salmon on sweetcorn fritters is still there) and the food was ample, fresh and delicious. We sat near the new kitchen hut in the courtyard, and so heard all the bustle and energy directed at getting food to tables in a busy service. We were warned, on arrival ( by the charming French maitre de) that the place was busy and we might have a 30 minute wait for our food, but it came much faster than that, and I had to curtail my visit to their on site bakery and coffee roastery. Thomas had a chicken wrap with fries, which was described as sweet chili chicken quesedilla but, fortunately, was not sweet chili, but a hot, tasty sauce in a nicely toasted wrap with really good skinny fries. I had the shakshuka, which was a bowl of the most delicious chilli tomato with two poached eggs and their home made bread, toasted. I was very pleased with it all. The person giving the orders at the pass( who might have been the owner) also pressed on us a complimentary plate of the zucchini fries. Gosh, those were so good that I'd go back just for them! I'm not sure that the cakes are the same standard as the previous ( those in the cabinet looked rather more like the standard layered ones which infest our coffee shops, and there was no sign of the gluten free dark chocolate cake or the baked cheesecake) but I was assured that the beesting cakes are still there. Did I mention someone was tinkling happy tunes on the piano all the while? It was a warm, happy, place to eat and be, and the food was good, we will be back.More

Visiting on a Sunday morning is probably not the best idea as this is one of the busiest times. The food took just over an hour to arrive- by which time we were starving. Our order of crumbed mushrooms, a thai chicken wrap, shakshouka and...eggs benedict were all delicious- especially the accompanying sweet potato fries. The garden setting is beautiful and provides a unique atmosphere in the middle of the city to which I would return.More

It was my mums 85th birthday so we had to go somewhere special but had to be out of the durban sweltering heat. This establishment came highly recommended. It is very quaint and was great taking my mum through memory lane with all the antique...and vintage memorabilia. The restaurant is primarily laid out in a shaded garden with great murals. We seated ourselves on a dirty table. A person came to clean the table and when we enquired, the person informed us that he was the waiter. The drinks order came out in stages. The food also was not served all at the sane time when the last persons food came out after the first person had finished their food. My Salmon Benedict was exceptional and made up for the lack in service. My sister’s halloumi less halloumi wrap with aubergine fries was also amazing. So in a wrap, the settings and food made up for much of the loss ground due to poor service. The outdoor toilet was also not acceptable. If these fixable items are resolved, the place would offer an overall great experience worth coming back to again and againMore

Welcoming staff and unique decor and setting makes this place worth a visit. The atmosphere and ‘old charm’ makes this venue a rarity for Durban. Good value and great service.

Unquestionably a trendy warm atmosphere with alot of effort in their decor and environment. My last visit was 1 yr ago and again i had breakfast in October 2019 which was a disaster. Eggs Benedict - my order arrived with fried eggs hollandaise sauce on...the side which was far from what hollandaise sauce tastes like, the taste of vinegar overwhelmed my tastebuds. The french guy needs to go! He flutters around with this accent- delightful to some but intrusive to others as i was there to have breakfast and not a conversation with the matre d’ ....overall excellent atmosphere , presentation of food excellent but taste is poor....need more substance to their tastes.More
