If you are an italian food lover you have to visit Cafe del Sol Classico. When you walk in you can see the love of food everywhere. We were greated very friendly. The kitchen is open so you can see the fresh pastas hanging. The decor is so interesting. A lot to take in. You get this warm home feeling and feel special. I had the Ladies Porcini Chicken. The Chicken breast was cooked to perfection, soft juicy with a nice crispy skin. It was served with a Truffle oil Risotto, a bed of Porcini mushrooms and green peas. It tastes as good as it looks. Hubby enjoyed the homemade lamb Ravioli of the day. And my daughter had the Calamari with creamy Limoncello sauce, served with Parmesan black rice, which was awesome. They shared the Salted Caramel creme Brulee served with popcorn ice cream. Truely amazing. An Awesome experience. A must to visit. And booking is essential.

Best ragu in Johannesburg!

We had the most amazing time at Classico on Valentine's Day. Our waiter - I believe his name was Lindani - was the best. The food was sublime, too. My absolute favourite dishes on your menu (based on this visit and many others), would have to be the crispy squid heads, the mussels, the gnocchi, Nonna's Ragu, the Duck Ragu, and of course the panna cotta (yours is the only panna cotta I'll eat that wasn't made in my own kitchen). My husband is crazy for your nougat cheesecake, too. All in all, we love this branch, the staff and the food.

Fantastic pasta!

The pasta here is absolutely amazing! The restaurant looks very nice and the service is always good. They are a bit on the expensive side, but definitely worth it if you feel like the best pasta you've ever had. Leave some space for dessert, because the cheese cake is magical. They get quite busy, so be sure to make a reservation.

Very disapointed

We have been going to cafe del sol classico for many years and it was always so so good! I always take the carbonara and I must say it used to be the best. My husband and I went about 1 month ago and it was a bad experience. First the waiter forgot to tell us about the specials. When I asked it was too late as we already ordered our meals. I am not saying we would have ordered the specials but as a rule of thumbs we always know about specials. When my fresh pasta came they were not cooked so I had to send it back and my husband ate alone. Finally I received my pasta but I definitely needed a magnifier to see the pancetta. I know that pancetta is expensive but it is what makes it special and I never had that problem before! The staff had no clue about food and sadly there was no supervision. I must say it was one of the only restaurant where I never had any complaints as good food is becoming a very difficult thing to get in Johannesburg.

Some of the best food in Jozi!

Headed over after finding out a Joburg favorite had closed down during lockdown. The restaurant has a very warm setting in a quaint little space which was so therapeutic for a Friday Night dinner catch-up with a friend. The food was absolutely outstanding and mouth-watering! I had the steak with streaky beacon in cheese sauce! Talk about sauce - it was saucy! I would go back here without hesitation! Highly recommended!

All round excellent experience. Great service- friendly, efficient and extra touches e.g. sliced strawberries to add to our champagne. Delicious food - the calamari served with black rice, the stir fry sesame chicken, fresh pasta. Spoilt for choice and every dish a delight. Definitely worth many repeat visits

Never disappoints

Had a birthday dinner at Cafe del Sol last evening. That restaurant has never disappointed us. Good food, good wines and great service. I asked for a starter portion of risotto that was not on the menu and they made a plan. Very tasty and cooked perfectly. Main was pork belly and although they had run out of the normal sauce, they made a plan with a red wine jus. Nice roasted veg in a butter sauce. If there was a small stumble, it was the desert. I felt the ice cream not up to scratch and I would expect a good Italian restaurant to serve a perfect gelato. I felt the ice cream was a little weak and not creamy. I will be back.

A near Michelin experience

It seems from previous reviews that the restaurant has changed address, now at the Blueberry Square shopping mall, upper level. I was taken there by some work colleagues on my business trip to Joburg, and just expecting a usual Italian lunch. But oh boy, what a difference. 200g Fresh Scottish salmon seared with a black sesame crust, served with zesty mashed avocado, fresh grapefruit and homemade sweet chilli sauce Followed by: Salted Caramel Crème Brûlée, With popcorn infused ice-cream A very comprehensive menu, wide range of Pasta and Pizza dishes. I was not expecting to find this quality in the northern suburbs A 12 hour flight to return ! Many thanks to the family

Have supported this restaurant for many years now. Without a doubt it has been the very best in our area. Sadly I am now only giving it a 3 star. This is not because of the food quality - it remains good - but because of the unbelievable hike in the prices and disappointingly slow service. Of course there was the blow of Covid, but to try and recoup losses at the expense of very loyal customers who have also been hard hit by the pandemic seems to be very short sighted indeed. There were signs of a decline well before Covid in fact, but with further increases who knows how it will end.

We have tried to keep our prices as low as we can for as long as we can and unfortunately we had no choice because of massive increases in food costs to increase them. We were also running on shorter staff due to COVID but all my staff are back and working and now service is much better. We appreciate you taking the time to advise us on your perspective and we will take heed of your feedback. We do hope we see you again soon.

No lowering of quality

I am always a little concerned to revisit an establishment where previously I had enjoyed an excellent meal. Quite often they fail to meet expectations, not so the Cafe Del Sol. Again this review is for their property at the Blueberry Square shopping mall. My only critique is that people eat early in South Africa, by 9.00 pm I was about the only person left in the restaurant. But then full marks to William, my waiter for the evening Having paid and left, I waited in the mall for my Uber cab, it did not appear. The restaurant was closed but banging on the door attracted their attention. William accompanied to the mall, spent time on the phone until finally a cab was organised, probably some 15 minutes Customer service of the highest order, many thanks William

Poor lousy service

BAD AND POOR SERVICE - WAITED OVER AN HOUR FOR FOOD AND RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY. We arrived at 1pm and it is now 2:34 and we still do not have our food

Sad to find that they have moved - No notice or change on their website, or here..... And not just down the road anymore. Attention to detail is a general in their space and they do it well.... I think the ball has been dropped here.
