A culinary odyssey, art on a plate , those are the phrases that immediately come to mind in attempting to verbalise the incredible journey through the magic of food one embarks on at Restaurant Mosaic. Every time I think Chef Chantel cannot do better ,...that she has reached her culinary pinnacle, she again sets the bar higher. Every visit is therefore a “ new” and even better experience than the previous one - unimaginable until you actually experience it. Chantel cares about every diner , everyone gets her personal attention and nothing is too much trouble. She ensures that every dining experience at Restaurant Mosaic becomes yet another unforgettable one , another treasured memory . Her staff is well trained, friendly and excellent service is clearly a priority. Staying over at The Orient is yet another treat - the attention to detail, making your stay special , individualised attention to unique requirements , one will have to search far to get that kind of service elsewhere in the world. On a final note , Restaurant Mosaic epitomises the meaning of “ fine dining” and here in the southern part of Africa, that makes me very proud!More

We visited Mosaic for my partner's 36th birthday. Chantel's attention to detail, the well trained staff, and excellent wine selection all made for an unforgettable experience. I've been fortunate to be experience fantastic cuisine in my life, but this was by far the best I...have had. Spending an afternoon at Mosaic had the same effect on me as going away for a lovely weekend. I'll follow Chantel's career with keen interest.More

We visited the restaurant for my wife's 30th Birthday. We have been planning on going for so long but just never really justified going because it is not cheap. But wow was it worth it. When we arrived we had to wait a little bit...before someone came to serve us but then everything was amazing. The service, food and whole experience is amazing. We visited a two michelin star restaurant last year and this blew that out the water. The presentation and quality is amazing. Prepare yourself for a long evening as with any fine dining but truly an experience we wont forget.More

We will never again support Mosaic and we will definitely not advise anyone to support them in future. I am deeply disappointed, to say the least, with the staff at Mosaic Restaurant and the Orient Hotel. I made a booking on 4 September 2020 for...my mother’s 60th birthday. The booking was for 20 November 2020 at Mosaic coupled with a booking for three bedrooms at the Orient that night. I confirmed my booking via email and telephone and even received a booking confirmation on 12 November 2020 specifying the rooms I booked. All of a sudden on 17 November 2020, only three days before our long-awaited celebrations, I received a call from the staff informing me that there was a double booking and that we cannot stay over at the hotel. Apparently, someone booked just before me on the 4th of September and the rooms will have to go to them. How on earth do they only pick up this error after more than two months and as I said, three days before our booking??? The lady who contacted me told me that the owner suggests we organise a shuttle for ourselves and that they recommend Pilansberg or Sun City……..????? Does the owner not have the faintest idea how far away those locations are from their establishment and what an inconvenience that would be for us? They did not offer to assist me in organising a shuttle or offer suitable suggestions of hotels around them that they can recommend. I could not speak to the owner as she was apparently not available, neither could I speak to the lady who first confirmed my booking. The only contact person was a lady who has recently joined their team and could not assist me properly. I felt absolutely humiliated at their “shrug it off” and “it’s not our problem” attitude. I had to explain to my family that the fine dining experience we were looking forward to is cancelled with no logical explanation as to why. My family and I have all dined at Mosaic before and I know Chantel’s food is great, but she and her staff must remember that all her rewards means nothing if they cannot provide their guests with basic good service, administration, and above all respect. I highly doubt the double-booking story and believe we were pushed off the list for the guest who booked five rooms for that night as appose my booking for three rooms. How did they only pick up on this mistake more than two months after the bookings? You may not have viewed me as an important enough guest to assist properly and in a professional manner, but believe me, if you keep on treating “less important” guests this way, your business will feel it.More

Chef Chantel and her staff exceeded our lofty expectations. The food, the wine pairing, the ambience, and the attentiveness of the staff was out of this world. My wife and I had huge expectations due to the feedback from our friends who had dined their...previously. We left hugely impressed. It did help that we had a suite at The Orient Hotel and Mari made us feel welcome from the start. Chef Chantel has a special talent; tempered only by her humility. Definitely a bucket list experience to be had....More

When an experience brings you to tears, there surely has to be something magical about it ✨ Being a very, very amatuer “foodie” or simply “appreciator” of great cuisine and wine, particularly an appreciation for local female chefs who push culinary boundries and reimagine food,...through a naturally artistic lens. I have followed Chef Chantel Dartnall and her career, for some time now, which includes an extensive and increasing accolade list. One of them being Best Female Chef in the world in 2017 🤯 Needless to say I was more than excited to finally be getting to experience the magic and wonder of dining at Restaurant Mosaic @ The Orient. Last night we had the privilege of meeting Chef Darntall and experiencing this eclectic time capsule of a restaurant which too boasts an immaculate estate within the The Francolin Conservancy. Chef Chantel Dartnall defines her approach as "botanical cuisine-to feature Mother Nature on a plate, where each dish is designed to reflect the beauty, balance, harmony and purity that you find in nature." It's about capturing nature's nuances, but it's also about studying the medicinal properties of the herbs and flowers she includes in the menu, to aid in digestion, promote blood circulation and a general feeling of wellbeing. The attention to detail and personal touches truly blew me away. Stef had originally booked this as a birthday surprise for me in April and naturally this had to be pushed out thanks to our friend Rona. The restaurant team however did not forget this and I was presented with an amazing birthday cake with a personalised message, in and amongst the treat of the +- 11 phased overall fine dining experience. Mosaic too has one of the most comprehensive wine cellars in South Africa, comprising of more than 80 000 bottles of wine under 5 500 different local, as well as international labels. The selection of brandies includes Armagnac and Calvados, unmatched anywhere else in South Africa. Not surprisingly, it has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades. Moses, the Sommelier, was outstanding and to learn he started out in the gardens, then moved to being a waiter, only to end up being the award winning Sommelier he is now. An incredibly remarkable story and he absolutely added to the overall experience for us. We were greeted by our wonderful host Mari who is also the art curator and custodian of the museum. We salute not only the culinary dream that has been created here, but too the 14 years of creating an all round sensory experience through food and art. Special mention of Immaculate our main waiter, who could not have done enough to ensure we were well taken care of. There is no greater gift at this point in my life, I could have been presented with. Thank you to the team at Restaurant Mosaic, my high hopes and expectations were not only surpassed, but sent into a realm beyond the confines of this world. Thank you to my love for knowing me and giving me the gift of an experience I will never forget.More

From the time you enter the premises to the time that it dawns on you that you are sad that its over and leave, the staff have a huge smile on their faces and they make the whole experience worth while. The staff's happiness is...contagious and you then get drawn into smiling along. The chef's imagination and creativity is unparalleled and her ability to paint a picture and transport you into her world with her story telling and her food is such a great gift. We went their for our anniversary and we were blown away by the special attention we received and we love the personal touch that the Chef gave us and the rest of her guests. Really appreciate that she takes time out of her schedule and comes to talk to you. We will definitely be back and I will tell everyone I know about this gem. We need to support this kind of excellence in this country to showcase the level of skills we also have in this country.More
