We visited on a busy post-lockdown Sunday evening. One customer in a party of six was so drunk, he could not stand up straight. He was totally loud and obnoxious. It was clear: the entire restaurant was disturbed by this behaviour.
Guess how the staff...at Basilico handle the situation?
They continue to serve more beer, one round after the next. They just kept it flowing. Like they're on auto-pilot: programmed to churn bucks. The more they drank, they more they ordered, the more they received. I wish I had the nerve to record this atrocious situation on my mobile phone, or call the police. The situation was completely out of control.
Unfortunately for us, because the restaurant was so full, service was slow and we had to put up with this behaviour for much longer than necessary.
Greed is just so very ugly. Basilico used to be one of my favourites but I would need a lot of convincing to ever return.More
We had the good fortune to choose Basilico, Newlands for luncha family lunch. Having been locked down for my birthday and our anniversary we wanted to have a special lunch and we were not disappointed. All of our party of ten were delighted with their...meals. The pizzas were thin based and perfect. The steaks were exactly as ordered and the salads were amazing. All this as well as friendly and efficient service.More
We visited here on a Friday evening and it was buzzing. We hadn't booked a table and we were lucky to get one although it was near the exit. We ordered our food along with 2 beers. I opted for a pizza and my partner...had a cold meat platter. Both arrived after a slight wait which was understandable as they were so busy.. We both enjoyed our food and would recommend Basilico. One thing I wish the parents of kids in the restaurant would keep them under control as some were running up and down the stairs getting in the waiters way. If the kids had hot food dropped on them no doubt their parents would be in uproar.More
Standard fare at this Italian restaurant is poorly executed and badly presented. Four of us had dinner here, based on a good experience last year. But the standard has dropped. My risotto was tasteless and a wodge of carbs. Salad was a mix of raw...veg, mostly peppers and carrots, crudely chopped and served without dressing. Pasta was heavy and the sauce looked processed. What a difference from the fresh and vibrant cooking we enjoyed here a year ago.More
we were in Cape Town over Christmas and New Year and ate a couple of times at Basilico, we enjoyed the food here very much, good portions, a bit too big for me but i wasn't complaining, you could always take away leftovers if you...wanted to, service was also very good.More
