We went to Moyo Restaurant on Friday, 10 May 2024. The service of the staff was good. The food was ok as well. It was a rainy day and we felt at ease by the person who served us. He was a gentleman by directing the heater on us to keep us warm. This small attention is commendable and appreciated. However, we did not enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant overall and we did not receive basic welcoming social etiquettes such as a "hello" or other basic social etiquettes from other waiters in the restaurants. We rather felt very odd being at the restaurant.
Apart from that, we were on a city pass which claimed to offer 10% discount on the bill and sadly, we were informed that this information is not up to date. This was very embarassing for us though we did not really bothered about it and accepted to have lunch despite not having any discount. I believe such issues should be sorted out at organisational level prior to a client coming to avail himself of a discount. I guess, the restaurant manager could have at least offered us a bottle of water free of charge or any other gesture to avoid us feel embarassed and just plainly inform us that the discount is not available. It made us feel cheap at that moment.
Nevertheless, I would like to commend the waiter who served us as he was the only positive factor in our experience at Moyo Restaurant.

During our visit to Kirstenbosch Gardens we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the MOYO restaurant. The staff great you outside the restaurant with warm smiles. We tried a lot of local cuisine that was flavorful and plentiful. It was a wonderful experience.

We took our English visitors to the Kirstenbosch Gardens and decided to have lunch before we started walking around the gardens . We were given a table away and the service was good . The food tasty and interesting .We weren’t rushed and our waiter was very obliging .
The restrooms were clean and accessed downstairs by a staircase that had an interesting carved balustrade. The decor was interesting too.
. We were very satisfied when we left .

We had spent a great morning walking the gardens and got to MOYO for lunch just before the rain started, so good timing. Seated no problem, asked for some Boschendal Rose along with other drinks for the driver and kids only for a bottle of MCC to turn up. Upon querying it I was told that they only had MCC available (we saw other tables having MCC shown to them as well). I asked whether they had any cold white wine available and was finally shown 3 bottles of white wine, one of which we selected. We then looked to order our food and were told that about 5 items were unavailable. The kids both went for beef sliders and we all made other choices, including a beef burger. The sliders emerged only for them to be chicken. We queried this and were told that they didn't have any beef, so they just brought chicken out! We then queried the beef burger and were told the same, and it then turned out that they were planning to substitute one of the other dishes as well. We sent the food that had come out back, finished the poured drinks, took the rest of our unfinished wine bottle, paid for the drinks and left. Only positive thing is that at least they didn't try and argue with us and sorted out our bill promptly
Its been a few years since we've been to the restaurant at the gardens but when we have been previously it had always been very pleasant, so its a real shame that the standards have fallen so far

Having eaten here on several occasions in the past decided to take a a friend who was visiting from the U.K. to sample the interesting menu. Our friends salad was swimming in vinegar ( I’m guessing it was supposed to be some sort of dressing and we had to order a some bread to try and mop it up. I had the Durban lamb curry Kota which was more bone and fat than meat.all in all a very bad experience come on Moho you can do better than that, I was in formed that they had a new chef! Please have a word with him,

We went to Moyo for Easter Sunday buffet lunch as a family of 7. I had been many years prior for this buffet lunch and unfortunately can say that the quality of the buffet has sadly deteriorated. Limited options for food and dessert. As a small example we were told there is no custard for the malva pudding and that we should use the creme brulee to eat it with. As a whole, not good value for money. The wine selection is also not a fair representation of the great quality the Cape has to offer. The bottle we ordered was poured without giving us a taster first (basic server etiquette) and was actually not drinkable being extremely acidic. When giving that feedback to the manager we were told he doesn't think there is anything wrong with it and promptly charged us R300 for a bottle we didn't drink. I would like to assure visitors to our fair city that Moyo Kirstenbosch is not representative of the diverse and rich cuisine as well as viticulture that there is to offer in Cape Town. Steer clear of this obvious tourist trap that the establishment has evolved into.

I had the misfortune of eating here. The food was lackluster, even without taking into consideration how pricey it is. We waited an hour for our food, the card machine had issues and we had to be taken down into a far-off area of the venue where the network was decent. And then, after all this, the waiter had the nerve to challenge our modest tip (bad service, modest tip), repeatedly telling me that I shouldn't bother tipping if I can't afford it. When I offered to add more, they continued insulting me, after which point my colleague and I left.
I'm sure you may find some food here that you enjoy, especially with the right seasoning and/or sauce. I didn't enjoy it at all.

So disappointed! We booked our Year End Function at Moyo and spent a considerable amount of money upfront for a set Menu which included wine and a welcome drink.
There were insufficient welcome drinks for our group and we asked the waiter for the promised glasses but they never arrived.
The food was absolutely tasteless and insufficient for 11 people. The 3 carrots and other greens were dry and hard. The hummus was flavourless. The line fish was just a mouthful of bones. We were supposed to have cauliflower mash as a side with the lamb - we were given 'tasteless mealie meal'. They could of at least substituted the cauliflower mash with rice!
The dessert was the biggest disappointment of the day. I am sure that two strawberries were cut into 22 pieces as we received 2 tiny slivers, 2 dots of strawberry coulis and a spoonful of chocolate mouse on our plates. The chocolate brownie was a thin 3mm slice and the white chocolate crumble was a few crumbs around the mouse!
We had chosen the more expensive set menu and with the amount of money spent, we would have had a superb culinary experience elsewhere. There is nothing good to say about this restaurant. The bathroom is appalling!

Dessert was atrocious and inedible 😭 What a letdown, as staff seemed competent and friendly and the setting is amazing. We had a gelatinous 'G&T cheesecake,'which was like rubber and not cheesecake at all. By the way it's the 2 square things on the side of the ball of gelato. The chocolate mousse tasted acidic and off. Extremely disappointed. I won't be bringing guests back here until you get real cheesecake, malva and decent South African desserts. A real chef would have apologised and known to change this menu.

We stumbled across this restaurant as we were on a time crunch and it was an absolute delight! Our waitress was "Charity" and she was as friendly and sweet as pie. The atmosphere: rustic with wood architecture mixed with sleek glass touches and oversized windows to give a unique feel of being in the heart of nature. The service: It was a Monday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. Charity sat us and took our drink order. She returned shortly thereafter for the ceremonial hand washing with was quite nice. She was very pleasant and took very good care of us. The food: it is so hard to find a decent vegan burger but this burger was absolutely DELICIOUS even without cheese! My mom ordered grilled sweet potatoes and they were so delicious She never even got to try hr main course. We order more Tantalizing potatoes and she was on cloud nine. The chicken she ordered looked very juicy. Everything was SEASONED!! I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for aesthetic and delicious food.

At one of the last days of our roundtrip and sunshiny day after another stormy weather period we visited Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Since it was a warm day and having strolled around in the gardens whole day we felt like having a iced coffee would be a good idea when we passed the Moyo cafe/restaurant. What was brought didn't taste like a iced coffee at all but more like iced water with a slight coffee taste. We explained the waiter what we expect of a iced coffee and how it should be made. What we became than was an improvement but still under expectation. Experiencing this quality we didn't go for more despite the efforts of the waiter to sell us some other dishes or drinks.

Visited Moyos for lunch after a previous exceptional dining experience. This establishment never fails to deliver an unforgettable culinary experience.
Located within Kirstenbosch Gardens, this restaurant is just stunning…Decor, amazing views of the gardens and surrounding mountains, welcoming and friendly team, amazing service including face painting which was a nice touch, extensive and authentic menu and absolutely delicious food. Great atmosphere and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Definitely a big fan and will be back.

Never go to this restaurant. Their prices are far too expensive for the poor service they gave us. They took 30min just to bring the drinks and we didn't even order food because of their bad service. Their service is so bad, it just ruined whole experience at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Their management should improve their management and quality of service and food or they might aswell close.

Wanted a place to have lunch and drinks while the kids played and I regretted recommending Moyo to my family. This pathetic place is designed to rip off tourists, if you’re a local give this place a skip! Worst thing about this place…if you’re not white, expect to get a table in the back corner, even in an empty restaurant. The best service and tables are ‘reserved’ for white walk ins, expect rude and condescending service otherwise. Management will treat whites and white foreigners well, but treat locals poorly, I’d suggest you’d stay away or risk having your day/trip ruined. Disgusted by how my family was treated here and what they related to me. Despicable in this day and age. Moyo, we expect better than racist practices and uneducated, rude managers. Fix it. Will ensure that none of our family or friends come here again, and will take our money elsewhere. Disgusting. This place has really gone down. Asked for a table out front in order to watch small kids while they played at the playground. Restaurant was empty- manager to refused to seat our party out front, I guess he didn’t want a table of brown people front and center. How pathetic right, in this day and age. Given the story that our table would have been obstructing the entrance, which is not true at all. And the condescending and rude reaction that the request for a different table was met with, really surprising. Obviously the manager doesn’t understand the hospitality industry or the meaning of the word hospitable. Sad reality in this day and age that racism is still alive and well in Cape Town, if you want good service you need to be white, no Apartheid laws needed. And what’s even worse, it’s people of color perpetrating it. Sick to my stomach, on a trip back home from the States and this is the kind of stuff I don’t miss about this country. Moyo has really gone down, not the kind of thing I expected from a place I used to be so fond of. Get educated management who know what they’re doing Moyo. Also, Apartheid is over, management and ownership need to catch up, this is 2024 not 1988. Today, you tarnished the spirit of Moyo for visitors. Moho has really really gone down, or maybe it’s just Kirstenbosch- due to the rude, incompetent uneducated management we encountered today.

You sit nicely in the garden. Food was ok, but rather mediocre in quality. Selection was fine.
Service was slow and quite inattentive. In the end you were asked to tip at least 10-15%, which unfortunately did not meet the service..
Overall, we would not recommend the restaurant. We are used to much better food and service from Cape Town.
