We used to go to the old casalinga- which was top notch, food was great and service wonderful Then we went again begnning of this year 2021 and yesterday .. I The beginning of the year dinner was not up to scratch, they still had...Christmas decorations that was around in January. The food was not at all the standard we are used to Yesterday we phoned and asked if Pizza was served - yes the reply. We took oupa and the kids..firstly cutlery on the table were not clean and some side plates had dirty food marks on them (this amidst COVID) Then drink - my kids wanted a shirley temple (grenadine and ginger ale) - I explained to the waiter —> the drink came, it was light pink tasted like strawberry syrup and soda water..sent it back...the reply from the barmen —> sorry we did not have what you ordered —> rather then inform the customer than send something terrible and untasty Pizza —> the first slice I dished for the kids had a piece of charcoal underneath it bigger than a 6 R5 coins stacked on top of each other..disgusting My husband’s pizza -> the same thing, bits of charcoal underneath the dough It is actually shocking that a restaurant with such a great history is serving such food. We complained and the waiter took off one of the pizza’s from the bill I think my visits to Casalinga is now over - sad but true as this is still a nice setting to go to! I think management need to think about what the future of Casalinga really is...More

I have been a customer of Casalinga for over 30 years. The last time the experience was positive was for my 60th Birthday - a couple of years back. We went pre Covid - and it was dismal. Today, we went as a family for...Mother’s Day - well - it was absolutely shocking to say the least! Upon arrival - our table was not ready - set up for 4 but booked for 8! Ordered drinks in the bar while waiting - had to get up and order ourselves - no service. Headed to our tables 30 minutes later. The poor waiter was run off his feet - had too many tables to service. We waited ages for our drinks - not his fault. Food order taken - starters - Arancini - seemed like it came out if a box from Pick’nPay - presentation abysmal - taste - well below par. Seafood bisque - arrived when everyone else had nearly finished their starters - a different waiter was running around trying to find who it belonged to - result - it was cold - and had to be eaten with a fork as the spoon arrived too late! Onto the mains - pork belly - ( second time ordered within last month - person thought they’d give it a try again - was inedible. Was not cooked correctly- huge layer of fat - quite revolting. Complained - a chap came and offered an extra dessert - really!! Asked for it to be taken off the bill- didn’t happen. Chicken thigh dish - consisted of bone - hardly any chicken at all - complained - nothing done. Onto the desserts - no where near the standard that they used to be. Verdict - the restaurant has NEVER been the same ever since Lloyd left - he had his finger on the pulse! It is quite evident that the only thing in the owners minds now is ‘quantity of people’ over quality of food and experience. Casalinga used to the ‘jewel in the crown’ of Country Restuarant’s - unfortunately no more! Paying nearly R5000 for a set menu which was well below is just not an option anymore. One expects to be spoiled and have an dining experience second to none- not on this or the last two occasions. I will never be returning to Casalinga - and would strongly suggest that if the owners no longer have the love for the business - rather close or rent the space to someone whose passion is food.More

It was our first experience at Casalinga where we booked for Valentine’s Day lunch. On arrival we were asked to wait in the bar area to be seated. We enquired about our table and the waitress ushered us outside to the garden area. The table...offered to us had to be cleaned and prepared however this took at least 10mins and still without any clean napkins or cutlery. We waited for at least 15mins with no service until we asked to speak to the manager. She arrived 10mins later and relocated us to a clean table with the promise is a waiter and menus. Unfortunately another 10 mins later and still no service whereupon we decided to leave as it was clear that 45mins since our arrival our request for service was completely ignored. Overall it was sadly for such a beautiful setting atrocious service. We will not be returning.More

Been going here for almost 18yrs years until resturant closed down. Found out it reopened so was very excited to go back. Did lunch today ith friends and what a disappointment. Pizza dough uncooked which was sent back. It came back burnt black. The fact...that They actually served us that was horrifying. Brought a new pizza which was uncooked again so we gave up. Service slow and very bad considering the place was empty. Place can do with a revamp including bathrooms. It looks very tired. Definitely not returning. Very sad cos this was an amazing place under the old management or owners.More

Ordered 2 traditional breakfasts. Waited a very long time despite asking various waiters and MaitreD. Soft poached eggs, when they eventually arrived, were more like hard fried. A long way to drive to be so badly disappointed and it wasn’t cheap. Worst breakfast experience in...the Cradle.More

We were invited to a birthday lunch. I left SA 19 years ago and have not been to Casalinga in a long time. It was like visiting an old friend! A special location, great food and friendly efficient service from arrival.

We made a special trip a 45 minute drive to celebrate my daughters 40th. The waiter Emmanuel was so nice and I felt so sorry for him as it was not his fault that the food was the worst I have ever experienced. The chips...were raw inside. The pizza was raw dough with melted cheese. The cannelloni was the smallest portion and burnt with charcoal on and same for the haloumi cheese burnt and black and full of charcoal. The salad was limp and the lettuce looked 3 days old. My daughter was so upset and her celebration was ruined. The manageress did not know what to say when we showed her the diabolical food . They did not sanitise our hands on arrival nor take our temperatures so we relied on the outdoors to protect us from Covid. We paid R50 for 2 by 300ml coldrinks and gave a tip to poor Emmanuel who probaly relies on tips. The credit card machine also did not work so I had to pay cash. Such a disappointment to say the least was so looking forward to making my daughters 40th special .Cannot believe that this food was not checked when leaving the kitchen and the audacity to serve it to us and expect to charge such high pricesMore

So disappointed in Casalinga- came to get Takeaways today barely anybody was wearing a mask including staff, no one sanitized their hands and social distancing was completely ignored everywhere. I won't be surprised if Casalinga becomes a major source of transmission for our community- absolutely...no protocol. What a disgrace. To top it off the pizza took over an hour and was undercooked and awful. Come now Casalinga, you can do better.More

Beautiful restaurant in the outback of Johannesburg. We were lucky by our friend who lives in Johannesburg and knows these places. The restaurant is in a lushes green area with stunning views. The staff is very service oriented. We had some bad luck that they’ve...mixed up with our starters and one of the Striploin wasn’t cooked according order. But they’ve solved it, but unfortunately we weren’t eating all together at the same time. A big minor was their espresso. No crema, not good roasted beans and not right storedMore
