The setting, views, facilities etc are on par with the best. Unfortunately this place is somewhat being let down by the indifference of some staff members. Surely a waiter in a five star establishment should know all prices? A maitre d‘ should point out if...a table is in the designated smoking area? Offering blankets to ALL female guests would be good, too - or at least bring one, when asked… Pricing is on par with 5 Star establishments. I little extra care could take this place from good to amazing! Come on, you’re almost there…More

Went with some friends for lunch to view the gorgeous Jacaranda trees in bloom from the terrace. The view as always is magnificent, but frankly the food was atrocious. After gulping at the prices which are exorbitant (the manager said they are in line with...other top restaurants like Marble and Saints) they may be, but the quality of the food definitely isn't anywhere near those restaurants and not even close to value for money. I ordered a bacon and cheese burger, firstly because it seemed to be the most reasonably priced and secondly because I'm allergic to garlic and this seemed to be the safest Although the menu does list garlic aioli with the burger, I figured that would be easy enough to leave off and I very specifically requested that it be omitted. What a disappointment! We have access to the best red meat in the world, and the mince in my burger was substandard and totally flavourless! To add insult to injury the aioli that was on the top and bottom of the bun in place of butter was garlic flavoured!! (fine because I didn't eat the bun after I had tasted it). The bacon must have been left over from breakfast and was so fatty it was inedible - and the cheese was one of those awful processed squares one gets in cheap takeaways. On the happy side, the service was generally very good, the waitresses and all the staff were very attentive and the G&T's were beautifully presented with pretty fruit floating according to the flavour of the gin we had chosen. well done to the bar staff. The view over Johannesburg has to be the most spectacular in the city, we even spotted an elephant in the zoo below. The hotel has such a prime location, it is so very beautiful, its a pity the restaurant lets it down.More

This is a review of breakfast only. I arranged breakfast for my husband’s birthday. The property is exquisite and the views are incredible. Service is top notch from the moment you arrive until you leave. I would like to mention Phina for being so attentive...and Tumi for being an amazing server. However attention should be paid to a few things to keep this a luxurious experience that people don’t mind paying for: the check in was not smooth, as staff didn’t know how many of us there were, when we had booked for etc. later on, I was offered my husband’s birthday macarons when I had indicated upon booking that it was his birthday we were celebrating. There was no syrup at the waffle station : how do you have a waffle station without syrup? There were no oysters, no cold meats/charcuterie. The toilets are also in need of a revamp. I have come here a few times before and I always leave thinking it’s amazing; not this time, however. I’d like to add that the plated options are really amazing and our selection of South African breakfast was out of this world. The pastry selection was also very good, as was the fruit. I’m not sure whether more effort is going into the brunch buffet offerings but the buffet aspect of the breakfast is underwhelming. We still had a wonderful morning out and the best view of Johannesburg.More

I had dinner on my own while watching a lightning show across the valley, which was quite magnificent! My waiter was engaging, and wine-savvy, his recommendation was spot on. The complimentary bread and dips were a delicious start to my experience. I order the vegan...butternut risotto which came with tasty crispy bits as well as tossed pinenuts. Every mouthful left me wanting more, and I was blown away by the texture, taste, and flavor. I wish I had space for a vegan dessert but sadly I didn't, however, I was happy to see there were vegan options. What an incredible experience from start to finish...I would highly recommend dining here, you won't be disappointed!More

Worst breakfast experience ever. Have been a regular visitor to what was an expensive outing for soecialbfriends and family occasions. At just under R2000 for 3 breakfasts, all 3 of us were completely underwhelmed. Moved from the terrace to an upstairs balcony. Gone from full...service to self service, via a dingy, dark wending of corridors to a self service. No place settings. Even after delivery of hot main, a guest had to steal a place setting from another table. Myvmain was tiny, unattractive and almost no smoked salmon. The bill was placed centre table, while guests were still eating main and I had not called for it. Quality ofxsecond coffees poor as we were being moved on. Won't be going again. EVERMore

When you are at an establishment like the Four Seasons, you do not expect to experience prejudice or mistreatment - and the host Nisada made us feel less than and requires hospitality training. We travelled from London and was our first time in Johannesburg, I...am a Four Seasons regular (and my wedding will be at the Four Seasons in Greece in May). We were blatantly lied to about table allocations and given poor seats despite booking weeks in advance and paying upfront, people who came after us were seated in the poor area but moved to better seating - less so about the seating but moreso the approach, we cried as we felt mistreated and asked to be refunded and leave. Musa and the senior manager stepped in and I am so impressed by their ability to ease the situation. Musa in particular should be your host and a manager, I've been to many Four Seasons and her service level is world class and her interpersonal skills are beyond her level, she is an outperformer and made us feel okay and her professionalism is beyond expectations. Nisada really almost ruined what was my bachelorette brunch and that is unforgivable, you need a better host. The host is the first point of contact and Nisada is not Four Seasons level. Musa is phenomenal - she is a natural leader and I walk away with a positive experience.More

Ok so at R525 p/p it is not cheap and you would not do it every day (actually you could not eat this much every day) but for a special occasion it is great. The buffet is excellent and has everything from fruit, yogurt (a...must try), cereal to cold meat, fish and cheese. The cooked breakfast is to order and is great, I opted for the South African breakfast that includes fillet, boerewors and bacon. Any style of coffee, juice and water all included in the price. The service was really world class and the view from the restaurant is really spectacular.More

We had the most amazing service at the Four Seasons Westcliff. The manager Ozgur has everything running impeccably. We arrived earlier than planned dueto trouble with our visas in another country, despite this unplanned arrival all was perfectly in order. The car service to and...from the airport was fantastic and easy. Bongs our driver was more than accommodating, he went out of his way to give us a tour and educate us on the city. Our arrival to the hotel was perfect the doormen were especially welcoming and fun to chat up as they delivered our luggage too. Our room was exquisite with gorgeous views. We ate at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast delicious and again due to our unplanned arrival we were late to the dining room and the chef still prepared an amazing meal. The concierge helped us with car service so that we could explore Johannesburg and was so attentive to our plans and helpful with suggestions. I can’t say enough about the staff at this hotel. We enjoyed each and every encounter we had with everyone and we can’t wait to come back.More

I haven't written a review in ages though I have been travelling and dining at top restaurants. This restaurant visit was so disappointing, I felt the need to share the experience. I returned after a very long time and I will not be rushing back!...Firstly let me say, the staff from parking, reception, restaurant - all are super friendly. Compliments all around but it stops there. The service in the restaurant was super slow from receiving drinks to getting starters and finally main course. The restaurant was not at full capacity and plenty of staff were around so it begs the question if the kitchen didn't cope or were our dishes sitting under the warmer until a waiter felt like serving? It took over 50 minutes to receive our starters and another forever for our mains to arrive. All our dishes (starters and mains) were barely luke-warm and to top it of nothing to write home about. For the prices charged I expect better quality food, much tastier food and definitely it to be served hot. I happily pay top prices for 5* food, service and drinks but I absolutely felt ripped off! From the prices charged of the dishes to drinks. Perhaps if the food would have been out of this world, combined with the view....it would have made up for the very overpriced bottle of wine. I know what the wine costs in the local bottle store and I know what mark up was applied! Shame on you!More

Our experience of the service at Flames was rather disappointing. We arrived on time and were seated by the maître d', and given menus. 15 minutes later we were still waiting for our waiter to come and introduce themselves, and take our wine order. We...eventually called a waiter who was milling around with evidently little to do, and he called our waiter over. This was our experience for the rest of the evening - we were ignored most of the time, and had to call our waiter over if we needed anything. We topped up our wine glasses ourselves, we had to call our waiter to get a dessert menu long after we finished our main meal, and again to place the dessert order. To be clear, this was not a busy night, and waiters were often just standing around - they were not extremely busy, they were simply inattentive. When we arrived we also mentioned to the maître d' that this was our 20th wedding anniversary, having spent our wedding night at the Westcliff. She was suitably delighted, but that's the last we heard of it for the evening - there was no mention from the waiter, and no attempt to make the evening special in any way. That was really disappointing. To add insult to injury, 20 minutes after we were sat down by the maître d' I received a call from her on my mobile reminding us that we had a reservation and asking if we were still planning on joining them. I had to point out that we were already sitting at the restaurant, to her great astonishment. The food itself was lovely, but not fantastic, considering the prices charged. We've had better cuisine at more affordable prices at other establishments. The location and view is of course unbeatable, which is why we booked there in the first place. So overall a disappointing evening, and I don't expect to be coming back anytime soon.More

One of the first at the restaurant, we were placed outside in the cold. Ordered a very expensive rib eye, medium rare. It was cooked medium. I would certainly expect a place of this stature and cost to be able to cook a steak properly....The worst, it was sent back and still charged to the bill until questioned.
