Only review i can give is STAY AWAY. The food was good but just not worth the terrible service. Managers just stand and watch the waiters trying to get things right but as hard as they try there is no direction. Had breakfast for 8...and took ¾hour to bring the food. Forgot 1 breakfast. 1st breakfast was finished before the next few people were given their food. Went there for milkshakes after the show and they ran out of icecream so the childrens icecream wasnt delivered. Long island didnt have alcohol in it. Embarrising as I had invited people for my birthday and felt responsible for the day out. Never again!!!!!!!More

We had a great time at one of the restaurant however if I was the owners I would be very careful as the waiters says the menu is new hence they can’t punch anything in the system . Imagine how much money the business can...loose in a day . We paid our bill with a handwritten bill .More

My wife and I recently went to the opening night of La Traviata and arrived early enough for a meal. We ordered drinks, which arrived promplty and a while later we ordered our meals. the food arrived within a reasonable time and we were surprised....While expecting mediocre meals, it was more than enough and brilliantly presented. Vegetables were well done but still crispy, while the meat couldn't be done better. I will recommend this anytime, but suggest avoiding rush times.More

A group of us stopped at Stages Restaurant for a quick coffee before going to watch the pantomime at Johannesburg Theatre. It wasn’t very pleasant: it was noisy; the order took a long time to arrive (no, it wasn’t lunch time ...); and the cheese...cake was rather tasteless. It’s such a pity that a restaurant affiliated to an excellent theatre doesn’t lift its standards simply because its patrons don’t regularly frequent the place - or so it seems. Next time I’ll rather pay an exorbitant price for a bottle of water.More

Dinner before the theater for 8 family members. I ordered fillet steak medium got fillet raw. The other food was average and the prices were high but still convenient to eat before the show. The rest of the service was good.

Stages is conveniently situated in the theatre complex Service is friendly but food is average. I had the chicken in mozarella crumbs with a side salad. It's quite a relaxed atmosphere so make sure you have sufficient time before shows

This restaurant is situated at the theatre and offers a good menu. It can get very bust before shows so best to make a reservation. Service can be relaxed so allow for that when you plan

My partner and I went to see a show at the Nelson Mandela Joburg Theatre and decided to arrive a little earlier to grab a bite to eat before the show. We were a little short of time, but the staff were on the ball...and recommended meals we could enjoy in time for the show. I ordered a chicken ceaser salad and my partner a chicken wrap. We both dont usually order chicken at restaurants but these meals were tasty and fresh. They were not shy with the chicken nor the avocados in the salad, and the wrap was deliciously fresh and juicy. We saw some of the burgers being served and were quite impressed with the size of the portions.More

I visit Joburg Theatre fairly often to preview shows but had not eaten at this restaurant before. Given most shows start at 20.00 it's a good idea to eat something beforehand so why not at the restaurant on site? After all, one can relax and...not worry about being late for a show. I persuaded my sister to accompany me for a pre-theatre dinner a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't overly busy and the waiter found a table for us easily. We decided to share a tapas platter for R350 and a bottle of house white for R80. Our first choice of tapas dish - the prawns - were unavailable, so we chose beef koftes, calamari, hake goujons and chorizo with potatoes. The size of the individual items was huge. We noticed that the chorizo was served plain without potatoes and without the usual spicy tomato sauce. Everything was overcooked and smothered in so much other stuff, the taste of the original ingredients - if they were any good - was completely lost. This is a crying shame because given this is a destination restaurant, they should aim to provide much better quality. I would advise eating elsewhere beforehand and maybe just a drink here.More

We arrived a good hour plus before the show King Kong - a must see by the way.! Ordered our meal and waited...and waited...and waited...saw some great dishes flying past...and waited. Then it arrived. Looked good, tasted good!. Then the bell rang...and rang... indigestion set...in...and rang... frustration set in... and rang again. Complained. The manager sent a CBC beer free (great by the way) to appease my disappointment. Great thought, but inappropriate. Pity, but I am prepared to give them another chance. Just please shake up the kitchen.More

This is our second time at Stages and this time was definitely better that a year ago. We wanted to have a relaxed dinner before going to watch the La Traviata ballet and Stages is just that. It is right inside the Nelson Mandela Theatre...so no need to rush as you have literally a minute or two then you are at your seat. The food was really good and the service great.More

We went to Stages before an evening show. We had seen other reviews that were mixed, but we were pleasantly surprised - we had a wrap and a burger and both were delicious.Staff (Bheki) were very friendly - great service. Be aware though that they...get very busy just before the show and food can be slow - we left a lot of time and this wasn't a problem, but we did get there more than an two hour before the rush as we weren't there for the main show.More
